yesterday morning, but everything on the strip went out including the router, receiver, and PS3. so that may have been some kinda surge thing. but tonight it was just the box, and it happened right before i posted....so less than an hour ago.

the reboot yesterday was caused by a disturbance on the progress energy line that the our powercenter caught. I don't know what caused the reboot of the set top box today, because the router never got disturbed. I'm thinking it might have just been a slip of the remote control that turned it off.

Is everybody still liking it? I think I'm going to switch tomorrow. Time Warner raised my rates again. I called on my lunch break to bitch at them and finally told them that cable TV and internet from them was not worth the time I have to invest on the phone complaining every six months. And I didn't even have a very good rate to begin with.

I think I'm going to get this:
Quote :
"
AT&T U-verse TV U200
Change
$64.00
Receiver Fee
Change
$0.00
Receiver Fee
Change
$7.00
HBO
Change
$14.00
TV Subtotal: $85.00
Internet Internet
High Speed Internet 3.0 Mbps Pro
Change
$38.00
Internet Subtotal: $38.00 "

Gotta have two receivers (roommates). Don't need or want HD. That's pretty comparable to my Time Warner rate only I'm guaranteed that price for the next two years. I'm so sick of Time Warner raising my rates every six fucking months.

I have been on hold for an hour with ATT, and I can't find this on their site...

How is Uverse wired or hooked up. I am getting the internet service, my computer is in the back of the house. I am getting one HD/DVR box, it is in the front of the house. Do I need telephone jacks at each location? Coax connections?

It is an old house that does not have telephone jacks in either room. But, if they are going to charge me for extra installation, I will simply wire them in beforehand.

^Your probably going to have to buy a wireless card for your pc. When they were putting mine in the guy said that the ethernet line comes out of the box that goes to a tv in another room ($7 per month per box), however I was getting the tv box in the room anyways.

You should be fine for the installation (they ran a new line at my house, no charge) because that is part of winning people over. They are willing to eat installation/labor costs for the install because they are confident the product will win people over in the long term (what the technician told me).

Nah. I just don't really give a fuck about that stuff. There, I said it. You and the other consumerists can hang me out to dry now.

I do plan to buy an HDTV soon, but I want it for purely aesthetic reasons. I think my living room will look better with a flat panel on the wall than a CRT on a credenza.

AT&T's website said they could provide service to me. I spent 45 minutes online talking to an agent and set up a package I (and my roommates) wanted. Since they're busy i had to wait 2 weeks for them to come hook up the service (at new house, which at the time had...no service).

Day before they're supposed to set it all up they call me and tell me I'm too far from the junction box. But they assured me that in a few months (or longer) they'd have service to my house.

Thanks you fucking assholes!

Thanks for the replies. So you are saying that the cable modem (dsl/whatever) which seems to have wireless router capability, has to sit near the dvr tv box? And they both run on phone lines? For some reason I thought they att used their phone lines just until it hit the house, then they used some type of box to tap into the coax lines throughout the house.

One more thing. The service price quoted online is $117 here. Does that mean I should expect another $15 a month in fees, similar to skum of the earth Charter?

Ok, I've used Uverse for a month now. I'm liking most aspects, except one thing: The DVR

It sucks dirt. Doesn't do a good job at recording series as my Directv DVR did. It has a lot more settings to choose from than my Directv DVR, but then it doesn't seem to work as well. It's like their algorithm for figuring out which series you are recording was programed by some half-hearted and lazy programmer ... like me

I was excited to watch a recorded show the other night, but when I went to play it, it ended up being some stupid Ali G show. Either, it just wouldn't record or it recorded the wrong show. For example, if a show in the series is named "Great Show" and the next episode is named, "Great Show: The Ending", it won't record the second one with the different naming convention. This has happened several times.

Just my gripe right now.

As much as I want U-Verse, I can't get it at the place I'm moving into this weekend.

In light of that, should I just suck it up and get RoadRunner again (which I don't really want), or BellSouth DSL? The DSL service says its 6 Mbps/512 Kbps @ $47.95/mo, whereas RR is 7 Mbps/384 Kbps @ $49.95/mo.

Because BellSouth is owned by AT&T, I'm hoping that U-Verse is in the works for my apartment complex soon, and I can just upgrade to it easily if I already have DSL. I don't want any TV service, as I have satellite.

