http://dvice.com/archives/2009/07/fujifilm-real-3.php#more
Why does this camera have two lenses? Simple: Because you do, and Fujifilm's FinePix Real 3D W1 camera aims to take a photo "just as your eyes see it." The camera's 3D system is said to be the only one that can both snap pictures and record video in three dimensions — while never requiring you to wear silly glasses to view them properly. Nice.
It captures 3D pics via the two synchronized lenses married to a pair of CCD image sensors, with a proprietary processor "instantaneously" combining the data to create a single 3D image. Impressively, the system includes a 3x zoom, a fairly hard thing to integrate when you consider how precisely aligned the lenses need to be. The two lenses come in handy for 2D shooting, too, letting you capture a close-up and a wide span with the same shot, or getting two identical shots with different color tone.
That's all well and good, but how will those 3D pics and videos really look? Hard to say before the Real 3D W1 comes out in September (no price yet), but we're excited to find out.

have you played around with Nikon's D90?
im a nikon guy but both are very good cameras Cannon has superior HD video compared with the Nikon but both shoot HD video
some issues with the cannon:
Quote : | "If Canon had opted to recycle the better quality output 10MP sensor from the Canon EOS 40D and incorporate it into the Rebel T1i / ESO 500D we would have been more impressed with their new product direction.
By adding even more pixels without increasing the size of the sensor, Canon is pushing the resolution threshold of APS-C sensor technology and in our opinion has chosen to sacrifice on quality and practicality in favour of a marketing based decision.
There are a number of disadvantages associated with higher pixel density sensors. One important consideration is that you will want to invest in a higher end quality lens that can support the sensor's increased resolution capability. The simple rule is that if you invest in a higher-resolution camera you need a lens that offers sufficient resolving power, which generally means spending more.
The standard Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom kit lens for the Canon Rebel T1i does not qualify in this regard, delivering fairly poor image quality when used on a high resolution sensor (noticeable even when used on the 12.2 MP Rebel XSi). We would not recommend this basic zoom lens for use with the Rebel T1i, and would suggest investing in one of Canon's better zoom lenses like the Canon EF-S 17-85mm IS or the Canon EF-S 18-200mm instead.
Other issues related to high pixel density include; lower dynamic range, reduced high ISO performance, diffraction issues, and increased possibility of camera shake. When you consider that the extra resolution from a 15.1MP sensor provides minor gain in detail compared to a 12.3MP sensor to begin with, the disadvantages introduced by the 15.1MP sensor in the Canon Rebel T1i simply outweigh the gains.
DxOMark Sensor test results show that the Nikon D90 delivers better RAW sensor output compared to the EOS 50D, including improved colour depth, dynamic range, and high ISO capability.
Considering the Canon Rebel T1i features an almost identical sensor design to the EOS 50D, we do not expect to see much of a difference in the results once the DxOMark Rebel T1i ratings become available. " |
you might also see more "noise" with the 50D T1i compared to the 90D as the nikon's sensor has a higher signal to noise ratio
the D90 is faster and quieter and offers a more enhanced ergonomic layout than the T1i
if you have not at least held a nikon d90 you should. one of the main reasons i chose nikon over cannon was the way the cameras felt in my hands.

^ also, for about the same price new, in the nikon you're getting a camera with a top LCD and two finger-wheels, whereas the T1i has fewer controls and displays.
you really really should go get the cameras in your hands before you sink the money. you might find out that too many controls is intimidating and makes the learning curve harder. might be best to buy an older / entry level camera (nikon d40, canon 400d maybe) and plan to use it for a few months to get a feel for things. 7/23/2009 7:40:02 PM |
Wintermute All American 1171 Posts user info edit post |
If you're getting a new dSLR don't stress over the bodies, all the intro bodies would probably give you great pictures. You might also make a list of lens you want and compare the prices in both the Nikon vs. Canon catalog. I've had a dSLR for ~2 years and the cost breaks down as:
body+kit lens - $450 Sigma 10-20mm - $450 Canon 70-200mm f/4L - $500 Tamron 24-75mm f/2.8 - $350 Canon 50mm f/1.8 - $100*2 (I broke one) Total : $1950
I'm probably on the light side in terms of spending on optics on this forum but the point is that glass becomes the majority of your expense. My suspicion is Nikon's lenses are slightly more but I've never made an exhaustive comparison. With all this said, if I was beginning again I would seriously look at Pentax. 7/23/2009 8:40:53 PM |

Critique please. Is the light too harsh? I am using umbrellas with a black back. They are low voltage lights so I put them rather close to the subject but I'm wondering, is it too close? Other advice on anything you see that's awful would be nice too. I know there is sensor dust, good ol clone stamp...

I've tried softening the skin up a little bit.
I've never heard of a chin light before. Does it look that bad without it?? Should I pull the lights back or look into getting something to soften the light?
I used my 50mm and the fstop was at its lowest with the shutter speed being the fasted, it overexposed if I opened the aperture even just one stop more.

1. use diffusers to soften the light or tone down the power of the strobes
2. remove the stray hair from her forehead, it's distracting
3. i might crop a little closer to her head. the square crop looks odd.
4. wat?
Quote : | "I used my 50mm and the fstop was at its lowest with the shutter speed being the fasted, it overexposed if I opened the aperture even just one stop more." |
how would you over expose a shot when switching aperture from 1.8 to say 2 with the same shutter speed? the shot should be a bit underexposed. are you shooting on manual mode or aperture priority or what? i, personally, would shoot on aperture priority at around f/11 or so for studio portraits. you've got plenty of light for it. this would give you great sharpness and depth on the face. focus so the eyes are sharp.]7/24/2009 8:19:36 PM |
Kiwi All American 38546 Posts user info edit post |
I did it in manual and if I opened the aperture a little bit while keeping the shutter speed at its fastest it would slightly overexpose.
I'll try aperture mode next time to see what I get.
If I use umbrellas how should I diffuse it? Moving it back a lot further? I have the black sheet that is removable, should I remove them so it doesn't reflect as much? Should I shoot through the umbrella?
Oh and the strobes have an option of 240v or 120v...

Not sure what I can improve on in pp with this one...I did kick the red up a touch and decreased the brightness. It was an overcast day which I assume contributes to the blown-out appearance of the sky.
Same deal, just some minor cropping and brightness increase.

on the first one, i would: 1. try a pano crop to eliminate most of the blown out sky. i'd try and crop right under the horses feet and right above the lighthouse. i think it would work because you have a good lateral distance between the horses and lighthouse. you want the focus of the picture to be on the horses in the foreground rather than on your sky (which is drawing all my attention). plus your horizon splits the picture in half; i'd use the rule of thirds (2/3 foreground, 1/3 sky) 2. try using the selection gradient tool (kind of a digital ND filter) and select the foreground, then use the midtone (levels) slider to darken just that part of the photo to boost that up a bit. maybe boost the saturation just a hair in this area as well. i don't know, just a guess.
i'd boost the contrast a bit in the second one and burn (darken) the eye sockets in the skull. 7/24/2009 9:08:36 PM |

I ended up buying it.
I went downtown last night and took some decent pics after reading the manual once through. now that i know where everything is i just have to practice in fine-tuning, which seems to be the whole name of the game in photography.
I'm happy with the kit lens for now, but I know i'm going to be looking for more in the near future so I'm here to look for what you frequent photographers have to say on lenses. 7/25/2009 10:38:38 AM |
