b/c the interior on evo mr's (well all of them but the mr is the only 'good one') notably and acknowledged as sucking, as in, more so than my dads old '86 mazda pos with 200k miles on it.

damn...i've got 39,000+ on mine have yet to have a single problem (knock on wood). Regular oil changes. Changed the gear oil and diff's once already. Thats about it as far as maintenance...oh and brakes/tires of course.
Quote : | "whats this this talk about evo quality? mitus in general maybe, but specific to this model whats the problem??? my understanding is that 4g63 is a very reliable engine. anything that could possibly go wrong on that engine has already been addressed. damn thing has been in production for over 10 years." |
I said mitsubishi sucks for quality which they do. Except for Evo's... hence why the only Mitsubishi i'd ever buy is an Evo.

oepii, that gray 5-door isn't a concept version extending from the existing Evo, it's the 2005 "Concept-Sportback" from the 2005 Frankfurt auto show before the "Concept X" and the "prototype X" that preceded the Evo X production model.
http://www.edmunds.com/news/autoshow/articles/107049/page016.html http://www.gizmag.com/go/4254/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDDrkyDYjJs<---nice 2 min video I never saw until today http://www.carbodydesign.com/concept-cars/2005-08-19-mitsubishi-sportback/2005-08-19-mitsubishi-sportback.php (it's a small gallery, but you've gotta scroll down..)
The sketches of the Lancer Concept -S hatch look pretty production-focused though, and the concept's drivetrain specs suggest that it'll be a hatch version of the lancer ralliart, despite the aggressive Evo-theme. Sounds good to me. Lighter than an Evo X and less expectation that "its the hot one".... with all the likely tuneability... The production version of that model might be the pick of the lineup, even better if its cheaper than the lancer ralliart.

dude thats not a worn down clutch.
thats someone who installed that shizzle wrong.
you cant blame mitsu (parts) for premature wear.
there is plenty of meat left on that clutch. (compared to when i had to change mine) 2/14/2008 11:23:38 PM |
theDuke866 All American 52839 Posts user info edit post |
then it's still Mitsu's fault, because that was the factory clutch. 2/14/2008 11:56:08 PM |

Photoshopped my evo, discuss. It reminds me of a Yugo.
on a side note, the mitsubishi dealer on capital blvd. has two evo X'es in. A red one and a graphite grey one, both look very nice imho. I was told they aren't allowing test drives without a credit check first... deuchebags. 2/23/2008 11:52:43 PM |
theDuke866 All American 52839 Posts user info edit post |
i wish they had built something like that...a small 2-door, 2+2 hatch would be even better (like VW Golf sized), with the Evo IX drivetrain and suspension.
and yeah, some places are bitches about test drives. the Subaru dealer in Pensacola wouldn't allow an STi test drive until I cranked up my 330ci and started typing the Mobile, AL dealer's address into my GPS.
then they tried a bunch of hardball sales tactics and I told them to fuck themselves, and that their car was inferior to the Evo to boot.
also, to reiterate, the Evo X sucks. 2/24/2008 12:06:53 AM |

You are right, my bad.
But, HERE is the production Lancer hatch:
Mitsubishi Lancer Prototype-S Hot Hatch Images Leaked
Quote : | "Oh Geneva my love, will you ever stop? Look at how Mitsubishi will make history on your turf in just a couple of weeks. Seems that hatchback Lancer, last seen in Prototype-S form, will be revealed as a staple for Geneva consumption. We have the first official internet-leaked images of what’s to come, and boy Subaru Impreza had better take note.
Likely to be referred to as a Sportback, the Lancer goes into market with a 180kW/ 241 bhp and 343Nm 2.0-litre engine, same as the Evo X’s but weakened to rival the likes of Focus ST, Mazda3 MPS and Astra OPC. The more direct rival of course is the Impreza WRX.
The combination of its 4WD system, as well as the SST twin clutch gearbox should make this a dragster of note in this class of car." |
I love it... my only gripe is how the rear end extends a bit too much.
For comparison, compare the rear end (in side profile) of the production model below, and rear end on the concept from 2 years ago:
Concept:
http://www.carbodydesign.com/concept-cars/2005-08-19-mitsubishi-sportback/2005-08-19-mitsubishi-sportback.php
Production:
http://images.worldcarfans.com/articles/2008/2/24/9080224.002/9080224.002.Mini5L.jpg
See what I am saying? The rear overhang on the production model is too much. Also, compare how close the rear passenger window frame comes to the tail lights in the concept, and how far it is in the production model. Just extending the frame by a couple of inches would dramatically improve the look. Currently, if you hide the front half of the car, the rear looks more like a station wagon than a hatchback.
Heck, look at the WRX STi...
http://www.rsportscars.com/subaru/2008-subaru-impreza-wrx-sti/gallery/photo-14551/
WOW, that rear end and the overall profile of the roof and rear looks MUCH BETTER than that of this new Lancer hatch. The Lancer looks awkward in the back, whereas the WRX looks very focused and tightly packed and pulled together. Look at the roof lines at the back as well. In the WRX, the rear windshield slopes down abruptly, giving a nice pulled together appearance, whereas in the Lancer, it slopes down gently, giving it an awkward elongated look which is incongruous with the GREAT front end of the car.
Some other people said it as well, on http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080224.002/mitsubishi-lancer-prototype-s-hot-hatch-images-leaked :
Quote : | "The tail looked better in concept form, now it seems too soft, as though they just could not figure out how to unite the profile with the tail. The way the chrome window strip ends at the rear door, with no visual connection to the hathc leaves me wanting more. IMO the Subaru hatch looks much better, more along the lines of the great Alfa GTV6's of the 80s, while this Evo a bit like the late 70s Toyota Corolla hatchback. Close, but not quite." |
Quote : | "Rear half is way too long for normal "Hot Hatch"... " |
Anyway, here are some pics:

This shows exactly what I am saying. Compare these 2 pics:
http://www.rsportscars.com/subaru/2008-subaru-impreza-wrx-sti/gallery/photo-14554/ http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080224.002/mini2/mitsubishi-lancer-prototype-s-hot-hatch-images-leaked
See the abrupt vs. gentle sloping of the roofs (WRX vs. Lancer)?
Also you can see how the WRX looks better because its roof goes much higher than that of the Lancer. The Lancer is too low to make it look like a hot hatch. Looks more like a short wagon. 2/25/2008 5:05:41 AM |
SandSanta All American 22435 Posts user info edit post |
Not really seeing the wagon resemblance. 2/25/2008 12:04:13 PM |

^ Look now:
(compare sloping of front and rear windshields, ratio of length to height of car, verticalness of the rear of the car, rear overhangs, overall length of car and wheelbase, etc)
OR

OR

The Subaru is the clear winner when it comes to looking like a hot hatch, but individual design elements, lights, surfaces, etc, are a hell of a lot nicer on the Mitsu.
