How often are guys traded after being awarded arbitration? Rare, common, or somewhere in the middle?

[Edited on September 6, 2010 at 11:41 AM. Reason : traded that offseason, not the following trade deadline or something like that]

I don't know that arbitration winners are traded any more or less than other players, and I can't think of a compelling reason why they would be. What prompted that question?

Haha, someone was trying to tell me sign & trades happened in MLB. I told them they don't b/c the players have no incentive for it like they do in NBA. We then wondered whether it happens with guys right after signing their arby deals, as thats the only time teams have chances to actually sign & trade

Carlos Gonzalez is on the biggest tare I've seen someone get on in a long time.

Now it looks like he might be front-runner for MVP. His one drawback is his lower OBP.

Carlos Gonzalez, .340 BA, 32 HRs, 100 RBIs, .996 OPS, .375 OBP, .621 SLG, 94 Runs
Joey Votto, .321 BA, 32 HRs, 98 RBIs, 1.014 OPS, .422 OBP, .592 SLG, 94 Runs
Albert Pujols, .308 BA, 35 HRs, 97 RBIs, .983 OPS, .401 OBP, .582 SLG, 96 Runs

I guess it mostly will come down to who makes the playoffs.

Car-Gon is a liability in the field. When you account for positional fielding, it's actually Ryan Zimmerman who joins Votto & Pooholes in NL MVP discussion

I still think Votto will win the MVP unless Gonzalez is able to take the triple crown and/or lead the Rockies to the playoffs. Thing about Gonzalez is that he has overtaken Infante in BA regardless if Infante gets enough PAs or not.

Anyone on here have any idea what the formula is that Elias uses for RPs to determine compensation?

Random, I know, and I searched Google w/o luck. Was wondering if anyone on here had any ideas

^ ha ha.

Honestly a month or so ago, the NL Cy Young was shaping up to be an amazing race and then all of the pitchers turned into Kenshin Kawakami. Wainwright and Carpenter started struggling along with the rest of the Cardinals, Josh Johnson got hurt, Hudson started sucking, Ubaldo continued his slide, Halladay really hasn't pitched well of late even though he's getting Ws. Lincecum has started pitching better, but it looks like Halladay is going to be the choice. Fucking Phillies.

Wainwright has won 3 of his last 4 starts and his numbers are still the same or slightly better than Roy.
But its for sure down to them two.

AL should go to Felix but he plays on such a bad team his win/loss record isn't great. Price/Buchholz/Lester/Sabathia could all win it.

GG to the Cubs for beating the Padres the past two nights. Also GG to the Dodgers for eliminating the Rockies. Braves and Giants fans are thankful.

Reds clinched the NL Central last night and both the Rays and Yanks clinched playoff spots. No drama this year in the AL with regard to pennant chases outside of the Yanks/Rays playing for the East crown.

Phillies in 3
Giants in 4
Rangers in 5
Yankees in 5

Phillies in 6
Rangers in 5

Rangers in 7!

Maybe this is highly unlikely...I do find it odd how everyone's predictions in the AL for the first round are so similar and contradictory. The Rangers have the best post season pitcher in baseball right now... if he can win 2 starts, which is not unlikely, they need to win only 1 other game. Same for Sabathia and the Yankees, whose rotation is in COMPLETE shambles right now. The best chance they have is for CC to win 2 and pick up another one somewhere, which every single person so far has predicted is going to happen.

I'm sure the arguments will come that Cliff Lee isn't the same as he was last year, blah blah. That's an incorrect argument. Up to the time he came to Texas he was better than he was last year. The heat in Texas combined with them giving him no rest was the major problem. They let him rest, he came back, and is back to being the pitcher he was before.

i wish i was excited about the playoffs starting as i used to be from 1988 to around 2001. Of course, this roughly coincides with the absolute crash of the Orioles.

I still think the height of post-1960s baseball is this series:

^ agreed....except the part where ron gant was blatantly pulled off first base. Still, a classic series with huge pitching performances, it embodied what the World Series should be

^ Yeah that Ron Gant play is still one of the most ridiculous calls in sport history. The Braves had a couple of the most memorable/horrible umpiring mishaps when you include the Livan Hernansdez / Eric Gregg bullshit from 1997. No wonder Bobby Cox led the world in ejections.

I also will be rooting for the Braves to come out of the NL

At least the Braves got 1. Only 1, but they still got 1. The Indians, the Bills, the Jazz, and the Suns would all trade places with them in a minute.

I think my favorite playoffs ever was the run the Indians made in 2007, when they beat the Yankees in the ALDS (featering the Joba and the mayflies game), then went on to take a 3-1 lead on the Red Sox in the ALCS only to lose in 7 games. I had so much fun watching those games. The Indians go on a run every 4-5 years as their young talent starts to mature. We make it to the playoffs a couple years in a row, and then inevitably sell off all of our young players before they are due for a big contract. Next year might not be the playoff year for the Tribe, but I think they could finish in the top 3 of the Central Division; then they'll make the playoffs in 2012-13.

anyways, I want the Rays to win because of the Durham Bulls connection, along with the fact that they are a young, fun team to watch. However, I hate their fans and the way they dont show up to regular season games. I almost want them to lose so the bandwagon fans wont get a chance to pack the ballpark only because they make a playoff run.

I wish the Rockies got into the playoffs, they are another young, fun team to watch. I like the Reds too, so I might pull for them and the Braves in the NL, along with the Rays/Rangers in the AL
