This weekend, my sister and I bought a used PS2 and all four GH games to bring back to our parents' place and rock out.

It's amazing to me how quickly we became the worst of these so-called gamers. Like six hours in, we started freaking out about not having enough "fuel" and tried to send my dad out to get us some Cheetos and Pepsi.

We played all night long, and I am in love.

We're taking it to the mountain when we go skiing this Christmas.

I'ma try to get a pic of me coming down the slope with my ax on.

That's gonna be kinda difficult when he gets to the three note chords.

If you find his webpage, he made one of the pads handle the 3 button chords, so he is kind of cheating.

^^ incorrect.

Several of the pads correspond to 2-button combinations, so he hits a 2-button pad and the pad corresponding to the last button in the chord.

They are going to be shipping a FIXED GHIII (Wii) that fixes the mono-only output. This replacement will be completely free of charge, and it's gonna go down in Jan 08.

people that play games like this seriously end up nearing perfection on these things

84% is pretty bad by those standards

i mean check out this 9 year old kid do it
http://youtube.com/watch?v=KUzNcheoY6U
(i know the sound gets off the video by about a sec or so after a while but you can see he gets through it a lot better than the guy you linked, he keeps 4x multiplier through most of the tough sections)

also it's hilarious the tools on youtube that think he cheated because he didnt strum during the hammer ons and pull offs, even though that's how they're supposed to be done

I thought it was interesting that he did it like a real guitarist at the beginning using both hands just for the ho/pos, not many people i know actually do that in GH

^^^

It's damn near impossible to ace the intro without two-hand tapping. Using just my left hand I can hit about 90%, but it's easy to hit 100% using both hands. Though that kid has my score destroyed. My best score on that song is ~500k.

I don't care what score someone gets on TTFAF on expert, if they can beat it, they are awesome.

I think I've hit my peak with Guitar Hero difficulty in general. I am somewhere between expert and hard, I'm able to play the lower level songs on expert and I struggle with the upper level ones on hard. It just feels like to matter how much I practice, I can't get any better.

^^I would agree. I think I have the ability to be better, but honestly when it becomes more work than fun I just end up quit playing. When it becomes so challenging that you just must practice it slow over and over and over, practically memorizing the patterns for the hard sections to improve, it loses it's fun.

At that point I'd rather focus my efforts into making my real guitar skills better because that effort actually pays off better...

i believe i've hit my peak on guitar hero 3.
i can only beat the first 2 songs on hard.

after watching the video, I see that the boy is strumming both up and down. should i try this? i've just been using my thumb to strum down.

and i can't move my hands fast enough to get to the orange fret and back up to green, etc...

i've tried "talk dirty to me" about 50 times on hard and can't beat it.

if you watch, the kid never pulls his guitar up to enable star power

unless i'm just oblivious to the fact that it automatically engages once all the bulbs are full

you can hit a button on the guitar to activate star power instead of tilting it.

pretty much, the select button on the guitar has always enabled star power just the same as tilting it up, since the original, it's actually not a bad idea, I can't remember how many times i've blown a 4x streak because I'm trying to get the damn star power to register

Absolutely, some songs are impossible to strum unless you double strum up and down. But going back and forth between double and single strumming can be pretty awkward and cumbersome when you first start trying it, so good luck with that.

Some people just reach with their pinkie or index finger if it's just one note that is high or low, but for chords and a lot of other things it is much easier to just shift your whole hand. You need to get comfortable playing on both the bottom and top 4 frets, and be able to remember which fingers do what depending on where your hand is.

Welcome to hard, bud

Ugh, I got this for my boyfriend for Christmas and we were watching XPlay today and he mentioned he couldn't see himself playing it more than a few days

I really want to play this too, it seems like they are hard to find....bummer.

^ umm.. yeah. He says that now.. but just wait til he plays through a few songs. This game is more addicting than crack. I was way late getting on the bandwagon because I thought it looked dumb. Then I played it at my brother's house and promply stopped by best buy to pick it up on my way home.

That is.. unless he plays the real guitar. Then it's quite possible he'll hate it. That seems to be the case with most of the guitarists I know.

^agreed. I laughed at my brother when he used to tell me about playing GH1. Then he got it for me for xmas last year, and I still play it all the time. He will talk shit about it at first, but then he will love it. Tell him to give it some time.

He doesn't play guitar, and he's always had a blast playing at a friends when we visit. I feel bad because he knows what he's getting now, but I don't know what else to get him. If anything he can sell it on eBay I guess

Thanks for the feedback.

Get him something really shitty, like a sweater. Then wait like 15 minutes and give him the guitar hero, and he'll be much happier than if you had just given him the game right away.

I've played guitar for more than 12 years and I think the game is a blast...although GH3 isn't anywhere near as much fun as the original.

It works the same way on all the consoles. Though on the Explorer for the 360, the select button is about 10mm by 10mm, so damn near impossible to push without screwing up. They made it bigger on the Les Paul and the Fender Stratocaster (in rock band).
