i don't understand how you can mock someone for not being satisfied w/ this season. preseason #6, coming off of a t-4 acc finish, sweet sixteen, returning as much as can reasonably be expected for a college team and adding a top recruiting class... and we finish 5th in the league.

how can you call that good?

the first three statements are facts, and the fourth is about as fact as recruiting can be. we're on pace to do worse than last season, which is disappointing when you return so much no matter how you slice it. it just is. ask the team, they'll tell you if they're being honest. lorenzo brown was talking about winning a national championship this year at the start of the season. so don't tell me i'm wrong to be disappointed with a 5th place finish.

v what am i doing that's face-like? i'm not pointing out that i'm right and i'm not posting kenpom. unless pointing out that a disappointing season is disappointing, which i don't know how that's even a question that this point.

But the thing about college bball is that none of that shit matters if they go on a good run in the tourney. Just look at last year. A season full of shit followed by a Sweet 16 gave us a preseason #6 ranking,

These people saying we would beat gonzaga just because of the name on their jersey are crazy. We don't even match up well with them. We match up much better against kansas. Olynyk would foul howell out and drop 30. Harris would drop 15 just from outworking CJ on the boards. Last year we could put CJ on a perimeter scorer and at least rely on that defense. This year we have no defense.

We'd be better off playing indiana than Gonzaga. We don't want any parts of Kansas either.

It's way better than what most of us have gotten used to. I haven't been this excited about an upcoming tournament since Hodge graduated.

Being unsatisfied is one thing, I get that. We all wish it could have gone better and yes it should have gone better. But some people (more than just face) are making it out to be a complete failure of a season and that is just ridiculous.

Zeller is not as good of a college player as olynyk. Zellers not going to hit 3s. Zellers only slightly better than plum city. Zeller and Watford gave us hell last time but we have the advantage of having played them before.

That isn't a real try at projecting a bracket. It's just listing the teams in order of their BPI (ESPN's take on RPI) and then giving out the seeds in order (top 4 BPI given 1 seeds, next 4 given 2 seeds & so on)

That's as much of a bracket projection as if Pomeroy listed out his seeds in order of their kenpom rankings

I think people start getting defensive at people calling the season a failure or calling Gott a shitty coach. It's that type of over-the-top reactionary shit that gives our fanbase a bad reputation.

That said, I hear you and don't really disagree. The regular season was definitely below expectations. Literally a half-dozen fewer failed instances of execution is the difference between our 5th place finish and first place. we'd be 26-5/15-3 if we boxed out alex len at maryland, if Scott wood hits a wide open 3 at WFU (after he rebounded CJ's 2nd missed free throw), if we managed more than 0 field goals in the final 4:22 at UVA, and boxed out the fat post player for Miami whose name I can't remember right now.

That's like 4-6 plays that would have changed the outcome of 4 games. Yes, you might argue that none of those games should have come down to the final seconds. But if we won those games, would we even be having this discussion now as the #1 seed?

I agree with what BD is saying. We had a few games that we won by the skin of our teeth too like Clemson, VT, and BC, but really we got shitted on hard in a lot of close games in epic shit fashion (two tip in losses in one season - wtf?).

Sucks that our talent did not translate to wins this year. Last year we only started playing well when our backs were against the wall (i.e. no tourney without deep ACC run). Maybe this year we will adopt that same mantra and make some noise this week and do the same in the NCAAT.

CJL please stay focused and don't let one or two plays knock you out of a game completely. Also please stay out of foul trouble Rich and CJ.

Are you insinuating our post defense is as good as USD? Our interior defense is awful and if it was good we'd screw ourselves with foul trouble. USD is an above average interior defense.

Its more Gonzaga would love to play us than we don't want to play Gonzaga. The zags would not come in cocky to a game against us and we'd get a better chance of that with Indiana. Those teams are pretty close but Gonzaga has a far superior coach.
