Bottomline is most of us didn't expect a win, but it sucks for that Underwood TD to be called out of bounds...I'd be fine with a loss if that were called a TD and they outplayed us after that...but either way, we lost, so hopefully we'll step our game up next week 9/19/2013 10:56:01 PM |

Thomas isn't going to lose us games, problem is he isn't going to win us any either and we need more than a game manager.
He is college Alex Smith. 9/19/2013 10:57:09 PM |

He's better than Jay Davis. Game managers in college are okay, we just need a better running back (or to give Shadrach more carries) and better playmaking WRs (I think we've got some young ones).
That missed call sucked, but I'm really okay with this result...ESPECIALLY after the Richmond game. 9/19/2013 11:04:14 PM |

well we can keep pretending he isnt mediocre but eventually you need to throw a damn TD pass
in the red zone you cant get away with throwing a bunch of smoke passes or slow developing crossing routes which is why our offense sputters the closer we get to the end zone 9/19/2013 11:09:04 PM |

not quite next-level-good enough to outplay bad game-changing calls.
i can live with that i guess.
feel like that twenty-whatever play drive was a #MORALVICTORYgoodthinggoingforward
i was getting really frustrated that ESPN would never show replays of all the false starts. some of them seemed extremely iffy. and that bizarre delay of game call where the ref like... ran in and stopped the play before the play clock ran out and our players shrugged incredulously...........
[not blaming the loss on the refs. our running backs besides thornton were pretty miserable. dayes and creecy completely ineffective. and like someone else said Thomas seems to tuck and run way too early but who knows what the deal is there.] 9/20/2013 12:38:35 AM |

Again, I need not be a conspiracy theorist to say we got jobbed. There's BCS money on the line here for the ACC. Clemson winning tonight was important for the ACC. Important enough to potentially cost us millions.
I was at the State GTech basketball game earlier this year when the refs favored us. Again, refs' bias according to what is best for the ACC( like NCAA tournmanent seeds?)

Was at the game last night with a pretty good view of the field from the lower level. WTF was up with the false starts? 75% of the time I didn't see any movement, but I didn't have the benefit of TV to be sure. 9/20/2013 7:28:16 AM |

None of us had the benefit of a replay, so we are in the same boat
overall I'm pretty excited today for the rest of the season. Our defense looked like a team that could stand up to tough competition and pur offense occasionally looked like it knew what it was doing. We looked a lot better than I thought we would at this point, so I'm looking forward to the next game. 9/20/2013 8:16:17 AM |

Definitely pumped about the defense. Was expecting them to be tired and get blown out in the 2nd half...and although they gave up some points, they still looked solid. Maybe it's because they go up against our "hurry up" (it wasn't that fast) offense in practice??
Either way...d-line is solid, linebackers were good enough, and secondary isn't horrible. Hopefully they can keep it up. 9/20/2013 8:23:44 AM |

same here. i almost want to go back and watch it on tv to see if i can figure out what they were calling half the time, but that's pointless. there was lots of booing at the refs, especially after the miscalled out of bounds play.

I know it stood because the ref called him out live and I presume it was the line judge, how far from the play is he?

Which while I'm not about to say the ACC fixed the game or conspired with the refs to give them favorable calls, conferences controlling referees needs to stop and there should instead be one central refereeing body nationally that makes the assignments.9/20/2013 9:26:18 AM |

^what I remember was the line judge is right in front of him, maybe 10 yards downfield on that .gif, in really good position IMO. The Line Judge was right next to Underwood as he ran into the endzone and he signaled a touchdown. I'm actually not sure who called the play back. That's how I remember the replays last night, but I also had some wonky dreams last night about this game.
edit:
I think it was actually the Field Judge/Side judge that I saw on the replays and signaled the touchdown. The line judge should have been upfield of Underwood, correct? If that's the case then I don't remember seeing the LJ during replays.

The judge trailing underwood made the call. He was 10 yards back and his view was partially blocked by the defender. The other officials down field and with clearer lines of sight signaled TD.
ESPN article by one of the blog gals said the coordinator of officials got up to go look at the play and never came back.
