Bought a bit of Cisco today ... 23.25. Not the 22.50 we saw a few weeks ago, but I still have most of my money sitting as cash, just in case things go sour.

Just wanted to buy some looking towards earnings announcement tomorrow.

Yeah, I think I'm done buying for a while, although goog tempted me when it dipped below 500. Maybe I'll start buying again 4th quarter.

QID, SKF and DXD positions taken out last week just turned positive.

I think the recession is starting to look worse but I am not convinced that equities are going down in a straight line. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw 13000 on our way to 11500.

i'll consider buying csco thurs after earnings
they would have to surprise like crazy on earnings for the market to take whatever is said on a positive note

yeah, im really thinking along the lines of what the gang on fast money said today ... 1 year down the road, you can bet that buying cisco at this price was a good decision, even classifying it as a value stock at this price.

Tons of cash on hand, aggressive stock buy back, and low PE for a tech stock make it hard to pass up.

meh. csco has been pretty flat over the last 5 years. Are you guys expecting it to go back up to 2000 prices?

If you call 60%+ in a matter of less than a year as "Flat" then yes sir, you are correct. (17.xx - 31.xx) from Aug 06 - Aug 07

Last time cisco was this undervalued, thats exactly what it did. I understand that we are in a recession, but cisco was being oversold before this real recession scare started to hit, and the overselling was disguised by general market weakness.

I dont expect 80 bucks a share. But back to the 34-36 dollar level from here would be a great 3 year return on a safe and solid stock.

my CSCO breakeven is 29 and change...

they also said on Fast Money that Mercury is in retrograde and its the year of the rat, so the market is in for a bear most of this year

If you got lucky and timed it right, you made money -- but you can say that for any stock. If you held it for the year, you lost money.

There is two parts to buy low sell high ... Dont forget to do both

You have to take profits sometime unless you want to ride waves your entire life -- but that wouldnt be called "trading" ... that would be called "saving"

Selling 90% of my positions back in October was the best thing that could have happened to me, in terms of investing.

Those who bought TIE low and actually sold it probably made some ok money ...

You have to understand yourself, and make a strategy... if you are just a saver, then shoot for 15% per year with little to no time invested.

If you are looking to make money fast, you have to be able to cut emotions, and TRADE, not ride.

Looking for a tradable bottom today - esp in the financials.

Futures don't look good as of 8AM and I think the pressure from the bad retail numbers will climb as the morning wears on. At this point I am looking for an exit out of SKF and to a lessor extent QID and DXD. All utlrashort ETFs by the way.

I have been bearish on retail and tech. Retail was actually reasonably priced until the recent run-ups. I am betting that it retreats significantly today and I will be decidely less bearish.

Tech is still iffy. Some of the big names, AAPL comes to mind, have come down from their insane highs but risks remain. What I am concerned about is that forward profits may be grossly overstated. My first guess is that much of tech should be looking at losses in the second half of 2008.

I can't comment on indivdual names but I have a hard time seeing how business investment and consumer discretionary are not seriously down in the coming months.

Crud . . . .forgot about jobless claims. If they are not too bearish this morning we may not get a good bottom. On the other hand if they are bad . . .

Any online trading sites you guys would recommend for starting with a small amount say around 500 bucks just to play with a bit and get a feel for trading. Scott trade seems to be the only big name one I have come across that doesnt require at least 1000 or 2500 to start up an account.

Yes, yes we would -- I think she'll become a household name within the next 5-7 years as a news anchor, doing more mainstream news.
