Twas a good season
Now all we need to do is get better on defense and we'll be set. Our guys are still young, they'll learn hopefully and we'll have a much deeper bench. I'm looking forward to next year and the next.
Thanks for everything Atsur. You gave us 100% and you'll be missed. Good luck overseas. 3/20/2007 10:08:19 PM |

WVU fans are hilarious.. They are like more vulgar NC State fans, nothing more.
They are a very well schooled team. I don't mind losing to a team like that. It's better than losing to a street ball thuggish team. Young was awesome and hit some big shots.
A big thanks to Engin Atsur for wearing the red and white with pride and guts to the very end.. couldn't be prouder of the team... 3/20/2007 10:10:27 PM |

Just imagine a crowd that boos every single call and non call. Hell they were booing when the game was over......literally. I know our crowd can boo quite a bit too, but that arena was ridiculous.

I'm totally with y'all about their fans. They booed every damn thing tonight. Really don't understand the need for it at the end of the game either. The loss to them really hurts. They have owned us (97' NIT, 04' in the RBC, and now twice this season). Seriously blows losing to Hillbilly U and that Sendek clone corny 212 degree coach 3/20/2007 10:15:33 PM |

Oh well, that's the Princeton for you, live and die by the three. They got that lucky bank in to start the run at the perfect time when we were taking control, and once the crowd and momentum were so far into it, draining the others was cake and gave them a big enough shot of energy to stage a stand. But I'll tell you one thing, I for damn sure am glad I don't have to watch that kind of ball every game like before.

The bank was hardly luck. It was a perfect catch and shoot. Grant was out of position, Frank saw that, caught him flat-footed, and shot over him -- any good shooter will do that to you. 3/20/2007 10:22:38 PM |

Nobody tries to bank a three off the glass, and on the replay it was clear that grant's hand was inches from the shooter's face when he was letting it go 3/20/2007 10:23:30 PM |

From what I can remember, every time we've played them, they were the favorites anyway. The announcers gave them props for a team picked to finish 12th in the Big East. Well that's 12 out of 16 teams. We were picked to finish 12th out of 12 teams!
I bet if we play them on a neutral court, we win. Shoot, if not for the lucky banked in 3 that shifted the momentum and woke up the crowd, we win there. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. They got lucky this time. I still rather have Sid and his system than Beilein and his system. I don't like to live and die by the 3, too one-dimensional. I like to throw it in to Costner and McCauley down low most of the time and kick out for open shots every now and then.3/20/2007 10:24:08 PM |

Beilien is NOTHING like Sendek. He has a completely different defensive scheme that is very adaptable. His offense is based on the Princeton but is far more high powered, like G'Town. That offense absoutely can be succesful in major college basketball... if the coach is willing to adapt.
Tell all the 5 star McD's AA's that are winning major conference championships at Georgetown that it doesn't showcase their skills.. Or ask Roy Hibbert or Jeff Green if it can't develop big men.
It's not luck that WVU has been so succesful under Beilien. Elite 8 (minutes from a Final 4) and a Sweet 16 the last 2 years..

Most of you guys are being a bunch of pussies. Yea, yea the refs missed a couple calls, both ways.
Sure their fans booed. You act like we haven't ever booed.
We took some bad shots and they banked a three. Guess what, it's a basketball game.
Man up and say we lost. We had a good season considering the expectations. Sid Lowe did a great job coaching. 3/20/2007 10:32:02 PM |

That offense wasnt "stand on the 3 point line and jack them whether they fall or not"
it was precise, used inside play to open the 3, hard cuts to the basket, hard fakes to the basket then step backs for 3's, and great screening.
I never saw anything like that from Herb's offense. WVU shot too many 3's for my liking tonight because if they dont fall, we win that game going away, but that offense definately wasnt Herb style princeton.

I'm saying if a guy catches and shoots the ball at the spot he wants in rhythm, it has a good chance at going in. The fact that he got a bank just means he got a good spot up in the first place. It was within their offense, exactly what they were looking for, exactly who they were looking for, exactly when they were looking for it. So lucky it was designed

I did watch the game. I saw Costner walk 12 steps, then get an And1. I'm saying people on this board concentrate too much on the refs. They constantly blame the refs. Tonight's refs were average. You aren't going to get much better. 3/20/2007 10:38:04 PM |

They didn't show a replay of the shot we took with about 5 secs. to go, but didn't it seem like there was a foul? The ball was several feet short of the rim and it wasn't taken from too far behind the 3-line. 3/20/2007 10:45:37 PM |

Despite the fact that there are some decent posts with insight on here, the fact that someone stated that a player meant to bank a 3 point shot discredits this entire forum, my mother and grandmother even know that a bank on a 3 is shear luck.
Haven't read the entire thread, but I'm excited about next season. Things I'm not concerned about: Costner and McCauley improving and becoming potential all acc, and Horner hittin' the weight room and getting better. Things I am concerned about but know they will continue: Gavin's inconsistency and inability to be the team leader/untimely TO's (Engin's leadership was VASTLY underrated this year). Things I'm concerned about that can be worked on: Fells playing defense instead of "let me see how wide open my man can get for a three" or "Let me see how I can sell out a teammate and let my man drive to the basket and dish to wide open defender because my teammate had to cover my man." Recruiting was also very solid this year.
