I liked McMurray before just because he drove for Roush, but I have a whole new respect for him now, should have used your turn signal jr. I can't believe juan was only penalized 2 laps, that lawsuit must be making Nascar soft. 6/30/2008 8:04:59 AM |

TNT's coverage is horrible compared to fox. yeah, they have little cheesy "foxisms", but at least they don't have uncomfortable dead periods, annoying 3 minute long commercial overlays, and end up missing half the major moves in the race. TNT coverage has zero insight on what is happening on the radios and in the pit.
As a casual fan, I watched nearly all of every race early in the season and I find myself flipping channels midway through the race because their coverage sucks so hard. 7/5/2008 9:30:40 PM |

I almost had NASCAR overload! DIRECTV had the HotPass for free, so I was watching the channels for Burton, Jr, Gordon, and Harvick, plus the TNT coverage AND the four cameras on TNT Race Buddy on http://nascar.com
The internet coverage runs about 5 seconds ahead of DIRECTV, so I saw all the starts and wrecks there first. 7/5/2008 11:55:28 PM |

There was nothing "wide open" about it. If I had to guess, there were actually more commercials and they were longer and they intruded on the screen so much they may as well have just cut away to a real commercial anyways. Not to mention the fact that there were a bunch of morons in the booth speaking over each other the entire race.

Quote : | "Teresa Earnhardt Looking to sell DEI? Sirius NASCAR Radio's Sirius Speedway is reporting today that Teresa Earnhardt has enlisted the services of Bear, Stearns and Company to find a buyer -- or at least a major financial investor -- for Dale Earnhardt, Inc. Bear Stearns is an investment bank, securities trading and brokerage firm based in New York City, and has been charged with finding a buyer for the entire operation. Barring that, Earnhardt is said to be interested in selling at least a minority interest in the team. DEI President of Global Operations Max Siegel declined to comment on the story when contacted earlier today.(Sirius NASCAR Radio's Sirius Speedway)(7-7-2008)" |
I have a prediction for NASCAR 2009. There will be less than 40 teams racing in a substantial number of races.
DEI (or whatever it will be) will barely run 1 or 2 teams, certainly not 3 or 4. MWR (Waltrip) will not run 3 teams next year. Ganassi is already down to two teams, and I doubt the third team will be back next season. Robby Gordon won't be able to run a full season next year.
This year 45 teams normally show up for the 43 spots. Assuming everything else stays the same, that would give us 41 teams competing.
Now consider teams like 21-Woods Brothers, 78 - Furniture Row, Petty Enterprises' two cars, and the three cars of Gillette Everham and Penske that might not field as many cars next year, and NASCAR could have a large problem.7/7/2008 9:01:09 PM |
stowaway All American 11770 Posts user info edit post |
who's out at MWR? All three driver's tend to run together during most races. Is Menard gone from DEI? Truex? Aric? All three are pretty much locked in. Ganassi won't drop below 2 teams unless he lets Montoya go, then they may fold alltogether. Petty will have 2 cars. Bobby is a lock and I don't see them letting the other team stop running. Robby is talking with investors (JV) and might have 2 cars next year. Penske will pick someone up to run the 12 if the rumors are true that Newman is gone. Haas/TS (if that goes through) will have a solid 2 cars in all of the races. RCR will have the 4th car, and JGR is looking at a 4th car. Even if we lose a car hear or there from existing teams, someone will step up and make sure they are in the race to collect the prize money. This doesn't happen in the trucks and nationwide series because the purses are so small in comparison to the cost of going to the event. 7/7/2008 9:29:57 PM |

^ All of the "major" tracks will have 43 or more show up for qualifying. Some of the other tracks could potentially struggle to have a field of 40. In fact, I would hazard a guess and list Atlanta, California Speedway, and possibly Phoenix, Dover, Pocono, and Martinsville as tracks that might not have a 43 car field early in the year. (Unless NASCAR does what they did a few seasons ago and "arrange" for field fillers to show up, start the race, and get off the track.) 7/7/2008 10:05:35 PM |
erice85 All American 4549 Posts user info edit post |
i dont see the logic in that.
I see about 45 cars at the least starting the season and if the spot is open, someone will enter just for the prize money. I dont know if you will see under 43 anytime soon. Not if someone can just show up and get paid 7/7/2008 10:26:03 PM |
stowaway All American 11770 Posts user info edit post |
pocono will have fillers, atlanta as well. anywhere within a single day drive of Charlotte will have people show up. well, Pocono might not because it's a shitty track with the gear rule. No one wants to run California, but I can see the same team trying to hit both races out west early on (keep the driver and one or two guys to "watch" the trailer and then fly a handful of crew members in on Friday) so they can get $$$ and points toward getting locked in the top 35, then sponsors will step up. The 78 is a lock for those two (as well as Phoenix) because they are in Denver and have a much shorter drive than all of the other teams, plus they have thrown the 87 in a few races as well. The team always seems to perform half-decent when they get a good motor in the car. TRB is likely to start a 3rd team toward the end of next season as well for Scott Speed. Roush is going to be "selling" a team to Yates at some point soon, and that should help with Yates keeping the cars in the field. Realistically I don't see anything under 44 showing up for any race next year, and with another batch of used chassis showing up the smaller teams will be able to race even more whereas they couldn't this year. Hell, Boris Said might just get out there and run most of the races if the numbers get to where he can make events more easily.

Has anyone noticed that ESPN would rather plug NASCAR than an endless array of baseball this summer? Maybe the fact that they are televising races has something to do with this, but I really think that the amount of coverage, the number of articles I've found/read, etc. on NASCAR has been a lot more then even in the last 2 or 3 years.
