some heavy ass rain around Charlotte for the past hour or so. Looks like more on the way. Southwest Georgia has got to be getting >1.0 inch per hour rain at the moment. That shit looks so heavy down there.

Apparently the Pensacola, FL airport reported getting over 5 inches of rain in a 45 minute span last night and are over 11 inches of rain from this storm already. Holy hell

I'm in Carrboro, so it went east of us. Just watched WRAL to see where the rotation was. East Durham was right in the crosshairs though. So far I have not heard of any damage.

They haven't been able to confirm it touched down. The rotation and wind speed was there, but it may have not materialized.

20"+ of rain in areas of Pensacola. We will see if storms set up as a line or supercells today around here. I would imagine areas from Wilson to Fayetteville picked up a ton of rain yesterday as that line just kept training the same areas.

No rain to epic downpour off blue ridge!

5^ May I recommend the WR300?

https://midlandusa.com/weather-radios/product/wr-300/

I have one and love it; great for your basic to moderate monitoring needs. Only complaint is that the big button in the middle cuts the alarm buzzer off... not snooze (that's to the left). So you definitely need another alarm if you're a snoozer

Pretty sure I got mine on sale/online elsewhere for about $50.

can you set that to only go off for a tornado warning? i don't feel the need to be woken up for anything else.

^you can set each type of alert however you want. I have audible for severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings; all other watches/warnings are text only.

It is a SAME radio, so you can set multiple counties. I think mine is currently set for Wake & Johnston.

If you have an iPhone, won't it do that for you? There's a "governmental alert" section, and I have it set to go off for tornado warnings, but not Amber Alerts, because I am a terrible person.

I have an android, but I have governmental alerts enabled, but received no Tornado warning

[Edited on April 30, 2014 at 9:09 AM. Reason : it was on do not disturb, so maybe that silenced the alerts]

My phone is the same way. Though, I think it somehow has more resolution than weather radios, e.g. alerts a much smaller geographical area than an entire county.

And I'd rather not rely on my cell phone to be the primary alert system in my home. Too many variables there.

I should add the disclaimer that I had a notification for the WRAL Weather Alert app, so that may have gone off, but I definitely didn't hear it or it wasn't loud enough to wake me up.

The govt ones go off no matter what even in sleep mode.

But the tornado warning wasn't for our location if you were in Cary or Raleigh even though some of extreme nothern Wake was in it...

^ok, thanks, I figured that was the case.

The cell phone alert is nice, and convenient, but as I said above, I don't think I'd want that to be my primary weather alert. Phones are lost, broken, forgotten, and batteries die, and with more frequency than a weather radio. There's been numerous occasions when the cord got unplugged and my phone died overnight. And the alert tone isn't all that loud. The weather radio alert is very loud, has battery backup and sits in one place. It generally doesn't have signal issues and if there are, it's generally on the transmission side and this area has multiple backups. After the alert tone, the radio then provides audible speech for the alert, which is a great feature that I can hear from multiple rooms. The alerts are also always on time; I've had issues with alerts on my phone being delayed.

I'll second all of this. Great radio, but don't pay $100 for it.

SPC has cut back on the tornado probabilities as it looks like primarily junk storms using up the juice.
