Subconsultant: Hey, that's not the latest spec I sent you that you just uploaded.

Me: It's the last one you sent me.

SC: No, that's not the latest one. I sent it to you on March 21 at 1:24 PM.

Me: Yes, but you sent it again on 04/10/14 and that's the one I just uploaded and sent back to you. That would be the latest version. You sent me 2 versions on March 21, one at 1:24 PM and one at 2:26 PM.

SC: I don't have any record of that. What you used isn't the latest version.

THEN Y U SEND IT THEN?

Let's be honest, as much as we try to have an honest dialogue and non-passive aggressive communication with our colleagues, most people cannot handle the truth. You keep a level of professionalism so it doesn't become awkward for both parties. I have used the honest approach and it hasn't been as effective as I would like. I have an assertive tone, but on some occasion it has been misinterpreted as being mad at that person, and I don't get mad often. I can't win. If I am passive aggressive, nothing gets done and if I am honest and assertive, I'm seen as a bitch or angry.

some people just suck. there's no effective way of dealing with them, even if you have a dong.

AutoCAD randomly creating things and putting them in drawings...

today someone found some random points in a drawing that was messing up the border.

today I found a random pipe network in one of my files.

I grew some balls today. All I got was more excuses, detailed cover ups to save face. I did tell her that if she didn't do what needed to be done this week, I was going to the boss.

I've never encountered that in 6 years of using AutoCAD daily. I have seen lots of cases of someone copy / pasting from one drawing to another while zoomed in and not realizing they had additional content outside the current view that they were pasting into the drawing.

^Ive had AutoCAD reloaded on my comp twice and it still will randomly select "Delete" instead of "Move" when I right-click on my selected items to move them (even though my mouse is directly over it and I'm not a spazz). It's completely random but IT thought I was fucking with them until they watched me for a few minutes. They have no idea how to fix it, something about a corrupt file association link.

No, because that book is not about leveling the field. Lean in is about how to best play by old white men's rules, which doesn't address pervasive institutional sexism as a significant problem for upward mobility.

Having all these corporate managers, store managers, loss prevention managers, and associates in for several weeks to basically rearrange our store because the C.O.O of our company is coming by on Wednesday. FML

And not to mention, my former EVIL and racist store manager was also present. Thought I didn't have to deal with her ass anymore. Ughhhhh.

CEO talked to us today about work life balance and how "it doesn't exist in San Francisco because they know what it takes to make it big" and how we need to emulate that here. Your work is your life, if you put everything into it, we'll all get a "cut of the payday."

^^^I put up with that for a while too. Then I started referring to all company documents as "propaganda," and challenging anyone who disagreed to prove me wrong.

Propaganda: A form of communication aimed towards influencing the attitude of a population toward some cause or position.

Most people believe the word to need be malicious or deceptive, but that is not the case.

He's 100% right If you make your work your life, you'll make him richer, and you'll get a cut too.

Of course, you'll be miserable, alone, and won't have the chance to actually enjoy your money. But hey, WORK WORK WORK PROFIT PROFIT PROFIT!

Ask your boss what good is money if you don't have time to spend it on the people or things you love?

There's the old adage that no one lays in their deathbed wishing they had spent more time working.

getting a call from draftsman @ sister company that the PE he's been working with will be calling me to ask about a design I advised on (small, basic structural steel design...methinks no biggie....)

he forwards the email conversation with said drawing, and included is another drawing for a separate structure that he's pinned the design on me as well, that I had nothing to do with.

man or woman, if they can show me they KNOW THEIR SHIT, I will respect them. I don't work around too many women, but from my first-hand experience, maybe 1 out of 10 have satisfied this criteria versus maybe 3 out of 10 for guys.

6 weeks ago- i'm still awaiting approval for my change request for additional scope that has been added, we are running the risk of having a demobilization and stopping the project

5 weeks ago- i'm still awaiting approval for my change request for additional scope that has been added, we are running the risk of having a demobilization and stopping the project

repeat until last week with in person visits, phone calls, and meetings letting them know that we are almost out of money and the project can't absorb these additional changes without additional funding.

today I get an email with "I need more than 2 weeks to approve a change request. I will not pay for demob/mob, it is your responsibility to alert me with appropriate notice"

i don't even care at this point if i eat mobilization costs out of contingency, but wtf?

haha, the last two confessions speak to me all too well

Additionally, we keep getting pushed more and more on schedule and they get frustrated at us that we can't move mountains in 1 week instead of the 3 weeks we allotted and they approved on the schedule. Yet, when we need their support in getting information required to complete these expedited tasks I get crickets in terms of reply emails or returned calls. And then they still want to know why we didn't complete the task on time...

Staff gets email "Chick-fil-a has provided cookies and lemonade in the workroom for teacher appreciation week during 3rd period!"

sweet. 3rd period is split up into thirds and everyone either has first, second, or 3rd lunch, with class during the other 2/3rds.

announcement comes over the intercom at the beginning of 3rd period "cookies will be available for 15 minutes in the teacher workroom"

so only people with first lunch get cookies. I have second lunch
