I think what rally meant with the "50/50" is that Felton shows flashes of brilliance and then will put up a a string of 3/17, 4/19, 5/20 games. He needs to show more consistency, whether that be with his shot selection or whatever... we need Felton to be be more a scorer in addition to his distributing abilities.
here is his player profile:
http://www.nba.com/playerfile/raymond_felton/game_by_game_stats.html
Check it out. While he does a good job of getting his assists, his FG% is fucking awful for the most part. The most important thing is winning, obviously, and the franchise has progressed since Felton got here, but he definitely has a lot of room for improvement. 7/13/2007 2:20:08 PM |

For the record I like Felton and believe he can become a good NBA PG but he's simply not there yet.
The first half of his rookie season he did pretty much nothing, then the 2nd half of the season he played very well.
Naturally, people were expecting big things this season and when they didn't happen people were a bit concerned.
His shooting percentage is atrocious. He hasn't demonstrated an ability to finish around the basket (like Parker, Nash, Baron, Paul, etc). He's struggled to get his assist numbers up high enough and control his turnovers.
I think part of this can be attributed to how often he had to play out of position at SG and defer to Brevin Knight. Now Knight is gone, so no more excuses. He's eligibile for an extenstion after next season so if he wants the $$$ he's going to have to improve immensely before next season.
Otherwise he's not worth much more than the MLE. 7/13/2007 6:07:53 PM |

No he really hasn't. Felton has an unbelievable ability to get to the basket, and an equally unbelievable ability to miss once he's there. Half of Okafor's baskets last year came from cleaning up an errant Felton layup.
He didn't have this problem in college, and he's pretty solid as far as his build goes, so who the hell knows why he's missing around the basket so frequently. If he can fix that problem, he'll average 5 more PPG easily.

Plain and simple people were expecting his numbers to improve between year 1 and 2 and instead they regressed.
He shot a worse FG%, his points, rebounds, AND assist rates were down across the board (per 40 minutes) while his turnover rate was higher.
His 13.55 per was pretty ugly and would rank him as the 34th best PG in the NBA. That's not what you're looking for with the #5 overall pick. 7/13/2007 6:49:39 PM |

ESPN's John Hollinger named the Bobcats #2 on the NBA's offseason winners behind the Rockets.
Quote : | "2. Charlotte Bobcats (added Jason Richardson and Jared Dudley; lost Brevin Knight; replaced Bernie Bickerstaff with Sam Vincent)
While cynics will claim that frugal Bobcats owner Robert Johnson only signed off on the Richardson deal because he had to get over the minimum salary floor, there's no question that the deal addressed a huge weakness that has plagued the Cats throughout their existence.
Richardson is a reliable scorer and rebounder -- one that will help push rookie bust Adam Morrison out of the rotation if he struggles again -- and gives the Bobcats a much-needed go-to guy late in games. It also allows sharpshooter Matt Carroll to shift to a more suitable sixth-man role, in which his defensive shortcomings won't be so glaring. As a late first-rounder, Dudley could be surprisingly effective too -- don't be shocked if he's earning important minutes by season's end. Add it up and a playoff run doesn't seem far-fetched at all." |

looks like we almost agreed to a sign and trade that would have gotten us Richard Jefferson from the Nets.. I think this deal would look much more attractive to the Bobcats had they not dealt for Richardson but I'm glad things worked out the way they did.
The Nets' summer makeover came close to being far more drastic.According to multiple league sources, the Nets were "very close" to completing a three-team trade that would have landed Lamar Odom from the Lakers while sending Richard Jefferson to the Bobcats. The Lakers, in turn, would have received Gerald Wallace from Charlotte. 7/20/2007 11:51:37 AM |

I would have pissed in my pants if we'd done that deal.
Jefferson's body is breaking down on him. He makes no impact on defense (he cant get steals or blocks). He's an average outside shooter and he really depends a lot on Jason Kidd to put him in scoring opportunities.
Not to mention he has a HORRIBLE contract. Why the fuck would we do that deal when he's half the player Wallace is...? 7/21/2007 1:24:31 PM |

