^^the only thing i can even find in that article is:
Quote : | "“It has been observed that movies can reflect the national mood,” Democratic advisor Christopher Lehane told the Washington Examiner. “Whether it is spelled Bain and being put out by the Obama campaign or Bane and being out by Hollywood, the narratives are similar: a highly intelligent villain with offshore interests and a past both are seeking to cover up who had a powerful father and is set on pillaging society" |
and then just a bunch of fluff about "democrats" are doing this, and dems are doing that. but the article doesn't show any real evidence that O's campaign is "using the character Bane as propaganda".
I'm not saying they aren't, I'm just curious to see the evidence. Sorry to bring Soap Box in here.7/19/2012 10:05:58 AM |

^^ If I'm interpretting that article correctly, even marbles is not true IMAX.
The second page lists Discovery Place in Charlotte as having the only 1570 IMAX in the state. Marbles is listed as one of the Huge IMAX theaters with digital projection (which the author suggests could be much worse than LIEMAX) 7/19/2012 10:25:56 AM |

Last time I went to crossroads IMAX with some friends, we were all severely disappointed. I thought it was strange that they all of a sudden had "IMAX" films (they didn't always)... and then when we walked in the theater, we realized it was a smaller screen.
I only go to marbles for imax now.

And Discovery Place is a dome. So you have to leave the state to see it as Nolan intended.

Non spolier gripes....
1. For the first half, I could not understand a damn thing Bane said. It got better near the end, but damn. 2. Switching backdrop cities 3. lack of tie-in to Dark Knight. Did Batman just hang it up right after Dent's death or what?
All things considered? Solid ending to the trilogy. 7/20/2012 4:28:03 AM |

Great movie. Felt immensely satisfying to end a trilogy on. Pacing was definitely a slower than the previous two - not that that's bad, it just felt a little slower.

Saw midnight showing last night.
Overall enjoyed it. It was a bit too predictable, or maybe I just knew too much about the characters, but won't go into any details as most would be spoilers.
I thought I'd hate Bane's voice, but it really wasn't that bad. I did find it strange that in the first part of the movie he sounded like Sean Connery, and then his accent faded, haha.
I'd say it falls somewhere between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Overall great trilogy. 7/20/2012 8:26:00 AM |

My post will contain spoilers, so avoid it if you haven't seen the movie yet...
I thought it was a pretty decent movie. I just wish there had been more "batman". The batman scenes were quick. There was a lot of brawling by batman, but not a lot of other stuff. I was hoping he would have a new tumbler or car or something. Bane was good as a villain. The accent and voice sounded strange in parts, especially when he did the inflection at the end of a word or sentence. The only gripes I have about the movie are the main plot device (time bomb)... the whole time bomb thing is so played out I wish there had been something different. The other gripe is I wish it was more directly tied to Dark Knight... They should have at least mentioned the joker or something...(I understand why they didn't) It wasn't as dark as the other ones.. maybe because more of the action scenes were in daylight..
I like 2 the best, then 3 and 1 are tied.

I thought they did a good job of tweaking the character stories from the Dark Knight comics just enough so it wasn't TOO predictable and still had some small surprises.

Loved it. Only complaint about the trilogy as a whole is that I wish we'd seen more of the Arkham Asylum and the Narrows from Batman Begins in TDK and TDKR. Specific to the movie though I wish there were just more scenes with Wayne as Batman and I feel like they tried to include too many new characters too quickly in the first half of the movie. The second half legitimately stacks up against anything I've seen in a theatre in a long time. 7/20/2012 5:11:04 PM |

I enjoyed the SHIT out of this movie. I thought it was significantly darker, bleaker, and more tense than either of the other two films. I don't think this one had quite the depth of TDK, and I don't think Bane is nearly as iconic as The Joker, but he was a great villain nonetheless. Probably the most hardcore villain I've ever seen in a superhero movie. I thought it was an outstanding end to an outstanding trilogy.
*** SPOILERS ***
My only three gripes are as follows:
1. Selina Kyle says "I just know you should be as afraid of him as I am". When I heard this, I was expecting there to be more of a story between her and Bane. I might have misinterpreted something but this is never revisited or explained in detail. 2. The "twist" at the end where Miranda reveals herself to be al Ghul's daughter felt a little tacked on to me. I felt like this could have been better incorporated into the story line because it's just dropped on you right before the ending. 3. I felt like there could have been better transitions from TDK. The Joker isn't even mentioned a single time throughout the entire film and there's not really any explanation as to why Batman hung up his suit outside of injuries or his girl dying.

