I think Summers would have gotten a "fair shake"... but he'd probably be beaten-out by the depth that we have, and i imagine tob was honest with him about that, and told him that he was more likely to see the field as a safety or wide receiver. That's just how I think it went down.

"^you're also forgetting pete thomas, who committed about the same time summers decomitted. Thomas was a 4* qb coming out of hs, with two years starting experience under his belt a csu (and holds the record for pass completions for a true freshman, over one of the mannings). he'll be redshirting this year, but very well could be our starting qb for two years after that."

right now, its definitely sad to see an athlete like summer leave us to go to UNCcheat. but ya gotta give this staff credit for long term decision making. e.g. - 9 months ago almost all of us thought that letting RW go was bad for long&short term. I think few would argue the long part now after seeing the team gel around MG at the end of the season.

TOB basically confirms this in his post-NSD conference:

probably the wrong thread, but i didn't see a general recruiting topic thread

pretty sleazy: its being insinutated that Georgia and Florida head coaches attended a top 5* LB's grandfathers church and donated considerably to the collection plate.

Damn, didnt even think about UNC switching to a spread offense. We always get DESTROYED by spread offenses, and their pro style offense could never score on us.

That's not good. If UNC goes from scoring 10 points a game to 40 points a game I don't see how we'll keep the streak alive.

We've never stopped anyone with a spread offense before... Cincy, USF, Wake, Duke... hell even some D1-AA schools

We got beaten by GA Tech who runs a triple option spread. We destroyed Clemson who also runs a spread and we beat VA as well. I'm not concerned about the spread offense AT ALL. It's a popular thing right now in college football but I don't consider it a major threat when most schools that run it end up being no better or worse than teams that don't. Most of the time they can't sustain continued success with it. NC State has had issues with defending a spread option but overall, it isn't our kryptonite by any means.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4327427

Clemson: Spread
Georgia Tech: Triple-option spread
Virginia: Spread

Louisiana-Monroe: Spread option
Middle Tennessee: Spread pass
North Texas: Spread pass
Troy: Spread pass

Utah State: Spread

I bolded the teams that I consider to be operating the spread successfully.

Several of those have not really had sustained success. The percentage of good teams to bad isn't really favoring that the spread is a highly successful offense.

A lot of the schools that have switched coaches/offensive coordinators.

For example, Virginia (a team that has switched to a power running pro-style offense you highlighted as successful use of the spread).

In the ACC, UNC and Maryland have switched to versions of the spread (UNC in concept, with the hiring of their new coach) with coaching changes. Wake runs a lot of spread. VT uses it more but probably not 75% of their offense.

UVA runs a pro style offense.

I'm not going through every conference.

I could have sworn that Virginia ran a modified spread pass on us when we played them. Either way, I didn't see that the article was 3 years old but most of those teams still run the spread or a modified version of that. I didn't include UNC because they didn't run the spread last year. I completely forgot about VT. I thought Wake ran more of a modified I.

http://www.technicianonline.com/sports/acc-teams-specialize-in-different-types-of-offense-1.2641943#.Tyx9JMUS29U

Either way, I still don't consider the spread offense a giant threat to NC State or to defenses in general. Some teams do it really well but most are no better than teams running a Pro-Set. That was my entire point.

Mike Archer is a bigger threat than the spread.

Yeah, if I were a betting man, I wouldn't wager on him ending up here in a years' time. More power to him if he makes it work and can get his act together, but after leaving the SEC, ECU, and a junior college, it seems like qualifying would be a big hurdle.

Well if things keep going the way they are, Glennon might be getting a shot at LB this spring.

Looks like he's at Fayetteville State:

Anyone know if there's any mutual interest with Leesville Road's 2014 WR/DB Braxton Berrios?

Quote :
"After posting a 99.15 SPARQ rating at last year's Charlotte Nike combine, Berrios boosted that mark by 20 points thanks to a combine-best 3.90 20-yard shuttle, a 39.3-inch vertical jump, 37-foot power ball throw and 4.60 40-yard dash. Berrios has yet to receive his first offer but is already hearing from Oregon, Tennessee, Arkansas, South Carolina, Penn State and Ohio State.
