Harrow played in the "It Takes 5ive adidas Classic" last weekend

3 days [old]
Quote :
" Ryan Harrow (Atlanta Celtics)- Harrow's slight frame is still a concern defensively is one on one isolation situations, but we are beginning to like his potential for being a pesky defender. He has quick hands and instinct and appears to be making more of a concerted effort on that side of the ball. Offensively, there really isn't much of a question concerning his ability. His elusiveness with the ball makes up for a lack of strength, and his athleticism and body control make him a high level playmaker."

Looks like Harrow is back to form, dropping 35 points and 7 assists, and then 28 points and 10 assists on the AAU circuit. In former player news, McCauley had an impressive showing in the NBA Summer league last night with 24 points and 15 boards, hopefully a team will end up signing him.

Costner, Fells, and McCauley could actually be better suited for the NBA game. By that I mean their skill set, not their athleticism. The NBA is actually a slower game overall than what they normally saw in the up tempo ACC. The NBA game is more about precision and isolation, while the college game is usually more about having the best athletes. Of course you need athleticism to hang around in the NBA and their overall lateral quickness may be what holds them back.

Yeah, I'd probably go with almost a complete 180 there.

To me the college game is more about getting players to buy in to your system. UNC wasn't a terribly athletic team this past year at all. Nor were the great Duke teams. But they did play in systems that suited their players.

I've heard numerous players say that the NBA game is actually slower than the college game. Obviously this doesn't apply to teams that like to slow it down like Wisconsin. UNC was very athletic last year. They are every year. A lot of people underestimate Hansbrough's athleticism, but he can run the floor very well. They push the ball every year.

I don't think this is true at all. There are plenty of NBA teams that run halfcourt offensive sets, sure, but there are plenty of teams in college that do that too...the difference being that in the NBA you have to run them in 24 seconds instead of 35 in college. There are also uptempo teams that push the ball in the NBA as well (the Knicks under D'Antoni come to mind). I do agree that UNC was pretty athletic last year though.

Yeah I like watching D'Antoni's teams play, but it always seems like they need some defensive coaching.

But UNC really wasn't really an overly athletic team. Ellington is athletic but it doesn't really translate on the court. Lawson is obviously quick and athletic.

But Hansbrough, Green, Thompson, etc aren't traditionally athletic guys. They each knew their role though and played it to perfection. Compare those guys to Terrance Williams or Sam Young... that is athletic.

All I know is that someone better spill the god damn beans on what happened with him at Centennial. From what it sounds like, there was a misunderstanding to start out with, but now it sounds like he either can't pass a class to save his life or he is totally being fucked over. I want to know what happened so I don't make myself look like a dick trying to justify this to people and getting it wrong. This doesn't just happen to basketball recruits like this.

Jesus christ... this fucking blows.

Maybe where this smoke there is fire. I've heard rumors about this for months but was assured that it would never happen. Here come the excuses I'm sure.

This puts a damper on my expectations for this year to say the least...

This is just sickening. It would only be fitting if he became so good during his prep year that he jumps straight to the NBA afterwards and we wouldn't even see him hit this campus.

I'm finding it hard to get depressed about this

I mean, even with him here we were still looking at maybe 10th in the league this season.

As long as he gets to campus next year with Harrow, the outlook's about the same as before this news.

I felt like I got punched in the nuts when I first read it, but I'm over it now. All I know is that everyone who claims to be "in the know" said that even though he fucked up some himself, he was getting totally fucked over by Centennial but WORST CASE he would be here in august.

I just want to know what happened. There were rumors flying around that Wall, Cousins, Brown, etc wouldn't qualify. Brown happens to have the best reputation and best academic record of all 3 yet he's the one sitting home. Like I said...something isn't right. Maybe an appeal is in order?

i dont think you can appeal high school. i think he got fucked and it's over and done with. i'd love someone to blow the lid off it and spill the whole story as well. doesn't look like this will be our year to start making the tournament again. it's sad that i'm already ready to be satisfied with an NIT berth.

We are FUCKED. And I dont really care what happened, putting yourself in the position to have this occur counters any bullshit excuse.

I mean, ultimately it shouldnt matter bc the team was going to be avg at best next year anyway, with the real break out being Harrow's first or second year...but no, we are going to BLOW ASS next season and there will be an insane amount of pressure (justifiably) on Sid in 2011

It happens but certainly not with the frequency of football players.

Brandon Jennings immediately comes to mind.

another one I can think of is Jason Parker. Plus, those HS players that went straight into the NBA, half of them probably couldn't qualify.

I think the better question is how many players have not qualified and had it been due to something OTHER than ACT/SAT. I suspect it is far less common to not sufficiently meet HS graduation requirements than it is to not get qualifying test scores...

This sucks...

Dude he is just realistic like a few of us. He is a good poster.

I guess most of you think its a good think our best recruit isn't qualifying because it will allow Mays or someone else who is never going to be near as good as Brown to "develop" since you are all so optimistic.

Does this mean the pressure on Lowe is lessened? If not this season might be his last.

do you even read my posts? i'm super excited about football and sidney lowe has my full support.

but i'm really fucking tired of this whole positive attitude no matter what thing that has seemed to come from wolfpackhoops. what? lorenzo brown still hasn't qualified? dude he'll be here. oh he has to take summer classes? don't worry about it, worst case scenario he'll be here in the fall.

take a step back and look at what is actually going on, it's not all roses all the time.

I understand where you're coming from on WPH. You can't be positive all the time, and you can't be afraid to call a shitty situation like it is. But you're missing a very important point, and that is that it IS possible to look at the bright side no matter how bad things get.

Yes, rumors have persisted that Brown wouldn't qualify for some time now, but up until the weekend they were just that - rumors. WPH in particular has done a great job of talking directly to recruits to get the real deal. From what I've read it appears that most everyone around Brown is genuinely surprised this happened. As a result, I encourage you to either:

A) cite proof indicating brown was not expected to qualify (hence we all should have seen it coming), or

B) give it a freakin' rest. And if you can't keep quiet, then pull your bottom lip over your head and swallow. That should do the trick.
