Went to Oak Ridge in VA this past weekend, had a lot of fun although we did have to play by the rules, which meant following guys in Jeeps. But it was cool. Didnt have to pull any line and only took out a couple lenses and the front diff guard. Did some low range dig racing, 4.75 gear FTW!

Marcs all set up now with front and rear air lockers. Power steering is next.
They had a raffle Sat night, I had brought some spare parts with me at the last minute and ended up selling a buncha stuff and making pretty good money. Bought 80 tickets and ended up winning a brand new superwinch. Not a bad deal considering I had $0 invested in the parts I sold. 10/7/2008 8:36:15 PM |

Ive put 30k on mine in 2 years, Ive had to fix a tcase shifter I broke a bushing in while offroading and had to replace a front main seal that started leaking more than the allowable limit. Anything else I have done was voluntary- tune up, etc. 10/14/2008 7:04:08 PM |

^^^my gf's 02 dII has been regularly neglected and has been dead reliable until recently. even now, it still runs/drives fine it just has some idiot lights on for an abs related issue and it could desperately use some general maintenance here and there. all she's done in 75k miles is change the oil a few times. i suspect it's on borrowed time for one of the major land rover failures like a valve job or something, but knock on wood it's still going strong.
obviously joel is going to have the best educated opinion around here, but to me rovers aren't quite as bad as they're made out to be. they're certainly no toyota, but they're fairly solid. they seem to be a little more hit or miss than some brands, meaning you either get a really good one or you get a really bad one. there's also the issue of when they do break, it's generally expensive. that's not really out of line with any other luxury marque though. bad resale can be a concern. could be a negative or positive depending on your situation and plans for the vehicle. unlike most newer vehicles, they still have some character too. some of the quirky functions, styling, mechanicals, etc. make them unique. the owners are the only real downer to owning one in my opinion. 8 out of 10 are douchebag, elitist, ignorant assholes. 10/15/2008 12:01:33 AM |

What would the symptoms of a bad oxygen sensor be? 10/23/2008 12:31:24 AM |

Thats a short question with a long long answer. Have they ever been changed? Have you ever ran anything other than premium gas? What MPG are you getting? 10/23/2008 12:54:07 AM |
Str8BacardiL ************ 41753 Posts user info edit post |
Let me the issues I am having.
1) Occasional idle sputter, only when idling and usually when cool, no misfires or noticeable loss of power when driving. On rare occasions a brief hesitation when first accelerating but only if it was sputtering a little while stopped.
2) CEL comes on occasionally, will run for quite a while without coming back after reset (weeks) but comes back on eventually.
3) Sputter has never caused engine to cut off, the RPM just drops down lower than usual it sputters a little, and then it picks up to normal idle RPM and runs fine. This is usually while slowing down or just after starting the engine.
The o2 sensors have not been changed for at least the last 45k miles, I have run cheap gas, the MPG is not any worse than usual. ] 10/23/2008 1:01:34 AM |

^^ Cant say I like the color, but the LR3 is shaping up to be a decent truck. Hopefully the sharp depreciation curve they are on will level out a little bit. You didnt pay more than $17k for that did you?
Here is my new truck, just about how I got it, minus some decals and the like. Already removed the little Hellas and have big plans to rework the suspension, etc. Currently has a 3in lift, 4.11 gears, and has been fully converted to a ROW spec Land Rover 300Tdi. Truck did surprisingly well for a Disco still having sway bars installed this weekend at Uwharrie, and even got 20.5 MPG on the way home.

yeah, that diesel is too cool. i love how it sounds like a little tractor, lol. that yellow is pretty loud at first, but it really grew on me by the end of the weekend. the hood blackout, wheels, and other accessories help to break it up a lot. definitely paint that snorkel though.
i was impressed with how well it did on the trails also. goes to show what a difference the smooth/broad powerband of a diesel can make vs. a gas motor. get it locked up with a little more track width and it'll really get it.

I dont like those much. The narrow track width of the truck currently, and the pizza cutter tires make it nice and easy getting into gaps between rocks and shit on the trail but the truck looks stupid as hell. NATOs or stock steelies wouldnt help. 11/19/2008 7:28:36 PM |

just noticed this, interesting. i was under the impression that the lr3 was only available with the ford v6. i thought i remembered reading somewhere after it first came out that it wouldn't get a v8 because they wanted to make sure that it wouldn't compete with and impact sales of the range rover sport? guess not. so, what's it have? jag 4.4 i assume? i was also thinking that the range rover sport only has the v8. or, is that wrong also and it's available with the v6?
so confusing keeping track of all of lr's bastard vehicles. when it's time to build a new vehicle, they just go plunder through the parts bin of whatever company happens to own them that day.
Quote : | "so is it a landrover or bmw the cheapest way to spend nothing and look like you were wealthy 5 years ago?" |
how about the best of both? the range rover got the bmw 4.4 v8 for a short time. i want to say like 02-04 or something? joel?
Quote : | "saw a Defender 110 on base here the other day." |
i love those. one of the few lr's i would actually be tempted to spend a decent amount of money on to own.
Quote : | "it might look cool from some angles, but most of the time its just plain retarded. and without some offset the turning radius blows." |
yeah, looking straight on from the front or rear does look funny. what about just some 2-3" bolt on aluminum wheel adapters? that would give you the track width/stance you're after for function, yet still leave the cool/classic look of the current setup.
since we're on the subject of imported stuff, what's the deal with 2 door ranges and discos? did any ever make it here? if so, how hard are they to get through the grey market process? is it even possible to put them on the road short of something shady like a vin swap or something?11/20/2008 12:52:08 AM |

I agree, although it has grown on me a little since we got it... Seems to hide dirt pretty well. Only thing I wish it had is xenons.
We did pay more for it than that, but not by much. It is cert. preowned w/ warranty to 75k, so I guess that is worth something... (@29k mi now). Wife is happy, so I'm happy- I get to continue driving my old junk. 11/22/2008 4:06:57 PM |
