I think pear shaped ladies look good in empire waist dresses, when they have smallish busts.
Having big boobs crammed in the top emphasizes the potential pregnant look. 4/6/2010 8:58:13 PM |

well i'm looking on ebay for maxi dresses as lucyinthesky suggested
and i've found good things
but i have a question
what does "misses" mean in sizing? like i found a maxi that is XS misses. i mean is that just another way of saying "womens"?
i always pictured as misses as where my mom shopped 4/6/2010 9:52:32 PM |

So, I was interested in the prenatal vitamins, after the conversation on the previous page. Apparently it may not be such a great idea, because it's too much iron. I was hoping I could get super awesome hair and nails!

Misses is actually like younger women's stuff. Less ease in the measurements - women's sizes have less difference between the bust/waist/hip measurements. At least that's how it works in sewing pattern sizing, so I'm guessing it's the same. 4/6/2010 11:37:21 PM |

old navy has 20% off each adult item purchased online today. even sale stuff, just FYI.
i got 2 of those jersey foldover skirts (good for just wearing on weekends to take walks, run errands, etc etc. easy to throw on with a tshirt).
and i got a pair of sandals that were on sale for 9.99 for like $7. i got them in yellow.
lots of underwears and stuff on sale. they have a lot of fugly stuff but i like their basic tees a lot (which are also on sale, sadly i already have like all the colors i wanted haha).
i ALMOST got this but i couldn't decide if i liked it or not and it seemed like something i needed to try on:
plus the one i really wanted was sold out. it was white on top and coral (solid) on bottom. but i dunno. since that stuff is cheapy made the white would have probably been see through. i just couldn't decide if i was in love with the stripes or not. it has pockets, too:

I really hate trying to find dresses to wear to weddings. I don't know the appropriate etiquette, style, or colors (other than white), and it's even worse after considering time of day. Is it unacceptable to buy one dress, and wear it to multiple weddings within the same family?
First wedding: I wore work pants and a bright shirt Second wedding: black and white skirt; forget what color shirt This wedding: no fucking clue. My failsafe is a hippie just-below-the-knee wrap skirt, color TBD (will stop in asheville to buy)
http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=450412&CategoryID=45325 I'm not crazy about the neckline detail, but I think this would look fantastic on me. This wedding: 4/17, 4pm, some catholic church in des moines, and a reception at a historic hotel, IIRC.
Then my sister graduates HS in may.
Aaaaaaaaaaaand is that too bright to wear to a funeral? My grandfather is on hospice now
I'm wondering how much use I can get out of this dress. I'm like 70% certain about buying it.
Other dresses under consideration: http://www.overstock.com/Clothing-Shoes/Tahari-ASL-Womens-Plus-Size-Lace-Dress/4709455/product.html (is black okay for a wedding? It's not alllllll black) http://www.overstock.com/Clothing-Shoes/Kiyonna-Womens-Plus-size-Sophia-Lace-Dress/4573159/product.html http://www.overstock.com/Clothing-Shoes/Kiyonna-Clothing-Womens-Plus-Size-Lace-Dress/4393022/product.html http://www.overstock.com/Clothing-Shoes/Kiyonna-Clothing-Womens-Plus-Size-Flaunt-Cocktail-Dress/4393026/product.html in blue http://www.overstock.com/Clothing-Shoes/S.L.-Fashions-Colorblock-Emma-Beaded-Plus-Size-Empire-Dress/4302836/product.html

I think that'd be fine for a 4pm wedding. Catholic Churches are usually more formal, than say, an outside wedding, but I think that will be formal enough. I'd also say it's fine for a funeral, especially if you pair it with a black cardigan.
I like it. (the first one you posted, haven't checked the rest).
Edit: I also like the "Flaunt" dress in blue. That would suit either occasion as well, and I just like the way it looks!

i like the first dress for a wedding and graduation
i personally think you could also wear it to a funeral. i mean it is black and the top IS a dark color. esp like ^ said with a a cardigan. but i think you can do with out, too
so that is at least 3 events for use!
I also like the flaunt cocktail dress in black or blue
and the lace dress is ok but only in the black on black ( i wasn't fond of the black/nude or the purple lace)

well the emma is pretty but that you definitely couldn't use for a funeral
and it is like perfect for a wedding but maybe over dressy for a graduation?
i think that the other dresses can be easily dressed up or down for whatever occasion you are going for! 4/7/2010 8:05:22 PM |

I think the Emma is too close to white for the wedding or funeral. I'm not sure what I don't like about the first one, I just didn't think it was the best option. Good price for a Tahari though.
I honestly think the Emma is pretty enough (and the review is great), just to make an occasion to wear it. I'm still iffy on the color. It would have to be much more tan than it appears in the picture to wear for a wedding.