Rookie Photo Shoot: Close-up on Jared Dudley
Quote : | "TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Jared Dudley is dropping 10-foot fallaways one after another. Next, he's floating soft baby hooks about an inch over the front of the rim. Dudley's form is flawless, and with no defender -- no one else even on the court -- all you here is the squeak of the sneaker, the swish of the net and the thud of the ball against the polished court. Squeak, swish, thud. Over and over.
When Dudley starts tossing the ball off the backboard from the free-throw line and trying to throw down with cartoonish ferocity, the quiet rhythm of his previous drills is lost in the laughter and taunts of Nets rookie Sean Williams, Dudley's former teammate at Boston College, and Jermareo Davidson, Dudley's newest teammate on the Bobcats.
But Dudley himself is laughing even harder.
"E-mail me that one," Dudley yells to the photographer shooting his mock dunks. "I need to get that one on e-mail."
Dudley is one of 44 members of the 2007 NBA draft class spending the day at the Knicks' training facility, where Topps and Upper Deck have transformed the gym into about a dozen different photo studios.
Twenty-five of the 30 first-round picks are on hand -- No. 1 Greg Oden, No. 2 Kevin Durant and No. 3 Al Horford included -- and about half the second round is represented, as well.
Dudley, who was drafted 22nd by the Charlotte Bobcats after four years at Boston College, revels in the posing, smiling, jumping, dunking and flipping of no-look passes to assistants and interns as the cameras capture him from every available angle.
And in-between the sessions, he's getting a tiny taste of life as a pro basketball player. There are balls and jerseys to sign, interviews galore and, of course, plenty of "NBA Live" on the two Xboxes in the center of the gym.
While many see Dudley as an NBA sleeper, to be at the photo shoot by 9:30 a.m., Dudley was up at 8:15. He grabbed some breakfast and then found a seat in the back of the bus with Marcus Williams, the Spurs' second-round pick, and Durant (who he believes will be the Rookie of the Year: "Definitely. He's 6-9, most ready to play, most God-given talent, the most class").
Before heading into the gym to begin the shoot, the players met in the locker room to slip on their NBA uniforms for the first time, only to find that many of the unis were conspicuously missing numbers, including Dudley's.
"I'm a first-round guy," he says with faux indignation. "I should have a number. I need to talk to the Bobcats about that."
But his uniform concerns extend beyond the lack of a number. Dudley is more worried about the garish orange colors of the Bobcat unis.
"I don't know if anyone can look good in orange, but I'm going to try my best to look good in orange," he says.
Dudley, a 6-foot-7, 219-pound forward who was the ACC Player of the Year last season, still wants to shed a few more pounds, but not for fashion purposes.
"In the NBA," he says, "it's all about getting up and down the court."
That's why when lunch comes around and he shares a table with Taurean Green, Stephane Lasme, Julian Wright, Davidson and Williams, he remains committed to his diet and goes easy on the burger and hot dog buffet.
After lunch, many of the players' energy and enthusiasm has faded. They are still quick to sign autographs and continue to faithfully execute the photographers' directions, but the rigors of the long day are starting to show.
But Dudley remains animated. He is still talking a bit of smack over the Xbox, still signing, posing and smiling.
"You got to have fun with it," Dudley says. "It's your job. I like stuff like this, and now that I get paid for it, I love it even more."
By 2:30 p.m., Dudley has finished his final league interview. Several photo sessions are all that stand between him and a flight back home to San Diego, where he has spent only a limited amount of time since draft day. So, for a few more hours, it's Dudley dribbling in front of a green screen background ... Dudley squeezing the rock before a fake steel backdrop ... Dudley taking a knee with the ball (NBA logo out) like it's a senior portrait.
It's a little after 5:30 p.m. now, and on his way from one Upper Deck shoot to another, a young Topps employee offers Dudley a small, narrow box. He flips open the top and begins thumbing through the cards until he finally comes to his -- the inaugural 2007-08 Topps Jared Dudley rookie card.
It's a pose he has struck probably 100 times on this day -- a nice smile while holding the ball just under the "Charlotte" on the bright orange jersey -- perfectly masking the fact that his jersey has no number. He borrows a pen and quickly scribbles his signature just under the photo.
Someone comments on his nice signature, to which he responds, "I've been practicing it since the seventh grade."" |

