Anyone use a vest like this for hot days? My aussie/collie gets hot pretty easily especially with a black coat. She loves rolling in cold stream water and this thing would be perfect to soak it all up and keep her cool all day.

We've got a cooling "rag" (one of those "towels" that swimmers and car washers use to dry off) that we take to the beach with us on really hot days. We keep it in the cooler and put it on our dog when he lays down. With that being said, he normally stays pretty cool when we're out there between swimming in the ocean and laying in the shade under the umbrella.
Our big thing is always having water with us. He'll drink a small cooler worth of water on a hot day. 6/22/2015 1:57:04 PM |

Yeah for me it's mainly backpacking in the summer. Even at 12k feet it can be hot in the sun (80+). It's dry so evaporative cooling works great but she needs to be wet for it to work. Every chance she gets she jumps in the cold streams and that keeps her cool for 30 minutes until she's dry again. This would be great because the jacket would keep her wet until she found another stream. Or we could just pour water over it. 6/22/2015 2:10:55 PM |

Piper loves the new swamp cooler jacket. We walked to the grocery store and it was almost 90 degrees and sunny and she was barely panting. You could easily tell it was keeping her cool because her hair/skin was very cool underneath the jacket compared to her hair outside the jacket. An hour later when we got home the jacket was still quite wet.

^^^ Could probably make an identical video of my dog. He has zero mouth/eye coordination. Pretty much just lunges once you toss something...so it's always premature. Poor guy... 8/5/2015 2:21:13 PM |

Got a new pup in the house. The in-laws are getting ready to sell their house in Connecticut and were having a rough time with their new puppy (white/orange roan dog pictured below). He was digging lots of holes in the yard and being a little destructive inside. They were doing a horrible job training him (father in-law is on the road for work all the time and the mother-in-law just sucks at discipline). So we're keeping him until they move down here at the end of the summer.
So far...decent. He's dug a couple holes in our yard, but his other bad behaviors are starting to disappear with better discipline/training. And the positives are that he's just a really fun dog and good company for current dog. Took them both to the beach yesterday and wore their asses out.

Anyone used Musher's Secret? We're considering winter dog boots but everyone says the oil/wax stuff is way better as it keeps their feet warm, clean, and prevents snowballs from forming on dogs with particularly hairy feet (like shepherds). 1/4/2016 2:30:35 PM |
