i pictured him the same way.

and jenna malone as johanna - i love jenna malone so i'm on board but again not how i pictured her in my head.

i pictured her more like a busty, full lipped, scarlett johansson type. obviously not with scarlett playing her, but that type. but i also could have seen someone like emma stone in that role. actually i think i like my emma stone idea better upon further reflection.

though i really like them casting lesser known/famous actors in these movies

i agree - i saw more of a Brooklyn Decker-type (not actually Brooklyn Decker but definitely her features - tall, thin, beautiful, blond hair).

maybe I need to go back and re-read, but I didn't get the impression Johanna was model-like in beauty, I came away that she was a bit more punk / non-traditional

^^ oh definitely.

^ i think i saw her as a badass but one that was also really gorgeous. kind of weird but i enjoy reading what other people think in how they saw characters.

Agreed with CassTheSass on Johanna, it was regularly talked about how she would just strut around naked because she knew she was hot.

In my head I had a much stronger/more athletic person in mind. Maybe something more like Pink or Hope Solo...neither of these people are what I'm thinking exactly, but definitely more in that direction

Maybe Gina Carano...

I've never seen anything she's been in...she just looks the part in my head, kind of

for the record, I immediately attributed Brendan Gleeson as to what Haymitch looked like. Throughout all the books he was the first image that came to my mind every single mention of him and the most obvious of all the characters. Possibly because he played Hamish is Braveheart

not sure. i know some typically aren't released at the same time, so maybe they had a special agreement? i dunno.

the darn box itself had katniss' face all over it

I found it on the Red Box!!!

I think employees just buy the DVDs and stock them in the boxes. That's why you don't have to wait 28 days anymore

I'm debating whether or not to buy it on DVD or wait til we get a Blu-ray and a decent TV. If/when that ever happens.

^^ The 28 days thing only applies to some studios. It's mostly the really big studios from what I know (Warner Bros, Disney, 20th Cent. Fox, Universal, etc.) I think one of them even has a 56 day delay. LionsGate, which tends to release movies that are a little more off the beaten path, releases to redbox the same day as retail. Probably because it increases exposure for their movies.

i just finished watching this. it wasn't nearly as bad as i was expecting (at least according to what my friends said). pg-13 really hurt it, though.

I thought it was pretty violent for a pg-13 so if they had gone with an R it probably would have been awesome

Just watched it for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. I missed some of the Katniss inner dialogue though from the books. Other than that, I thought it was pretty good.

the inner dialog is just hard to get across unless you have a narrator or hear her thoughts.

a really good actor can pull of some things without words, but still. I thought the same thing about the girl with the dragon tattoo movies.

also Woody wasn't much of a drink. Haymitch is pretty much shit face for the first 3/4s of the book.

When I saw it in theatres I agreed with this, but at third watch at home I think they did an ok job addressing hunger in the opening shot of the district. Could have it been better? Hell yes. But the message was there.

Worst being the main characters were all so well fed looking.

^^and that was hilarious

So it just takes three viewings before you notice the hunger in the hunger games.

^^exactly!

No I admit I was way too excited at the first screening to find any fault in it. The second screening I was more into hoping I'd make it through shaky cam now that I wasn't sitting in the 5th row.

I didn't watch it in theaters, so that's probably why, but I didn't notice the shaky camera thing at all.

Some people just don't notice shaky cam. I find it distracting, like I'll often be the only person that notices when they do it on TV shows.

I still haven't seen the movie to see how bad it is. I planned on waiting for the DVD. I hear it's real shaky in the beginning but not toward the end. That seems kind of backwards to me. I would have thought that the camera would be still when showing the poor, starving, hardly moving people in the district and then go into full shake mode when trying to convey the sense of urgent action when in the arena.

I hear it's the opposite? Go figure.
