you can get away with using explicitly but try substituting its synonyms in there and see if it sound strange

"I went to the store openly to get .."
"I went to the store unambiguously to get..."
"I went to the store precisely to get..."

specifically is just used more in everyday language, so it sounds more correct. Thats all

i went to target yesterday and got distracted by clothes and other shit i didn't need and forgot to buy 2 things i needed. whoops
