I lol'd at that one. The Detroit game is going to be interesting. Wasn't it Detroit that they were up 5-1 one year going into the third and lost 6-5? I can't remember.
The reason I said second was because we do have 6 games against Atlanta, which this year looks like the games they were years ago. I think they're built a lot better this year than last, though I will miss Wesley (not Hedican). If it was a 5 on 3, I wanted Wesley out there as he was an absolute horse, anyone remember that shift in Game 1 of the finals where he blocked 3 or 4 shots in a row and somehow kept going?
I think if we can get Ruutu to play to his potential alongside Staal, then we put whoever else with that line and it'll be good. I think we should go back to the Williams-Brindy-LaRose line, early on that line was clicking pretty well and I think it could be good to bring back. But I'm quite excited about this year and can't wait to go to some games.7/31/2008 12:36:14 AM |

Not sure which forward you are going to relegate to the 4th line for LaRose, but here is what I think you will see on opening night:
Ruutu - Staal - Samsonov Whitney - Brind'Amour - Williams Eaves - Cullen - Walker Brookbank - Sutter - LaRose
Perhaps swap Whitney and Eaves.

Yeah, there's basically some sort of rule that states that if it is John Deere Hat Night, there is a very good chance there's gonna be a couple thousand green hats all over the ice at some point during the game.8/2/2008 1:45:43 AM |

and the other part of me is we could just get some new pucks.
He was definitely one of my favorites from Day 1. Sucks he's all about some alcohol. I met him when he came to a game this past season, nice guy.
This should be interesting - seeing how he wants to come back, maybe he'll be putting alot of effort into shaping up and getting back in the game. 8/7/2008 11:42:09 PM |

I don't put any stock in this, but as the owner of 2 Gaborik shirts and having traveled to St. Paul last year to watch the Wild play, I am obligated to post this and commence daydreaming.
Quote : | "I spoke with a source today that confirmed for me that Carolina has had very serious discussions with Minnesota about aquiring Marian Gaborik. The Hurricanes feel that Staal and Gaborik could be one of the most lethal combinations in the NHL. The rumour I have heard would send Justin Williams, F. Kaberle, prospect Jamie Mcbain and a 1st round draft pick to Minnesota for Marian Gaborik and something else to be determined. The Wild continue to shop Gaborik around the NHL, as Gaborik has made it clear to management that he intends to move on to a more offense-minding team after his contract runs out following this season. The Wild would prefer to trade him prior to the start of the season." |

I'd be down for Whitney, Kaberle, and Nick Dodge for Gaborik. After Nick Dodge fucks all the player's wives in Minnesota they'll send him back for no charge. 8/8/2008 10:35:43 AM |

Williams needs to stay.
I'd part with Whitney all day long for Marian Gaborik, though. Particularly on the 30 game days that Whitney is going to be injured anyway.

If the 'Canes could make the trade with Whitney and not Williams, I would say this is a no brainer. I like Sweden's trade of Whitney, Kaberle and Nick Dodge. I don't know if that'd happen, but Staal and Gaborik would be sick. I think if this trade did go down, we'd need to have him signed to an extension right away. That should be first priority. With the freed salary from Kaberle and Whitney we could easily make him a pretty good deal.
But I think getting rid of Williams creates a problem more than a solution. We need to have players who can play good defense and Williams is one of our better penalty killers, so we don't want to lose him.
So Jimmy boy, get this done, Whitney, Kaberle and Nick Dodge, maybe a 2nd rounder to sweeten the pot a little. Gaborik would be worth it as he is one of the top 10 skaters in the league. A great offensive line without much defense would be Staal, Gaborik and Samsonov. That would be one helluva line to watch. That would put people in seats and help boost profits for the team and increase our self imposed salary cap. 8/8/2008 10:32:54 PM |
Vulcan91 All American 13893 Posts user info edit post |
Sweden's proposal was a joke. If the Wild made that trade the entire franchise should immediately be relocated to Kansas City.
Whitney and Kaberle's salaries would make up like half of Gaborik's salary. Nevermind the fact that we've got Staal due for big money in June. 8/8/2008 10:36:06 PM |
