TreeTwista10 still thought the Twins have Joe Nathan. I'm surprised he knows who Plouffe is.

It will be interesting to see how well the wild card "winner" does in the playoffs compared to the wild cards of the past. Gut shot reaction is that while it might make for a nice "hot at the right time" story, the way it'll fuck up the rotation will sink most of them.

http://mlb.sbnation.com/2012/7/13/3157349/mike-trout-matt-holliday-baseball-nicknames

Quote :
"We're talking Mike Trout, here. One of the most electric young talents in recent memory -- the perfect ballplayer. And his nickname is an alliterative thing based on his hometown? It's like a failed superhero from 1934, or an old-timey baseball nickname in a screenplay written by someone who has never watched a game of baseball in his life. Try harder, America. There's a lot counting on this."

haha, the guy's complaint about it is precisely what the nickname was meant to be and he's completely oblivious to the fact that it's yet another thing that originated from something awful (though, to be fair, how could he know?). SA's shadowy control over the internet never ceases to amaze me. the next step is ESPN mentioning it on air.

No it isn't. Only the Cubs-DBacks game is.

Every other game says this game will begin shortly. There are some irate people on those forums.

nope, sale was in the 21st round, then flipped 19th round colby lewis for cain and also got rid of a gonzo for freddie freeman in the same trade. greinke was drafted in the fif round by me

12-team, 26-man league and I'm in first place

life is good

apparently mike rizzo is no longer holding strasburg to 160 innings and is instead relying on the "eye test" or something and that the decision will be his alone to make. so i guess rizzo will arbitrarily decide when it's time to shut strasburg down, and he won't be allowed to pitch again til spring training. bleh.

good move, you can't shut a guy down when you're a legitimate contender.

i dunno, i got the impression that it still meant he'd shut down strasburg and that it would just be slightly less arbitrary than 160 innings. although, an eye test is kind of even more arbitrary. maybe i'm wrong though.

i think the point is, if they're out of the playoff hunt, they'll obviously shut him down to preserve his arm long term

but if they have a legit shot to make a late post season run, they'll judiciously keep using their best pitcher (player) so they don't fuck up a possible World Series opportunity

even if they're not in the playoff hunt, which they most likely will be with the second wild card unless they completely tank, shutting him down in september probably wouldn't make much of a difference anyway because they aren't basing the decision on what his body can and can't take. so even doing it as a precaution isn't even really precautionary to anything. the whole narrative all year has just been a stupid talking point

I can't be the only one who remembers when he first came into the league and Sportscenter did a feature on him that featured a little Asian kid screaming "IIIIIIIIICHHIIIIIRROOOOOOOO" throughout the piece

that fucking voice has been stuck in my head for 12 years now

Ill take what detroit got all day. Ask any detroit fan how high they were on turner. He still has serious control problems

We get a decent 2B finally and a solid #3-#4 starter. If he is our #4, he may be the 3rd best 4th starter in mlb.

The acquisition of infante is huge. Both offensively and defensively he is lightyears better than the fucktard combo of worth/raburn/santiago
