man, if i'm having fun it doesn't matter what size fish i'm catching or even if i'm catching anything at all. i mean, yeah, it's fun as shit to catch a bunch of big fish, but it's not the main reason i go fishing. hell, if that was the case i could get by a lot cheaper by just buying them at a fish market.

I'm fishing a Fall Bass Tournament at Lake Townsend in Greensboro this weekend. I am sure it will be nice and warm at the 6AM launch.

fishing isn't all about catching fish. If it were, it would be called catching.

Try fishing a 8 hour tournament in the middle of January and only catching 2 bass the whole day, totalling 4 lbs. And yeah, I actually won that tournament. Tough day.

or try trout fishing from 5:30 am to 3 pm in a 20 knot wind with spitting sleet. going out there's 1/8th inch of ice on top of the brackish water.

then try doing it and not catching a damn thing and loving every minute of it.

Yeah, we had to break ice to launch the boat at that tournament as well. and all day there were big chunks of ice floating by. Now THAT is fishing!

well, technically you can. i would advise against it though. some karters tend to get in fights a lot and like to pack some heat in the pits. hell, my dad almost knocked a guy over the head with a pull-cranker once cause he was pissed he got outrun.

[Edited on October 28, 2008 at 3:25 PM. Reason : i outrun the other guy's son. clarification....]

thats why people carry those big ass wrenches in their toolboxes...you know there's not an 1 1/2 inch bolt on a go-kart...we called em "defense wrenches"

we kept a hatchet in our toolbox for that.

unfortunately it got used for some fiberglass work once or twice

before i started racing karts it hung in our engine shop and my dad wrote on it "Driver Equalizer: +30 HP" and directed drivers to it when they complained (jokingly) of not enough power.

Y'all make kart racing sound like fun. Maybe I could start an orphan kart racing team since I don't have kids.

Fishing on the other hand...Sounds like a terrible thing to do if all I knew about it came from this page.

kart racing was fun, but i would much rather fish. fishing is way cheaper (and we raced on a really low amateur local level). after about 5 years of racing, my dad and i both realized we (along with my mom and the bank account) would rather quit racing and fish more. so we sold our kart, bodies, tires, engines, enclosed trailer, driving gear, and all the related tools and had enough to upgrade from an old 20' proline CC to a brand new 18' polar tunnel hull CC with aluminum trailer and a 90 hp yamaha

[Edited on October 28, 2008 at 8:36 PM. Reason : ^it's not just for kids. they even have a senior class. i think it's 40 or 50+, can't remember.]

^Its just an "over 35 class"...i gave my dad shit for racing in the old fart class...

but yeah, it is expensive as shit. we raced the National Enduro series for a few years and realized we were spending WAY too much money and the higher we got into it, the less fun we had. Now, I just race with my friends at local dirt tracks when all the Nascar shit slows down. Fishing is definitely more relaxing than racing.

Going out of Morehead on Satruday if the weather stays the way they are calling right now.
SAT
N WINDS 5 TO 10 KT. SEAS 2 TO 3 FT

Hopefully some of the wahoo and blackfin are still around. Probably head south out of beaufort inlet though.

Anyone hearing any reports in that area?

Decided to make a suicide run to OI after work Friday. Either going to hop on a make-up or bandage up the Grady for a November swim.

Fished the turning basin at Morehead port last weekend and caught lots of spotted trout and spot, sometimes pulling 2 fish up at a time on double bottom rigs and shrimp.

14-15" is a solid speck. if they were hitting dead shrimp i would've loved to see what i could've done with them on some artificials. would've worn that ass out.

how cold is it out there?

Quote :

we've had our truck locked inside the park before because we stayed so late (no one came and told us to leave though). There was a cop driving around doing patrol and when we stopped him, he said he wasn't going to let us out and that we had to wait till the next day... so we just sat around and drank the beers we had left while we waited for my friends gf to pick us up

yeah, i layer up like that for winter trout fishing. if i were to fall out the boat with all those clothes on i'd be dead if the water was over my head. we keep a boat hook in a gunwale rod holder for this situation. haven't had to use it yet though knock on wood.
