You mean just like during the bball search that lasted another 3 weeks after all the "chatter" was flying around about everyone we were going to hire?

Keep drinking the Kool Aid people.

For those not reading the Jimbo Fisher thread, Fisher's out of the running per David Glenn's blog.

^ Do you really think they will hire a fellow ACC coach for the NC State coaching position...

I don't think that will sit well with the big boosters and Murphy having an ACC coach that was tryin' to beat us at home just a year ago....

Nutt still is overrated, this is the only good year he has had.

^^^hell yes they'd hire an acc coach

i'd like to think that wendell murphy is smarter/more mature than that. not only is boston college not a rival(at all), they've only been in the conference for 2 years. its not like we're trying to hire butch davis away from carolina.

o'brien is a good coach who i think would thrive here

you mean like Chuck Amato? Granted, he was an assistant, but he came from FSU and be it luck or coincidence, we had success vs. FSU. I don't see a disadvantage to hiring an ACC coach.

Does it bother anyone else that they are expecting to have a coach hired by the end of the week and we havent talked to PJ.

What is fowler actually doing???

Its one thing to talk behind the seens with coaches, but to say that they want a decision by the end of the week with the current situation seems odd.

"Boston College coach Tom O'Brien and Navy coach Paul Johnson are among those getting serious consideration for the vacant N.C. State football coaching job, several sources in the college football community said Wednesday.

Meanwhile, LSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher is no longer under consideration by the Wolfpack. Sources said Fisher received word from NCSU on Tuesday that a planned interview would not take place.

"Jimbo was on their B list," a source close to Fisher said. "He was told that they feel good about getting something done with one of the people on their A list, so there was no need for an interview."

State also has been talking, mainly through intermediaries, with Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow, Houston Texans assistant head coach Mike Sherman, Vanderbilt coach Bobby Johnson and Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe. The Wolfpack also made an inquiry about Arkansas coach Houston Nutt, but it is not known how he responded.

More later...."

I think I would take O'Brien over Johnson

He wins in the ACC at a small jesuit catholic school where nobody gives a fuck about college sports

I think he would do well being top dog here

Remember, we're using Daniel Neinas, that way a candidate can honestly deny that he's "had contact with NC State" or can say that he hasn't spoken with Fowler. This is by design and to avoid leaks, speculation, and other bs. Neinas is working with NCSU, but is not affilated with the university. Just because someone says they haven't been contacted by NCSU doesn't mean they aren't a candidate or aren't being interviewed, or aren't in negotiations.

Chow has taken his name out of the running, per ESPN.com

Then again, did any of us really believe we would get a first, or second, or third ... choice ?

Maybe not. Just that a lot of fans had hoped for a big name guy as opposed to someone who excelled at a smaller school or in a non-head coaching position in college only, while in the back of their head knowing it was not going to happen. That possibility looks dead now. Doesn't mean we won't get a good coach ... yet.

^^^Don't think so.

Chow was almost too old to have no HC experience. I guess our admins felt the same way.
About the time he learned the ins-n-outs of head coaching and built a program he'd be retiring

some interesting reading, but if this is true I won't be all that happy. I want Johnson, but O'Brien wouldn't be bad I guess

Quote :
"For a couple of days now we have been hearing there is a mystery candidate at Alabama. That candidate has been unmasked as Rutgers' Greg Schiano. Although Nick Saban would like to take the job, he feels is image would be too badly damaged to make the move. Alabama officials are still wooing him, but insiders expect he will ultimately not jump from the Dolphins. That said, expect a deal with Schiano to be done by week's end. Rich Rodriguez is the fallback candidate should the Schiano deal fall through. Behind him is Arkansas' Houston Nutt, though Bama officials do not expect to get that far down their list.

Rumor has it NC State has talked to Navy's Paul Johnson and Vandy's Bobby Johnson. In a surprising move, LSU OC Jimbo Fisher will not interview because we fully expect Boston College's Tom O'Brien will be the next head coach at NC State. If O'Brien backs out, Paul Johnson looks to be next in line.

It looks as if Miami is zeroing in on Texas Tech's Mike Leach, although TCU's Gary Patterson, DC Randy Shannon and a couple of others are still in the mix. Rumor has is Oklahoma's Bob Stoops has privately expressed interest. The Sooners expect sanctions from this summer's fiasco and Stoops feels the time may be nearing to explore other opportunities - including the NFL.

"

I definitely don't think he would be any better

There is a reason that there are a ton of BC fans don't really care if he leaves. Go look at their message boards. They are almost hoping he comes here. Seems interesting to me that they hate a coach that is going 8-4 and 9-3.

If we don't get Paul Johnson I promise you we will regret it.

BC goes 8-4, 9-3 with less talent in the same conference. he's not don shula.. but i wouldn't be at all upset to have him.

paul johnson does well, but he's untested in bcs play, TOB is proven, more or less.

when it is a coach that wins 8-9 games every year and their fanbase is praying he leaves, then i think that should hold some merit

^^^^^go look at the thread...there isn't one person sticking up for him in any thread on there about him coming here

i am not just picking out a select few posts

i think he would win here, i am not trying to say he wouldn't. But if what we want is an ACC Championship then I believe he is the wrong guy. The excitement would be great when we went to that first peach bowl and went 9-3, but it wouldn't be all that high when we went to our fourth peach bowl in a row
