I think Charlie Hegedus might be one of most important pick-ups of this class:

I think it's a Jr college. I think he committed to us a few years ago and found out he had to go to JUCO. but he got looks from some other schools out west and back east.

Only difference between Amato and Butch is that Amato didn't cheat to get the players here...that we know of. That's not a knock on Amato, because I think that shit goes on everywhere.

But Amato chased stars and skill players. We had killer running backs, WRs, and blazing DBs while he was here. But we couldn't protect the QB for shit and had many other highly rated players that fell well short of their hype. With Amato, hype came first. He eventually FAILED at putting together good teams. He was blessed with Rivers or else I doubt he would have lasted even close to as long as he did.

And you look stupid for defending a guy just because he was an alum. If you can't cut it, you can't cut it...I don't care where you went to school. These guys get paid too much to get cut any slack. Good luck to Amato and Lowe, but thank god they aren't here anymore.

Nice story about Owino:

http://www.gopack.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/020112aao.html

Quote :
"In Sanderson's first scrimmage against Harnett Central, Owino tallied six sacks and another tackle. Much to his amazement, he went from not knowing how to even put on his uniform, to being recruited by major college programs....
Owino says he chose NC State "because I felt it is the best place for me and I can feel the red and white in my blood." "

Seriously, I don't know where to begin with this.

Quote :
"He eventually FAILED at putting together good teams."

Amato had 2 losing seasons out of 7. He won 4 bowls during that time. To me, you have to be a good team to win bowl games.

He did have a hard time beating Carolina which got him in trouble with the fanbase but overall won some big games. He helped build the facilities that currently help recruit our players TODAY. He tried to get big talent and succeeded (sort of) but couldn't control them. He is no where near the character of a person like Butch Davis. He didn't try to steal recruits from other schools after they committed (that I know of). He didn't commit NCAA violation after violation and he did a lot of good things for this university THE RIGHT WAY. The fact that you are comparing him to Lowe, who's career record as a coach at State was 86-78, is mind blowing. Lowe never EVER had a winning ACC record or an NCAA tournament appearance. Lowe had 1 highly-touted recruiting class and could not train/coach them properly to be a winning team. Lowe was a disappointment but that's as far as I will take it. I don't need to take to the internet and trash former coaches to make myself feel better. We have enough dumb ass fans that do that for us on packpride.

Bottom line is Amato did a lot of good things for the university and should be, at the very least, remembered for being a decent coach that helped the program get back on its feet.

Quote :

He has legit 4.4 speed and should definitely be a valuable recruit.

As good as a recruiter as Amato was for us, he was slimy and very underhanded.
I'd have to look up the article again, but the best example I remember was that they set up a meeting with a high school to check out one recruit, but when they went there they completely ignored that kid and went after a 5 star who the coach designated as off-limits since he had already committed somewhere. He was banned from that HS afterwards.

We got a C+

Top prospect: Kenderius Whitehead (Lithonia, Ga./Martin Luther King), a DE/OLB hybrid, has the quickness off the ball and edge-rushing ability to contribute early in certain packages.

Breakdown: NC State lacks an ESPNU 150 prospect, but coach Tom O'Brien has proved throughout his career that he can build programs without them. The Wolfpack addressed needs up front defensively with Whitehead and fellow 6-foot-4 rangy end Tyler Knox (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach). Also keep an eye on Jarnor Jones (Lithonia, Ga./Martin Luther), who is a high-upside guy and could develop at safety or linebacker. The line and secondary were needs that were met, but this class lacks a significant quarterback to develop.

Did anyone hear Fedora talking about their recruitment of Junior Gnonkonde? Basically, he came to the US for an international basketball tournament, and he and a few other teammates just stayed, didn't get on the plane I think that's an immigration offense. #gavingrant

But the best part was when he said: "He spoke African or something". :thatsracist:

It's not a flashy class, but it will make NC State better, and the Wolfpack are already a team worth watching in the 2012 ACC race."

from an article on how Summers switched. We really need to have both sports in the top 25 consistently. that's how you pull in the in=State guys that grew up watch college sports. if he would have been a State Bball fan no way he goes to UNCheat.

Are we actually good at protecting the QBs (in addition to run blocking)? Our guys get sacked a lot.

Chuckles brought in quite a few OL who played in the NFL - more than TOB while he has been here. We all know the defensive lines were good, too. It wasn't just skill players that he was good at recruiting.

Chuck's problems were staff turnover and not finding a Rivers replacement soon enough, which he did eventually in Wilson.

Summers wasn't going to get a fair shake that QB here, and he didn't like the honesty. They will tell him what he wants to here at UNC. Nothing more to it. It's not a big loss imo.

If you just look at QB depth, though, he probably does have a better chance there. They've got Renner, Williams, the other new guy, and him. And they're switching to a spread offense, so everyone is gonna be starting fresh.

We've got Glennon, Brosius, Taylor, and Stocker. And we're set up with our offense, so those guys (except Stocker) have experience in the offense over him.

So he could play earlier, although when you;re a QB that's not really a good position for a team to be in (starting a freshman QB).

Of course there's the whole NCAA thing, which overrules the whole depth issue as far as I care, but in terms of numbers, he's got less competition there.

^you're also forgetting pete thomas, who committed about the same time summers decomitted. Thomas was a 4* qb coming out of hs, with two years starting experience under his belt a csu (and holds the record for pass completions for a true freshman, over one of the mannings). he'll be redshirting this year, but very well could be our starting qb for two years after that.

right now, its definitely sad to see an athlete like summer leave us to go to UNCcheat. but ya gotta give this staff credit for long term decision making. e.g. - 9 months ago almost all of us thought that letting RW go was bad for long&short term. I think few would argue the long part now after seeing the team gel around MG at the end of the season.
