Not really, because if he was a Belgium national the fake passport doesn't help him move more easily.

Same with threats to the US, someone can fly to the US with a Belgian passport with much less scrutiny than a refugee receives

Trump would not rule out warrantless searches in his plans for increased surveillance of the nation’s Muslims, Yahoo reported Thursday.

He also remained open toward registering U.S. Muslims in a database or giving them special identification identifying their faith, the news outlet added."

This seems consistent with the Constituion and a small government type of thing.

Feels pretty weird living through these times. I legitimately feel like I understand what some Germans must have felt like living through the rise of Hitler... never thought it would become so easy for mainstream, leading politicians to blatantly scapegoat a group of people and not be called out on it, but rather have a (slim) majority of people supporting them.

Also explains the nuttiness surrounding Japanese internment.

I could seriously see a large portion of American "conservatives" supporting Hitler reincarnate with a new name and the moustache trimmed.

All he needs to do is talk about how awesome guns are, spread his love for Jesus, promise to save the economy, and decry if he were leader of America #1 we'd all be safe from the turrists. Add an American flag pin and veteran status and he'd be set!

Cato is a libertarian think tank (one of the more moderate, pragmatic ones in my opinion)...so yes, some overlap with conservatism, but not so much on social issues, and less and less overall, I'd guess.

and yeah, WTF Trump?

Hahaha, man I hope that dude wins the GOP nomination. I think that would finally be enough to shatter the GOP and allow for a reboot.

A soft drink can, a detonator and switch were all that was needed to down a Russian plane, Daesh claims. (Reuters)

Daesh releases picture of bomb it says downed Russian plane

Quote :
"ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published — Thursday 19 November 2015

CAIRO: The Daesh group has released a photo of the bomb it says was used to bring down a Russian passenger plane in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula last month, killing all 224 people on board.

The picture was published in the latest issue of the extremist group’s English-language magazine, with the caption “EXCLUSIVE — Image of the IED used to bring down the Russian airliner.”

The picture showed a yellow can of Schweppes Gold, a non-alcoholic beer marketed in Egypt, and what appeared to be other bomb components made of plastic and metal. It also published a picture of what it said were passports belonging to people who died in the plane crash.

The extremist group, which has a powerful affiliate in the Sinai, had previously claimed to have downed the plane, which was mainly carrying Russian tourists without offering further details. It said the attack was to avenge Russia’s air campaign against the group in Syria.

Russia’s FSB security service said Tuesday that a bomb brought down the plane. Most of those onboard were Russian tourists. Western officials had earlier said they suspected a bombing.

Egyptian authorities have declined to comment on what caused the crash, saying a multi-national investigation is still underway."

^^ that was a good read. I had speculated here a while ago that Isis and Alqaeda view the U.S. Military as a Christian entity, I didn't realize this was literally the case. I also thought it was well known that Isis's main target was other Muslims, but the author was surprised by that.

This is awesome.

Opposition rebels make a high production value video with all the cinematic effects and similar to ISIS videos. They parade out captured ISIS dogs all chained together in orange prison suits, while the rebels are wearing all black outfits with their faces covered, exactly like ISIS does with captures rebels or Syrian soldiers

They make them kneel down, pronounce their crimes in front of them, take out knives to decapitate them, and then after a pause, sheath their knives and take off their masks and walk away.

Video: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3350691/Muslims-not-criminals-Syrian-rebel-force-ISIS-fighters-knees-let-live-dramatic-mock-execution-video.html

Islamic State oil trade 'worth more than $500m'

Quote :
"The so-called Islamic State (IS) has made more than $500m (£330m) trading oil, a US treasury official has said.

Its "primary customer" has been the government of Syria's President Bashar al-Assad, despite its ongoing battle to overthrow the regime, Adam Szubin told the BBC.

IS had also looted up to $1bn from banks in territory it held, he said."

They should have their own state. Iraq as a country needs to be dissolved or there's just going to be more sectarian and ethnic conflict if/when it is stabilized. It's pretty much inevitable.

The last thing the Middle East needs is more states based on ethnic groups. If anything comes out of this it should be the idea that they shouldn't be killing their own neighbors for religious reasons and the ability to unify as a society.

Self determination is kind of a core principle. You can't force a state to exist, abandon said state to its own devices and then expect peace. It has never worked anywhere it was tried. Look at the clusterfuck that is post colonial Africa if the current state of the middle east isn't enough to prove it, or look at post USSR eastern Europe and the Balkans.

I suppose you're against a Palestinian state as well?

Only comment is this.

The only people saying to divide up Iraq by religion are westerners. Every time I've read a quote from someone local to the area they never think its a good idea.

At the very least, the people who crave power want all of Iraq and not just the part that sides with them.

Also, the entire reason ISIS came into Iraq so quickly is that the Sunni's don't have nearly as much oil as the Shia and Kurds. They were getting marginalized by Maliki's goverment without the power of oil money to make up for it. Divide Iraq by these religions and the Sunni's lose all leverage and resort to violence(ISIS) to gain leverage. They will fight before becoming irrelevant.

I mean, there are definitely some insane, true believer types for whom that is the major driving factor. Holy jihad is undoubtedly a driver for a not insignificant portion of those joining ISIS.

Did you see how many of them left once they cut pay to all soldiers in half? People who are disenfranchised, marginalized by their surroundings, angry, mental health issues. Those are the core base reasons for wanting to slaughter people. It's justified by religion. It's a important component for sure. But if you want a state of Islam you can't have only religious radicals. You need normal populations.

My biggest question is why aren't we equipping these guys more? I feel like this is the opposite of Vietnam. The south Vietnamese couldn't fight worth shit and we gave them everything. Now we have a group that can, and we give them nothing but a few airstrikes.

Part of it is we're trying to respect Iraq's sovereignty by not unilaterally arming an outside group fighting on their dirt. We do give plenty of weapons to Iraqi central command earmarked for the Kurds, but it's basically out of our hands if they ever get to them.
