As a green party member, I believe that the green party will rise over the next 20 years and the gop will become libertarian. In 20 years we might see a libertarian/tea party, a democratic party shifting to the left, and a 3rd green party becoming slightly influential.

The real question is does the GOP embrace the libertarian movement or do you see a schism of the current GOP led by trump and whatever the establishment becomes and a truly conservative and libertarian branch led by cruz or paul.

The current global system can't survive another 50 years. I'm guessing that within 20 years, this will start to beome obvious to the mainstream due to major disastrous events associated with climate change, other environmental degradation, population growth, automation, and panama paper type events. The difference is that the entire population will be on social media and blame will be directed at the current system and not any false scapegoat.

I don't think the party system is dead. Both parties are going to learn from their mistakes and try to prevent them in the future. The Republican party allowed too many candidates to run, weakening support for the most reasonable candidates and allowing the loudest to get heard. The Democrats had the opposite problem. They had too few good candidates and seemed to be afraid of each one.

Many Republican candidates should have waited this one out:

Rubio
Cruz
Jindal
Carson
Walker

They all would have had a better shot at a later election, but for some retarded reason, decided to waste time and money this go-round. I just don't get it. Maybe Carson wants Surgeon General. Cruz should go to the Supreme Court to take Scalia's place (replace one brilliant nutjob with another).

It is popular for people to think that in Reddit circles but in the real world I highly doubt many Bernie supporters vote for Trump. He would shit all over a lot of what they actually believe if you take him at face value.

I'd never vote for him because of his horrible personality alone, but he may pick up a small portion if he keeps this up.

He's a jackass but he's not dumb. He knows he has to do what every politician in history has done and run more towards the center in the general vs. the primaries.

I doubt many people saw it or listened this morning, but he actually said a lot of very logical stuff about the economy and monetary policy this morning on CNBC. I don't agree with his proposed policy solutions (more import taxes and tariffs for example) but he isn't wrong about what many of our fundamental problems are.

This is as much a general question as it is a Trump one, but concerning the old "primary is a run to the right/left, general is a run to the center"...to what extent is that really as possible any more with today's unprecedented accessibility to anything a candidate has ever said?

Romney was absolutely haunted by one single comment he made at a private event where someone caught him saying something not even so crazy controversial on a cell phone.

Is Trump really going to be able to walk back all the shit he's said when the world's going to continue to play it constantly 24/7? Hillary won't even have to debate the Trump in front of her, she can just keep debating what he's already said

Well, considering Trump hasn't really said much of anything policy wise it won't be too hard. I imagine he can't and won't try to walk back stuff on immigration, but outside of that he hasn't really presented many actual policy statements that I can think of. He did a good job speaking in generalities and not boxing himself in.

the only way I see Clinton losing is if there's some smoking gun (email indictment) or video taped evidence like what was used against Romney. otherwise, the electoral college is set up for her to take the election pretty easily. you need women, blacks, and hispanics to win these days and Trump won't get any of their votes. in fact, these groups of voters will go out in droves just to ensure he doesn't win.

I also think you'll be surprised at the female vote. I don't think it will be as devastating to Trump as you think.

I've yet to meet a woman who prefers working with women over men. I think this same mindset will come to play, at least a little, when voting for a presidential candidate. Sure, many women will remember the awful things he's said, and the Hillary campaign will try their best to drill it into everyone's mind, but the wives of working class men who have lost jobs, etc, will put that before Trump's views on women.

As far as the black vote goes, I bet it will be a toss up.

And of course the Hispanic vote is default for Hillary.

Hell, Trump even advocated for a convicted rapist (Mike Tyson) to not go to jail, or at least to have his sentence reduced, and he essentially blamed it on the woman that was raped. But I still doubt that it will have a big affect on the female vote.
