I haven't read the books, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

There is a region of the continent (the extreme north) where the creatures/people that were in the first 5 min of episode 1 live. The wall is what separates that northern area from the rest of the land.

They are the nights watch, They guard the wall from stuff coming from the north.

There are supernatural things up there but they mostly just guard from barbarians (they call them wildlings)

not sure why you are comparing them to Hungarians (maybe you meant Mongolians as a comparison? I guess I always thought the whole Hungarian Calvary thing was later than feudal times) but yes.

The guys at the wall are the Night's Watch. Some are there voluntarily (for the same reason somebody would enlist in the army, say--out of a sense of duty), but most are there because they had no other choice. They're rapists, or they're thieves, and their options were execution or going to the wall.

Sam's a big fat pussy, so his dad told him if he didn't join the watch he was going to murder him. He refused to let his land and title pass to Sam. The men of the Night's Watch hold no land or titles, so this would basically be a way for Sam's dad to skip over Sam and pass his stuff down to his next son.

What do you mean? He has some of the best character development throughout the books. He's an awesome character. He's cast very well too.

Sam definitely grows into his own as the books go on, don't count him out yet.

I think I might have to start re-reading this series before the next book comes out...that and it'll be nice to be refreshed before season 2 pemieres

Haha for some reason I thought thats who they were....from Hungary. I guess I confused them with someone else. I thought whenever the hot blonde/queen asked that guy if the Hungarians would cross the sea and they guy said they wouldnt without their horses. So I guess Im looking for clarity on that situation and their relation to the other characters

You had that right except they are Dothraki, not Hungarians. It's not set in our world so there is no Hungary. They won't cross the sea because they are "afraid of any water their horses won't drink."

True but it's slightly historical fiction. Being based on the Wars of the Roses. The family names even match up. Plus the map is totally the UK with Scotland being the north etc.

The Night's Watch mans the Wall, a huge fortification built primarily of ice located in the far north of Westeros. The Wall is 300 miles long (100 leagues) and over 700 feet high. According to Westerosi legend, it was built after the period known as the Long Night by the nearly mythical Brandon the Builder (who was a Stark) over 8,000 years prior to the present setting. Episode 4 was great, particularly the last few scenes. They nailed the Cat/Tyrion scene. Hope they continue with the rest of the tourney in episode 5 - more development for Gregor and the Hound!

They will definitely have more of the tourney to show. Some of the footage was used in early promos etc. I thought it was weird that they didn't include any in the Episode 5 preview but it will be in there. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

So I downloaded the ebooks of all 4. I finished 2 yesterday and went to pull up 3. For anyone who hasn't read the books each chapter is the name of a character and that chapter is from their perspective. Each time I've started one of the books I've scrolled through the chapter list just for fun.

I did not realize that for some reason on the bookshelf of my ipad book 4 was listed before book 3. Lets just say I was really confused when I saw the names of each chapter for book 4.

Yes in the books it was Varys and Illyrio talking, though they weren't called out by name since Arya didn't know them and it was her POV chapter. You just had to fill in the blanks based on description.

Renly and Loras were also gay in the books. Just another thing that wasn't spelled out. Or maybe it was? I dono. A few passages hinted pretty strongly at it so I made the assumption at least. Surprised they dedicated an entire scene to it though here.

Overall another solid episode.

GRRM confirmed it outside of the books so it removed any doubt I had but I remember my wife and I debating it after we read the books back when we did.

They weren't overly gay acting or anything, it was just hinted through dialogue mainly.

arya absolutely steals every scene she is in.

also, i thought the subtle gayness and banter between renly, loras, and littlefinger at the tournament was enough to establish loras and renly being gay. i don't think we needed arm pit shaving but w/e.

also, i thought loras looked a little too skinny/frail to be a knight but it's not a very big deal.

lysa arryn was pretty spot on.

i think the show might work better when they focus on one or two plots rather than dancing between the wall, danerys, king's landing, winterfell, etc.

That scene as a whole and the scene with Renly and Loras were my least favorite parts of the episode. And it had absolutely nothing to do with the content, I just felt they didn't add much to the episode and with limited time to cover lots of ground, that's an error you don't want to make.

Overall though, as stated previously, I LOVED this episode. Thought it was awesome. I just thought that Theon's scene was pointless really (it didn't establish anything that we didn't already know about Theon) and Renly's and Loras' scene wasn't really needed either. The only thing I can think of with their scene is that they were trying to create some extra suspense tied to some certain future events I can't discuss here because of spoilers.
