Haha, here is another pic with Ryan Harrow and Lorenzo Brown. Harrow is the bottom left and Lorenzo is the back directly in the middle.

Phil Taylor a PG we evaluated is #3. He plays for Wheeler HS (Hickson and Howell's HS). He's not bad for his size (5'9"), but we've got Harrow. He's getting a fair amount of interest. I think it's likely that he'll end up at a lower tier BCS school, or at least a strong mid-major program.

We've all had this discussion before. There is no BCS in college basketball, but really there are only three ways to refer to these schools. Either call them the BCS schools since they are from the BCS conferences, call them schools from the big 6 conferences, or call them schools from the power conferences. Everyone knows what schools are BCS conference schools so there is really no confusion, but I'll call them power conference schools from now on.

I think it should be "Major Major" "Mid-Major" "Minor Major" "Major Minor" "Mid-Minor" "Minor Minor." Should cover it.

See the problem with the term "high-major" is that some of the power conference teams recruit as good or worse than some of the mid-major programs.

See the problem with the term "high-major" is that some of the non-power conference teams recruit as well or better than some of the high-major programs.

(What you were saying in better English)

This is true in football as well, to a lesser degree...ECU has consistently gotten better players than Duke, and I'm sure there are several other instances like that across the country.

it DOES get the point across and that's why it's perfectly acceptable, not everyone knows what "high major" and "mid major" mean but pretty much everyone knows what the BCS conferences are. It's not like college basketball exists in a vacuum, and the conferences are the fucking same in basketball as they are in football (except for the Big Least of course).

Just so we know what the hell you are talking about, when you talk about BCS schools do you include Marquette, Georgetown, and Villanova?

Is it really any harder to say power conferences? The only reason anyone uses the BCS conference term in reference to college basketball is a) the sports media has chosen to bring the term over into college basketball to keep it in the spotlight, because we all know they are jonesing for a playoff system; and/or b) they don't know any better.

I'm convinced the misuse of the term is calculated and intentional on the part of many in the sports media, however there are many casual fans who just don't understand the difference.

I vote for saying "power conferences." The BCS sucks enough in football. Please do not insult basketball by using that term.

It makes lots of sense. Other than the Big East, the conferences don't change. The BCS conferences are still the power conferences in basketball -- why use different names for the same thing?

Before the big shakee up, Conference USA used to be on par with some of the BCS conferences in terms of basketball prowess

Cincinatti, Charlotte, Louisville, Memphis, Marquette...they had some legit powers and were better than the Big 12 and SEC for several years in the late 90's and early 2000's

I have no idea where that post came from, but CUSA has always been incredibly top-heavy. Two or three top 25 teams doesn't compensate for Houston, Tulane, DePaul, UAB, etc. I don't think there's been a season in the last decade where I'd put the conference as a whole above any BCS (yes) conference.

and Baylor, Kansas State and Texas A&M were equally horrendous

The conference had Kansas at the top, with Texas and Missouri flirting with the polls for stretches

Conference USA annually had teams with top 5 seeds and pipelines to the NBA

Every conference has dregs, look at the Big East this year

The pre-expansion ACC with 9 solid teams was the exception, not the rule

I never said the BCS conferences didn't have bad teams, CUSA just has (and had) a lot more bad teams. CUSA has always had one or two really good teams and lots and lots of bad teams for that were destroyed by Memphis or Louisville or whoever.

Quote :

Yeah, they had a top five seed every year, but that doesn't say anything about the other 10 or 12 teams in the conference (hint: they all sucked). Again, they were top-heavy.

I don't know what CUSA you remember, but they were always the sixth or seventh best conference in the country.

There's 6 BCS conferences

So if there only 5th or 6th best, which I'm claiming they were for a while, then they displaced 2 BCS conferences in the "Best Conference" rankings for a year or two here or there

I'm not saying they were the top conference in the land, just good enough to disrupt the traditional 6 Power Conference pecking order

They were the only conference of the non-BCS variety who could ever make that claim

After all, you got UNC fans claiming that they deserve the ACC title since they swept duke.

Just wanted to throw a new name out there....Quincy Miller.

Many of you may already have heard of Miller (a 3 star prospect), but we have watched him 3 times now and he's getting better and better. He's 6'9, is extremely athletic, has great handles, and can drain the 3. Oh, and he's only 15 years old. Right now he's classified in the 2011 class, but we've heard whispers that he could reclassify to join the 2012 class. In my opinion, he's already better than most 2010 bigs. He's CJ Leslie Lite. He's got the same type game, while he's a little less athletic, he has a better shot, and true leadership abilities. He was my favorite talent at Pangos and should be blowing up very soon.

We just put up a video interview with him at the website if you want to check it out.

The last really comparable non-power 6 conference to the big boys was the Metro.

In the late 70's it included

Cincinnati
Ga Tech
Louisville
Memphis State
St. Louis
Tulane
FSU
Va Tech
South Carolina*

* after Ga Tech left for the ACC
