debbie yow is the reason UMD was so good at basketball AND football while i was an NCSU Student..

I hated her but i'm glad she's on my team now.


she was at UMD from 1994 till 2010...

the years Gary Williams didn't make a tournament at all...

What does she have to get in order here? I don't get that. Seems to me things are in order... I think Gregg was the one Debbie was calling out yesterday over Duke/UNC--where she implied that whoever it was, would probably say they chose not have a one on one, but really we didn't pursue them any further. Shaka we did actually offer, but in all honesty, that is the only one that officially turned us down. I'm not sure what really went down with Barnes and Miller.

My issue with the whole being "turned down" moniker is that there are two sides to an offer. The huge sums of money we were throwing around was all based on internet conjecture. What if we actually offered Shaka 1.7 million, and Gregg 1.2-1.4 million and they asked for more money, more assistant coaches, higher % of the shoe deal, more camp money, etc. There are about a dozen variables in the contract with $ being the most important one. People keep talking about this as if it was NCSU asking for a date to the dance and getting rejected. NCSU offering 1.5 million vs. NCSU offering 3 million would have ended with much different results.

Also pointed out that it took away from the hiring of Gottfried...saying it was the wrong time to bring it up (hard to disagree with that). It last like 3 minutes. Wasn't much to it...

Except she didn't bring it up, someone from the media asked the damn question to Gottfried about her reputation and she finally had enough of her reputation being slung through the mud she commented on what we had already been hearing about: GW slinging mud.

While I agree to some extent, I don't blame her for standing up for herself. It would be entirely different to me if he was asked that question without her being there and she just came out on her own with a response.

What bothers me most is that a significant people acknowledge it to be true but are still ripping into her about it. Regardless of any impact or timing how is somebody not talking about the fact that there is a coach actively and apparently unsolicited badmouthing the job and the admin.
