Holy crap working iphone costumes.

So my plans for this year were to go with a group of people doing a group/theme costume to Hillsborough St (back when we assumed it would be on Sunday, although it seems to have shifted to Sat to some degree). My costume was pretty much destroyed in shipping, was way bigger than the specifications said to the point of not fitting, & arrived too late to exchange in time killing our group costume plan (delayed until next year for Hboro), and my husband was going to a school related conference in Richmond & then up to the Rally to Restore Sanity in DC on Sat which made Sat not an option. So we ended up with a group of people on Franklin St on Sunday instead. I was kind of bummed about that b/c I was excited about Hboro St, especially now that it had been revitalized, but this worked best for the rest of the group & I was already killing the group costume idea with my original costume being non-functional. We ended up having a good time though. We got some shots of our group's costumes before heading out after we got there. While you couldn't park downtown, it was easy to park at the apartment complexes just outside of downtown & bus in or walk in (2 of us bussed, 2 that came later walked in):My brother:A friend from Raleigh:My husband & I (him reprising a past costume & me with a very simple one, since we weren't doing the group thing any more & had to come up with replacement options fast)Walking onto Franklin St when things were getting started after watching a few scary movies on campus:Everyone wanted pics with the giant condom:Double Rainbow, all the way (looks like a triple rainbow w/ that shirt):Bender:Not a witch:Center of downtown:Looking the other direction in the center of downtown:We walked about a mile and a half down one side & back up the the other seeing costumes the whole way. Although it was considerably more thinned out near the edges & in Carrboro.Live every week like its shark week:Around midnight we grabbed dinner at Time Out and then bussed back to the car. I'm looking forward to next year on Hboro St.

A few more from last night, from various other sources:here's a slightly better shot, but not great, of the fast food bunch:I missed getting pics of those 2, glad I found them elsewhere online.source: Chris Folio at http://www.flickr.com/photos/floriopics/sets/72157625162714833/with/5135158641/These guys got so pissed off when I asked them if they were ninja turtles. They said think 90s. Didn't help. Then they said think Pokenmon. So I called them Pikachus and walked off. (for the record, I've played smash bro, I know what a Squirtle is, and they look nothing like one)Some actual ninja turtles here:I have no idea what they are:Supplanter right now, but he went and fucked up the thread.NOW WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?!

11/2/2010 10:05:20 AM
Is the new hipster thing to do to wear Halloween costumes people won't recognize?
11/2/2010 10:07:30 AM
^Eh? Hipsters? I thought attempting to be unique or original was kind of a universal pursuit... at least among those who actually put thought or effort into their costumes ahead of time.Hell, someone doesn't need to be a hipster to enjoy an in-joke or a reference to something they like, regardless of how obscure that reference is.[Edited on November 2, 2010 at 10:14 AM. Reason : .]
11/2/2010 10:13:20 AM
The goal wasn't to be obscure, we just wanted to go like that. Just so happens no one knew what we were. One of the two guys that recognized us, our neighbor a few houses down, got a real kick out of it though.
11/2/2010 10:19:16 AM
this thread is full of some of the lamest costumes I have ever seen in my life.
11/2/2010 2:48:52 PM

^Hipsters are the ones doing it for the appearance of doing it (or doing it for the irony, obviously). For example, they're the sort of people who might say they enjoy Wes Anderson films because they want to come across as a fan of Wes Anderson films rather than because they simply enjoy the movies (even if they do enjoy the movies... it's a matter of priorities). Hipsters are more about presenting an image rather than living a reality, if that statement makes any damn sense... A style over substance sort of thing.Someone who enjoys traditionally hipster-ish things but isn't being fake and self-referential would just be... just another person, but with hipster tendencies, I suppose.[Edited on November 2, 2010 at 3:05 PM. Reason : yeah, that comment probably didn't warrant such an elaborate response, but I don't care.]
11/2/2010 3:03:38 PM

we are having a Jurassic Park themed party in two weeks, I'm going to be Mr. DNA.
11/2/2010 4:23:30 PM
You hipsters need to stop arguing and go back to praising my Inspector Gadget costume. I should have checked out the costume contests downtown, but I figured I'd have more fun at Hilsborough St. Wish I still lived in Raleigh and could have gone Sunday night as well.
11/2/2010 4:24:29 PM
so I went to a gay bar on Halloween ... I'd say the venue increased my costume recognition by at least 25%
11/2/2010 10:57:05 PM
Gadgetphone in action. It's a little hard to see the antenna in the pic, but it worked great. Especially since I got to make the hand gesture for "Call me" at all of the pretty girls that liked my costume.I had a microphone and speaker in the thumb/pinky, but it was far too loud on Hilsborough for me to actually use it.The finger-light worked out pretty well, I'll try finding a photo of it.
11/3/2010 12:03:16 AM
^ thats about the only one on this page worth a shit... That one guy is the worst Shaggy I have ever seen. Wig isnt even remotely close.
11/3/2010 12:47:42 AM
I went as The Doctor, and kinda got OCD and built a prop TARDIS... Parked it near the Bell Tower, but it was a bit too much to get down to Hillsborough St.
11/4/2010 1:52:43 AM
^Wait, did you actually have that out there?I didn't even see it, damn.
11/4/2010 1:57:46 AM
^^ that's pretty awesome, what'd you do with it?
11/4/2010 2:06:09 AM
Yeah it was over on Maiden Lane, you could see it from Sadlack's parking lot I think (it was taller than the fence at least and lit up). Now I gotta figure out how to put it up in my basement or something, thing is right at 9ft tall!
11/4/2010 2:16:08 AM
Damn son that TARDIS is awesome!
11/4/2010 9:25:13 AM