Quote : | "You can read each writer's full breakdown by clicking on the links above, but here is what the pollsters had to say about the Bobcats offseason moves:
From grizzlies.com (third): "With the big draft night trade for Jason Richardson, the Bobcats are in position to make a run at a playoff spot. Richardson is the elite scorer the franchise has always lacked, and will make new head coach Sam Vincent’s job easier. They also re-signed Gerald Wallace to a long-term deal, a critical move for the franchise. If Adam Morrison can improve, and Sean May stay healthy, this is a good team."
From Hawks.com (fourth): "I for one still don’t understand Golden State jettisoning Jason Richardson, but he is exactly the type of perimeter scorer Charlotte has been missing. If they can stay healthy, I think they can be very competitive in the East."
From Hornets.com (fifth): "Say what you will about giving up a lottery pick and the negative salary-cap implications of the Jason Richardson deal. The Bobcats landed a much-needed offensive weapon. One of the youngest teams in the league – which didn’t need another project – now has legitimate playoff aspirations for the first time."
From Lakers.com (fifth): "Charlotte’s trade for Jason Richardson signaled a decision to take their existing group and move forward, rather than adding another talent who would blossom years into the future. Their team is still young, but has scoring potential and a chance to progress into the playoffs this season."
From NJNets.com (third): "The Bobcats needed a go-to scorer and a veteran. So, instead of drafting and waiting on another lottery pick, on draft night they acquired 26-year-old guard Jason Richardson from the Warriors for the rights to Brandan Wright. Late in the first round, they drafted intangibles guy/winner, Jared Dudley. They capped it all off by re-signing Gerald Wallace in July."
From Pistons.com (fourth): "Jason Richardson is still just 26 and he brings what the hard-working Bobcats need most – an unadulterated scorer. Retaining Gerald Wallace was critical. If Emeka Okafor can stay injury-free and Raymond Felton and Sean May take another leap forward, Charlotte could contend for a playoff spot."
From Rockets.com (fourth): "The Bobcats didn’t need to get any younger – and they didn’t. Rather than keeping their lottery pick from the 2007 NBA Draft, Charlotte shipped its draft choice, Brandan Wright, to Golden State for Jason Richardson. With the move, the Bobcats finally have an established go-to player."
From Timberwolves.com (second): "Charlotte has quietly done some good work, starting with the trade for Jason Richardson. They let Brevin Knight go to get more minutes for Raymond Felton and re-signed the enigmatic Gerald Wallace and underrated Matt Carroll. A lineup with Felton, Richardson, Wallace, May and Okafor – with Carroll, Herrmann and Morrison off the bench – looks solid." " |

Quote : | "BOBCATS REVAMP MARKETING Bobcats revamp marketing for new season DAVID SCOTT dscott@charlotteobserver.com
* Blog | Inside the NBA * Forum | Talk about the Bobcats * More NBA and Bobcats news
There will be a new marketing campaign -- with the slogan, "Elevate" -- new uniforms, a cleanly designed court and even a new secondary logo.
But, in a transaction that might have required the most persistence, the Charlotte Bobcats finally have the simplest of names for one of their most public portals. The team Web site, finally, has the domain name of http://www.bobcats.com.
The Bobcats, who used http://www.bobcatsbasketball.com through the first three years of their existence, recently purchased the rights from a domesticated bobcat breeder in rural Montana.
"It's called business," said Barbara Roe, owner of Bitterroot Bobcat and Lynx in Stevensville, a town of 1,500 people located in the Bitterroot Valley of western Montana. "It's what you do. If you have a business somebody wants, you capitalize on it."
Roe said her business had used Bobcats.com for 10 years. She started receiving e-mails from Bobcats team officials in 2004 -- the team's first season -- about purchasing the name.
"They began at a couple of thousand dollars, but they wouldn't meet my price," said Roe.
In February, the Bobcats finally met that price of "about" $50,000, according to Roe.
"I'm certainly not getting rich from it," Roe said. "But I figured if I could get that amount, I would."
Said Bobcats president Fred Whitfield: "We're glad to have it. We weren't trying to hold her up."
The newly named Web site will include a redesign to be revealed in the next few weeks. The ad campaign (the work of Charlotte agency Boone/Oakley) is part of an overall effort to market the face of the franchise: The team itself and players such as newly acquired Jason Richardson and star forward Gerald Wallace.
Whitfield would not say how much the team is spending on the campaign.
The Bobcats, who have cut ticket prices each of the past two seasons, ranked 27th of 30 NBA teams in attendance last season and still haven't made the playoffs.
"This is about us improving as a franchise -- on and off the floor," said Whitfield, who is in his second year with the team.
Whitfield said the team is concentrating on selling premium seats. He said all but three of Bobcats Arena's 60 luxury suites have been sold and seating on the floor -- going for $1,000 per game -- is sold out.
The playing floor now has a less cluttered, more traditional look. Uniforms will be more classic, with changes in the lettering font. The Bobcats' colors of orange-and-blue will make a gradual switch to blue-and-orange. The team will wear blue uniforms for 25 road games this season, moving to blue for all of its 41 away games for the 2008-09 season.
Whitfield said the Bobcats are also increasing their efforts in the community, including partnerships with Presbyterian Hospital, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools." |
