Sweet. Just got a call for an interview later this week. Fingers now crossed.

Also, there is a cell of rain that is very small that seems to be just hanging out right over my house. I wanted to play tennis later but that's out now.

^^^^well I know that, and that's what they want me to do

but I still don't have a job, so I don't want to do anything with it right now...

this is the 2nd letter in a month that I've gotten from my former employer about it.

my post wasn't a question of me not knowing what to do, but a rhetorical question expressing my frustration.

I always thought that once you lose your job you have a certain amount of time to either roll your 401k into another employer's account (if you found another job that offers 401k) or into an IRA of your own. I didnt think you could just let your 401k sit and chill in your former employers 401k account. interesting...

I JUST moved mine into an IRA today. It's been about five months since I formally ended my last job and stopped contributing to my 401(k). I was told I could leave it in there still on the phone.

^^ me too. i think i will go get a sub, then study.

because i try to use food as a motivator and not let myself eat until i have studied but then i never get work done cause i just think about how hungry i am the whole time

and i haven't eaten lunch sooooo lunch/dinner sandwich here i come.

do you still have to have people bring you food due to immobility?

Yep, and I double checked just now. Sent an email to the person at work responsible and told her I'd just like to let it continue to sit...if there was an issue let me know. She immediately wrote back and said that was fine, and whenever I was ready to rollover let them know and they'll send me their paperwork again.

^and yeah, I've been getting the "no follow up" runaround as well. I'm used to it at this point. The most annoying was a job that found my resume online and sought ME out. Then I heard nada. wtf?

If I apply on like craigslist or hotjobs or whatever I don't even expect to hear back... I think I remember from where I used to work like 1 out of every 100 applications on those sites gets contacted at all even. It's pretty hopeless if you're running a job search like that.

My worst was taking a drug test and submitting to a background check and then having a hiring freeze be put on the week before I was supposed to start. How's that for some shit luck?

Suns out again! Time to do something athletic I guess...

yea - haven't really applied to anything off CL. but even w/ like government jobs and think tanks i RARELY hear back

but when i get rejection letters in the mail i feel like my efforts were at least kinda worth it - cause someone at least took the time to open my application to get my name and address to send me a rejection before just tossing it in the trash.

dude. it doesn't even matter. i don't know WHO these people are looking for

i tried to get a PT admin job this summer while i study and i wanted to work 10-20 hours a week and i applied to like 20. i heard back from 2 and ended up not interviewing because they both wanted at least a year commitment and i couldn't give that. but i was an admin assistant all through college AND after college before i started grad school

i can type at least 80 wpm and i'm pretty amazing at filing and answering a multi-line phone system and making coffee.

and they still don't want me. the ones that were JUST summer positions didn't even respond to my application.

so i don't know who they end up hiring

^^ Yeah, but you'll get a nice severance likely and be eligible for unemployment. That is, at the very least, a lower stress situation than I'm in voluntarily leaving my last job. Though it still obviously sucks. I am just thanking God that I have no loans to pay back and no real large debt to speak of.

I did get some good news for the first time in a long time. I have TWO interviews later this week and I have a whole group of people helping me out giving me leads at this point (they are probably just tired of hearing me bitch about it at this point to be honest ).

I actually already have my severance payment and my unemployment is going to cover like 80% of what I'm making now. I've already put my student loans on hold, I'm going to keep making payments though. Now I just need to figure out how to get paid under the table for freelance work; because that's what unemployment is about, fleecing the government.

yea the 700 and some odd dollars i'm going to have to pay every month toward my student loans is going to be awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

that is more than my mortgage payment

i would like to be 21 again please.

^ ahah. if anyone can fleece the government i'd put money on you
