Just added a Magpul MOE hand guard and AFG2 to my AR15, pretty pleased with the result:



Also if anyone is into Ruger 10/22's, you have got to get one of the new Ruger 25 round magazines. I tried one this weekend and was able to fire the whole 25 rounds as fast as possible with no jams or bad feeds, tried it four times. WAY better than the aftermarket 25/30 round magazines!

^^Its a decent piece of land. There are several 800+ yard shots if you want to set up for long distance. I usually stay around the 150 - 300 yard range.

I am biased against the 380, I don't really see a reason to ever use that round when a 9mm is available. Look into the Kahr CM9 or PM9 instead. That is if you just want something small enough to fit in your pocket, if you have only one pistol I would recommend either a compact glock or xd.

small size is a factor that im looking for and i like the price point of the s&w. its also not going to be my only gun. i will also end up buying something more substantial for home protection and another handgun for my wife.

^^ Yeah that is the only thing they really have going for them. My Kahr PM9 isn't really that much bigger than my Dad's Ruger LCP. We can pocket carry both of them and I prefer the way the Kahr feels in my hand and shoots.

Not trying to say they are worthless or anything, they definitely have their place, just not my thing.

very true. I thought the LC9 felt huge (probably because I'm used to the LCP).

In the end, it comes down to person preference/ability. Sure, the 9mm has more power, but I can't think of a case where .380 wouldn't work and 9mm would (I mean, someone on PCP isn't going to feel the difference between these two rounds; isn't there a video of some guy getting pelted with a .40 or .45 and isn't phased?). The only downside(s) I see to .380 are ammunition availability (but has been fine for a while now) and ammunition price (I assume it's still high; haven't bought in a while ).

there is also a pretty sizeable weight difference.

For Wake County I know that you have to apply for pistol purchase permits in person. Do you have to pick them up in person or are they mailed to you? They're good for 2 years, correct?

hmmm- I hadn't actually thought about that. Whenever I was getting my permits (pistol and then CC), I was working part time and in school, so finding time to make it downtown wasn't a problem. I was told I had to come pick them up too, but I feel like they should offer some sort of mailing option, given that the address on your ID and everything is supposed to match up to the forms they give you. Kind of shitty if they don't let you do that.

I'm looking to do the trigger relocation on a Saiga 7.62x39. Carolina Shooters Supply seems to have nice kits that include everything that you need. Does anyone know if there are better kits of equivalent kits for a better price?

I also wanted to get opinions on adding the bullet guide and filing the mag. release to modify the gun to accept standard AK mags. Saiga mags don't seem to be very hard to find. Are AK mags cheaper and, if so, cheap enough to justify the conversion? I already have 4 10-round mags and I'm looking to pick up some 30-round mags. Other than making the gun closer to an actual AK, I don't really see the justification to that modification.

^ the trigger will be A LOT better after the conversion. you can still use the 10rders after the conversion and just wait to grind down the mag release. I ground mine down and and my factory mags still function fine.

the largest thing is the conversion allows you to use the pistol grip which is much more comfortable. if you just stick a t6 fusion stock on it and use the pistol grip with out moving the trigger you ARE NOT in 922R compliance ( to my understanding - by adding the pistol grip you have made an assault weapon. you can make an assault weapon but it has to use no more than X amount of foreign parts)

i used a tapco g2 trigger/hammer/spring didn't cost that much can't remember how much. conversion was easily done on a lazy afternoon.

i have used bicycle inner tube. wash it out stretch it over the grip and trim to fit with a razor. it is slightly sticky/tacky but doesn't leave a sticky residue on your hand or any thing

I'm pretty sure that I understand all the steps of the conversion and all the aspects of 922r compliance. It was my understanding that adding the bullet guide means that you have to file off material on the front of the Saiga mags if you still want to use them.

On a related topic, my Saiga doesn't have the square hole for the square nut needed to attached pistol grips. The trigger guard from Carolina Shooters Supply has that integrated into the trigger guard so that you don't need to cut the square hole in the receiver. I don't know if another vendor offers that.

i'd have to look at what exactly you are talking about file with regards to using with a standard mag.

on having the square the square hole for pistol grip nut, there is a plate on the bottom of the siagas. once i took that plate of, i had the hole for the trigger and the hole for the pistol grip nut in the proper positions. if i remember correctly, the trigger in the stock siaga configuration uses the pistol grip nut hole. i may be wrong, like i said going off of memory.

Not all the Saigas have the square nut hole. It's supposed to be uncommon for the 7.62x39 versions to have it. Mine doesn't have it unless it's very well concealed under the wishbone piece that's part of the trigger group.

i doubt you'll need to glass bed it. try it before you bed it and if you're not happy with the accuracy, then bed it. probably won't notice the difference on that gun.

Saiga stuff:

The square pistol grip lug hole will probably not be visible unless you've totally stripped the innards or removed the plate on the bottom. The stock trigger uses a slot that is located directly behind the PG lug. If you don't have the square hole there, making one with a Dremel is trivial.

The bullet guide mod requires removing material from either the catch or the magazines. The Saiga mags use a small tab and AK mags use a larger tab, so you have to file a little material off of the catch to get AK mags to lock in, or file down the AK mag tab. The end result is either a rifle that has loose factory mag fitment or AK mags that have loose fitment in AK rifles. I modified my mag catch, not my mags, and the factory mags still work fine, albeit a touch wobbly when empty. I didn't have to file anything off of my factory mags to make them fit with the guide, so idk about that part.

The CSS kit is a decent deal, but you can get everything minus the trigger guard for about $85. Reusing your existing trigger guard is not hard at all, and it can simply be riveted back in place once you're done. Lots of ways to go about it, some cheaper, some easier.
