i dunno...seems doubtful since he already transferred, sat out a year and used a redshirt year last season. since he wasn't injured last year i doubt they'd grant him an extra year but i'm not sure

I think this is the year we cant put things together enough to sneak into the dance. The next step for Gott is to get us to a point where we aren't wondering if we are gonna make the dance every year but rather more about seeding with the occasional bubble year. Henderson getting hurt clearly has been a problem. Hopefully Rowan being forced into playing time will benefit us in the future. Abu has probably been the biggest disappointment so far this year we need him to turn it around or its gonna be a long year in the ACC.

^^he only has to fix the attrition problem to get us there. Its really that simple because Hes a good game coach and good recruiter. The relationship aspect associated with program building is the only problem.

For example anya was on espn with jay williams at the start of the season and was asked "whats one thing your coach doesnt know about you". His response on national tv was "my coach knows nothing about me."

I'm not hitting the panic button quite yet, but with Henderson out a bit longer than initially though, Caleb Martin not shooting near the way he was to start the year, Rowan's wild inconsistency, and the play of our front court so far I'm not overly optimistic about us making the NCAA's this year unless our defense improves down the stretch in the way it did last season.

I thought with the losses of Turner/Lacey/Washington our offense would take a hit, but that we had the pieces to be a really solid defensive team and that the offense would improve as the year went on. So far our defense has been really poor and outside of Cat we don't have much of an offense to speak of either.

We almost lost to one of the worst teams in the country in UNCG +300s. Tonight is big for us. Would be our best win so far. Will be telling to see how our team responds.

Hasn't Abu had, like 4 straight double doubles? I mean, I know that we were hoping for him to be a bit more effective offensively, but for a guy just starting his Sophomore season, I think he is progressing pretty well. I really expect to see his game jump another level in early February, similar to Cat last season.

I think Abu just started slower than expected, but he's improved here as of late.

Not sure he's going to have the light turn on quite like Cat did, but if he could give us a solid scoring option inside, that would help a ton.

In a vacuum, Abu's stats are fine, and he's progressing. But this is a team that could desperately use some scoring from its frontcourt, and I think everyone thought Abu would be more a force. He's got a good jumper and he's athletic as hell ... just can't seem to score consistently for some reason. Maybe it's a lack of touches down low.

I'm also starting to worry Caleb's awesome shooting at the start of the year was an aberration and that he was playing out of his mind. Hopefully this slump isn't him just returning to form.

Thats basically what I was thinking when I said disappointment. I didnt expect Anya or Freeman to do much on offense but I was expecting Abu to give us frontcourt scoring more consistently after showing flashes last year. Hopefully he gets it going as we will need it. Otherwise they are just gonna double Cat and see if anyone else can beat us.

As I mentioned earlier, every lay-up/put-back that Abu puts up seems to bounce around the rim before dropping (or missing), none look easy. I hold my breath every time.

So we are probably better than BC, but other than that we might be the worst team in the ACC. Both GT and Wake look much better than us, VT just beat us, and Clemson at least tries to play defense so that have that going for them. Every other team will be a Vegas favorite to beat us regardless of location:

UNC, Duke, Syracuse, Louisville, Virginia, Miami, FSU, ND, Pitt.

Going to be a long season. I see maybe 5 ACC wins, possibly 6 with one of our typical upsets. NIT not likely. Hoping Henderson is some kind of god in order to save the season. What a shitastic sports year for State while UNC under massive NCAA cloud could have banner years for both football and basketball

It's a prediction based on what we've seen so far. Maybe Henderson returns and makes us a much better team. I'd put $20 lafta bucks on us winning 6 or less ACC games at this point. Our schedule sucks and our team is dysfunctional.

at first, calls for 5 or 6 wins sounded extremely absurd until i just took a long look at the schedule and only found 6 easy games. It all comes down to henderson.

Looks like Rowan might be the next in our line of shooters that are terrible at defense. First Wood, then Turner, now Rowan??? Although his just seems to be due to lack of foot speed instead of not being in the right place. Hope he starts hitting some threes to try and make up for it.

Nah, he routinely isn't in the right place. He makes it harder on the other 4 players on the floor because he is routinely out of position on defense. He has to play limited minutes in ACC play if we want a chance to stay in games.

We will have some WTF wins like against Louisville this Thursday and some disturbing loses. Once we get Henderson back we will be much more consistent and make it until the NCAAT due to the bad loses being with Henderson out. We will make it to the second round and then that's the end of the season. I'm calling it now.

The lost to VT means nothing, remember that year Syracuse went undefeated for a long time and lost to BC? Remember that year when Miami won the ACCs but lost to GT on at last minute tip in? Our ceiling in the ACC is 50-50 and think we somehow pull it out +/- about 10%. SHitty teams beat good teams all the time in college basketball, that's what make sit so exciting and frustrating. Since we're not even a good team its no surprise.

^ It means something if we manage to get back on the bubble. Having multiple bad losses is terrible on a resume. It means something if we finish the season 8-10 in the ACC as that looks a lot worse than 9-9 on the eye test.

We are basically fucked unless we do a 180 this season. We need Abu to play up to his potential, Caleb to get good again, and Henderson to be a god and return soon.

It's also bad because there's no way in hell we should have lost. We gave it away with missed FT's and bad defense -- especially the pick-and-roll d at the end of the regulation. (Why not just foul there?).

That said, I think we'll be fine if Henderson can come back soon at full strength. The team has pieces -- just needs a quality guard who can shoot, score, and defend. We have exactly one guard in the rotation, and he's playing point.