Oh, my primary focus here is the wedding
I have PLEEEEEEEEEEEEENTY of clothes for a funeral, and skirts appropriate for graduation. The reason the skirts won't work for this wedding: one is black and white, with lots of white (and elephants!), and the other is a tan/neutral/olive with heavy sanskrit (I totally type sanskirt at first lol) influence. Not really something for des moines I'm hoping to pick up a blue/green or pink or red ..."safe" print in asheville, but in that same style.
I was just extrapolating the wedding dress as far as I could

ok people. i need help. grandmother's funeral is saturday in richmond. FIRST let me give you a run down of events before i show you the outfit choices
from 12-1 is the graveside service for family only (18-20 of us there) from 1-2ish is a memorial service for my mom at the church (i have NO idea if this is public or for family only or why we're even having this but whatever) 2:15 - whenever is my grandmother's service and i have to read a bible passage during it
so it is going to be a suck of a day. so here are the choices. ignore the shitty photobooth pics:
#1 black skirt suit bottom + cream blouse (or any other knit colored top you think would look good, i have about a million to choose from) + black heels
#2 dress i wore to my mom's funeral. black and white. self explanatory. black heels
#3 a black faux wrap dress with a tie on the side + black heels. faux because it doesn't actually wrap it just kinda crosses in the front and looks like it wraps
#4 black and white dress. ties on the side. faux wrap kinda.
#5 this pic sucks but its just a black sweater dress.
#6 another shitty pic. grey suiting dress. i feel like it needs a skinny black belt or something cause it is just so...grey.
and with all of these i'll end up with either pearl studs or silver studs and silver bracelet/jewelry
i know which one i'm leaning towards but i want to see what you guys think. i also have some other skirt/top combos but i'm too lazy to list those. PLEASE TO HELP thanks. i want to be able to ride in the car with it for 2 hours, then sit in it through this long ass day, plus i have to get up in front of a shit load of people and read something while probably crying or after crying and looking like shit, and then probably talk to a bunch of people i've never seen before after. i just want to look as cute as possible for this situation. *SIGH* thanks for the help 4/7/2010 9:20:59 PM |

I say either the one you wore to your mom's funeral or the faux wrap dress... I think the first option looks like you're going to a business luncheon
btw kadwackle, with the two Old Navy dresses you posted earlier... I have one and it's actually pretty well made for being only $15 when I bought it. It was the one I wore on NYE...

I prefer to wear all black for funerals. it also has a good neckline (not too boobalicious) and hemline (not too bootylicious).
I like #1 too, but didn't you wear that for your school pics? I wouldn't want to see people at a funeral and then send them a pic of me in the same outfit for an occasion that's supposed to be happy 4/7/2010 9:31:39 PM |

today ladies I wanted to share my stellar experience at `~*~` The Bra Patch `~*~`
I've been so bummed lately because my bras are to small but I haven't been able to find something that fits correctly. I finally made the time to go out there yesterday and when I walked in I told them I wasn't buying anything but I wanted to see some options and find out my size. The women there couldn't have been more helpful if they wanted. She got me measured, started grabbing stuff, adjusted it properly, and noticed very minor things about fit that I wouldn't have even noticed. If it didn't fit she would change sizes or lines and never seemed the slightest bit annoyed about it. I truly was blown away by their customer service especially since i told them I wasn't buying anything right off the bat. I found pretty, very reasonably priced bras, that fit me so well and left their happier then I have been in a while. I did buy one bra, plan on buying 2 more next week and have 2 more on order.
Moral of the story, if your tits are small or large please go and check them out. They have such a knowledgeable, helpful staff and their prices are really reasonable for good quality and great fitting items ($40-60 but it might be less for smaller sizes). I have no doubts I won't buy bras from anyone else again
OH, AND THEY DO CORSETS!

what's the current stance on ties with jeans?
gut instinct says no sir, but it seems to be cropping up more and more in casual settings.
things that make sense:
1.) no faded or stressed jeans, nicer top end jeans preferably as dark as possible 2.) solid shirts 3.) tucked in of course
things i wonder about
1.) shoes 2.) tie patterns? seems like, a solid, skinnier base tie would work best, but idk
is this in any tense acceptable?
i was going to wear a new blue paisley tie today, dark jeans, baby blue solid shirt
seemed acceptable in my head, put it on, made me nervous. i think it would have looked better with a solid colored tie, but said fuck it and went without.

Right now, I think pale pink is a good color for the Spring. Any spring-y colors would be good IMO. I've got lavendar tips right now. I'll likely get a mani/pedi before Ft. Lauderdale next weekend and come out with pale pink tips on my hands and pale pink toes. I think in the summertime, it's good to match. In the wintertime when no one sees your toes, you can go wild with the neon green 4/10/2010 10:01:16 AM |
