^ What are you doing at work at 2:00 a.m.?

Anyone got a center console skiff in the 17' range they want to unload? No motor, no trailer necessary.

Quote :
"Coast Guard Says Sailboats in Trouble Off North Carolina Coast

Posted: Today at 10:15 a.m.

CAPE HATTERAS, N.C. — A helicopter hoisted three people from a storm-tossed sailboat early Monday and a rescue chopper was dispatched to pluck three more people off a life raft after they abandoned another sailing vessel, Coast Guard officials said.

A C-130 was sent to check out two more vessels that sent distress signals as a low pressure system whipped the ocean with howling winds that stirred waves as high as 34 feet.

Three people from the sailboat "Seaker" were rescued around 7:30 a.m. after the boat was located within 50 miles of the coast in the Diamond Shoals area in 16-foot seas, said Petty Officer Christopher Evanson, a Coast Guard spokesman. Its sailors were receiving a medical evaluation at the Coast Guard air base at Elizabeth City.

Three more people from the sailboat "Lou Pantini" were in 34-foot seas on a makeshift life raft about 160 miles east of Cape Hatteras, Evanson said. Winds were estimated at 40 knots.

"They are all alive," Evanson said, adding that he didn't know what type of raft they were on but that it "wasn't your traditional life raft."

A C-130 from the air station was flying overhead while a rescue chopper flew to the scene, he said.

Two more sailing vessels reported trouble about 120 miles off Cape Hatteras and a C-130 aircraft was dispatched to see if a helicopter was needed, Evanson said.

The National Weather Service issued a wind warning for the coast, saying rough seas and high winds were expected through Wednesday."

And the forecast for this afternoon...

Albie's are a sweet boat, and so is the 24. I'm just a fan of that engine box right in the cockpit.

In other news, after the debacle this weekend, it looks like we are getting the rig back at the end of this week. Unfortunately, the weather might not cooperate.

yeah.... stinks... 2 drives in the watter means crappier mileage
but 1 means if your engine craps out... you're calling the coast guard.

i think 1 diesel is a decent compromise.

I think so too

I went out 60 miles this weekend on a similar boat

it was a nice comfortable relaxing ride

didn't burn hardly any fuel

Single motors are fine...we did it for years in our small Grady. I have never been on a TW but they have a solid following. There is one guy who takes his out of OI, I see him all the time.

what do you guys think of the DLV series Carolina Skiff

I've pretty much made up my mind that I will buy one here soon

I am either getting the 218 DLV, the 238 DLV, or the 258 DLV

I like the twins on the 258, but what good is having twins when the fuel source is still the same tank/fuel pump/fliters/etc

218 dlv

238 dlv

Twins probably wouldn't be necessary on that boat, just twice the maintenance. As far as the fuel, our boat runs both motors off the same fuel tank. Carolina Skiffs are good boats, but if you ever want to get into some offshore or farther inshore, you might not be as happy.

yeah, I'm not worried about being way offshore for now

I figured for the price, I can't beat one of these boats...

as long as I can play inshore and fish near shore and up to a few miles out I'm good

i like that boat greg you could do a bit of everything with it -but agree that two motors might be a bit much

personally i'd get something smaller than most of you

4-stroke is a must as well

I worked in the fishing/boating industry for years - i dunno if you guys know how much fuel these things burn - hope you get sponsored or get a commercial license that allows you to sale your catch

or that you're loaded and dont give a shit about money - fuck spending 200+ bucks for fishing a day

well i guess you like frozen fish

i guess my point is that we as 20-somethings shouldnt be spending money on boats like that unless you wanna get a 2nd mortgage (or live in an apt). but hey thats just my opinion - some of you guys might light 20 dollar bills on fire just for fun - i dunno.

Thanks man, I'm really excited.

It's an older boat, but solid as far as I can tell. 1985 25' HydraSport with 2 225 mercs. It'll go 50 mph easy with half tank and two men.
