I am now firmly on the fire Gottfried bandwagon. Consistently outcoached by coaches with less experience, horrible on the road, can only beat good teams on their bad days, lack of player development (any kind of interior presence inside, believe it or not players are supposed to improve shooting FT's in their collegiate career, inability to develop a pg).

Bring on Archie, hodge assistant coach....it would be a great transition year considering we havent done dick recruiting-wise

Still credible but this is really looking like a lost season. I am starting to get worried about our ability to develop big men. Cj Leslie seemed to regress, and all three of our sophomore big men haven't developed much. I guess Howell would be the one good case, but it is becoming obvious that JJ Hickson isn't walking through that door anytime soon.

His inability to develop players is frustrating as fuck:

- they stand around while we run the same three point double screen play every possession

- any team who wants to put in the effort could pick off our passes every possession because we are a lazy

- our guys are more interested in tipping the ball instead of rebounding with two hands

- on that same note, they never box anyone out

- everyone knows exactly what our stupid high post offense is going to do, and they defend it accordingly

- Our whole team is still taking stupid long range 2 point jump shots 10 seconds into the shot clock

- every fucking game Washington/Lee/Turner are good for two or three of those retarded over the back defensive pass poke attempts

- Our players routinely slash to the basket, get right underneath it, then pass the ball and extra two or three times because they don't want ot be the guy taking the shot

- Our team should be called butterfingers state, because we fumble, have balls swatted out of our hands, and lose track of the ball entirely too often.


This shit is bball 101. Players should not be able to get away with being bad at these things.

We damn near have 10 top 100 talent players and we are 62 in RPI and 56 in KenPom.

He's done a terrible job this year. We are stuck with him though for at least another year or two.

Why do you claim this? We have a deep rooster of bigs, but none of them are good enough to make 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd team all ACC. In matter of fact, Lacey may be the only player on our rooster that makes the list, maybe Turner if he finish the season strong. This season isn't over yet so i'll reserve my judgement until I see the complete picture.

of the offenses higher than ours on kenpom here are the teams i would say clearly have more talented guards/wings (where most of the offense comes from in college):

duke
indiana
kentucky
ohio state

roughly equal:
nd
arizona
kansas i guess? i doubt gott would do better with these guys since the talent is all young/inconsistent

We have a good group of guards and wings but that needs to be balanced with good big men which we have none of. That along defense is an issue that Gott needs to get sorted out, but i'm not convinced we have top 10 talent and no im not going to name a list of 10 teams. Barber/Caleb/Cody are still raw, Barber is peaking while it seems the twins hit the freshman wall. Turner is a sharpshooter, but he's pretty much a 1 trick pony and has been prone to defensive lapses. Lacey is the only true stud we had throughout the season and is a versatile scorer/distributor.

All those guys you mentioned outside Lacey are just fr and so and therefore is not a fair indicator as of yet. Duke constantly has top recruits and now 1 and dones but they have been getting bounced early in the NCAA tournament in recent years. Sometimes experience is the best teacher. Also, recruiting is still part of coaching and there's no guarantee that a new coach will do anywhere as good.

Development has been slower than expected but it's too early to run him out of town. I think next season will be time for the hot seat if we still suck which I doubt.

cat's problem wasnt talent it was play style. kelly oubre was a terrible player for half the season too

my point was no one has a bunch of lottery picks in the back court. "basically just a deep threat" i mean how many teams do you think have two guys shooting 39%+ from 3 on over 100 shots. and most of those arent wide open shots either. yeah dude has flaws but roy williams has a better offense than us with jp tokoto playing the 2 and nate britt playing 20mpg.