I have a feeling that joker would have been mentioned if not for Heath Ledger's passing... Just my opinion.
Also, I felt TDK was wayyyyyy darker than this one... I watched all 3 of them yesterday and they are fresh in my head.
spoiler:
My favorite scene in the whole movie was the 2nd brawl between batman and bane when they are on the steps to the courthouse... Bane started throwing punches left and right really quick and the music picked up and it was epic....

*** SPOILER ***
This was my main gripe of the movie. She really did feel tacked on - it could've been about 10 mintues shorter and cleaner without her and just having Bane be the guy to the end. I mean she was there to set up the bomb, but they could've done it easily anywhere else. It was a 'twist' but I wasn't that impressed
They used Harvey Dent as a transition between then and now, but a minute of generic montage news reports (What happened to Batman, Joker locked in Arkham, etc) would've helped.
I think it was a little darker than TDK. TDK was a rollercoaster of climaxes, and this was more of a slow slow buildup. Joker murdered a bunch of people but they kept a lot of it offscreen. Bane going around just murdering people with his bare hands was pretty damn brutal.

I definitely laughed when she did, her acting was terrible at that moment.
like a few people have said, Batman did not get anywhere near enough screen time, the movie was 164 minutes i believe, i would say the amount of time we saw Batman in his suit, on screen, was around 20-25 minutes.
i had no problem understanding Bane's voice, although MANY of the other characters had lines that i could not understand
so apparently Wayne fell in love with Miranda Tate. Wait, what...when....how...nevermind. its not like they seemed to have only met a couple of times and then she shows up at his house and they are somehow in love. Oh, wait. I guess thats just how Wayne rolls though, because he then fell in love with catwoman (who was throwing off some lesbian vibes) after having spent literally 15 or so minutes of his entire life with her.
but the ending made me walk out happy, i did get a little giddy like a school girl when she said his name was Robin.
also, if ledger had been alive, i think he would have been in place of Scarecrow as the judge, there is an episode of Batman the Animated Series where he is just that - judge of a criminal ruled court:
that would have been unbelievably awesome in my mind

Just got back. Heres my take on it (and responses to comments in here)...
I dont understand the griping about a lack of connection to TDK. Just because the Joker wasn't named specifically, but that movie wasn't about the Joker. It was about Harvey Dent and what he meant to Gotham. The Joker was the best part of that movie and what made it #1 of the trilogy, but he was a plot device just like the bomb. They made it very clear that after Harvey Dent died they made the Dent Act or whatever so Batman hung it up. I'm glad they went that way with it because it made the 2nd movie matter.. what Batman and Gordon did with Two Face's death was worth something, they traded Batman for strong legal means to take criminals down.
Catwoman was good. Glad they never specifically called her by that name though. Considering shes one of my least favorite characters in the batman universe I thought she was enjoyable.
JGL's character arc was great. I'm definitely glad they decided to flat out call him Robin rather then just have him finding the cave.
Bane was ehh... I thought his voice was too high pitched. He was a good brute though.
My wife (who doesn't know much about batman) said "He is really bad at fighting". I told her Batman wasn't a fighter, he was a detective who out smarted his opponents... she responded he that he didn't really do that either, and she was correct. For the most part he didn't really do much in the way of thinking, he just kept throwing himself at Bane while those around him did the thinking.
And the scarecrow cameo was A+++. 7/20/2012 11:30:37 PM |