Advise me TWW

I am very pleased so far with the stability of my 6Mb/1Mb connection with U-Verse; also, I do like the DVR interface better than many others provided by cable companies.

Anyway I'm canceling the TV portion after the first month since I just used it to get free installation, as I've stated before.

Have fun screwing other customers, TimeWarner, I am finally free of your shackles. Now if we can just convince U-Verse to offer higher speed plans for less money

I can also answer, was in the same place. They can run it over phone line but it is a true patience tester. Took about 5 different techs and probably 40 hours of work total on AT&T's part to get it working properly over the phone lines at our old place. Really depends on how ancient your phone system is, I would imagine. Don't know much on the technical side regarding "why it took 4 days of my x-mas break to get u-verse installed".

Alas, the new place can't even get their service. d'oh. It was nice while it lasted. But damn roadrunner seems slow as hell now.

I just realized that online gaming doesn't run so smooth on Uverse. Latency is (insert explicative). I mean, I don't play much, but just wanted to kill some time tonight. Getting like 200-300 ping on Left 4 Dead.

Heard it had something to do with "interleaving". Starting to get disappointed with Uverse high-speed.

I just joined a referral program from AT&T. When you sign up for an eligible service at att.com/referrals and use my referral code PH1012763, I'll get rewards and you can take advantage of great online offers. Take a look also at the rewards you can earn by signing up for the AT&T Rewards for Referrals program.

I wouldn't tell you about this program if I wasn't completely happy with AT&T. So go take a look and see what AT&T can offer you!

I finally got mine installed a couple weeks ago. Man it was a nightmare...

Had 2 no-show appointments with no calls or notification of any kind from AT&T. First time I called and they rescheduled for 4 days later. When they didn't show up that time I ended up spending over 3 hours on the phone with them that day and was repeatedly told that my loop length was too long. I questioned them b/c my immediate next door neighbor has U450 + 18MB internet with no problems. In the process had some clueless woman trying to explain to me how fiber optics work and that it's "all about the megs" (she literally said that).

Finally got Tier 2 on the phone and the guy said that the loop length wasn't the issue, it was that they couldn't get any sync. I got transferred over to a CS or sales manager, not sure which, and he said they would send out a technician to try to figure out the problem. After I hung up I wrote off the service and decided I wouldn't bother with it anymore.

Well 3 days later a tech randomly shows up, digs up a few back yards, replaces a splice and the cable, and gets sync at my house. They schedule my install for the next Saturday and everything is up and running now.

I like the service so far, the DVR interface is pretty nice and some of the other features are neat (like Flickr photos and Ubar). I'm not impressed with the amount of HD compression, Dish looked way better IMO. The channel line up rocks though, especially for the price, so all-in-all I'm happy and plan on keeping it for a while.

Getting hooked up today.

Got a call yesterday from one of my roommates telling me that the AT&T guy was there and they couldn't find the box. The box is in my sunroom which was built as an addition to the house. After my roommate let him in he said he had to replace it, so he fucked up my roommates plans for the morning while he did that. Irked me a little that this fucker just showed up at 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning with no notice whatsoever.

^I came home from work the day before the install was scheduled and there was a notice on my door saying they came out and tested my lines and i was good to go for my install. I'm guessing thats what they were doing for you but since he didn't have access to your box he had to get inside.

I guess as long as everything goes smoothly with the pre-hookup checks there is no problem, but in situations like mine it is a pain. I wasn't even here, but my mountain bike was locked to the wall in the sunroom right in front of the box. My roommate had to ask first where the box was and then, when he found out where it was located, he had to find my spare key and move the bike so the guy could install the new box. Just seems short-sighted on AT&T's part IMO. I wish they had given me a heads up.

Yea, they really could do a better job letting you know that there will be an advanced installation visit to check the wiring.

Luckily I was home when the advance visit occurred because the wiring is behind a locked outdoor storage room and they would have been unable to access it if I weren't there.

Ah well, what can ya do.

They let me know there would be an advance visit the day before to check the existing connection stuff at the house. The techs that AT&T has are awesome. They really seem to know their stuff and have gone out of their way to help me and answer questions. Its almost like AT&T itself gets in the way of them doing their job. Big difference between permanent employees and the contractors that TWC used.

Can anyone state the quality of u-verse HD over TWC's HD?

I'm looking for a comparison, after paying for the boxing fights last weekend in all the pixelation glory from TWC, im offically dropping their ass.

Thanks!
