It's amazing that anyone would think being BLACK and named BARACK OBAMA would give you an ADVANTAGE when running for president in this country.

I know, but Obama only had 30% of the black vote just last year

It's because it's just down to Obama and Clinton, and Clinton has done so many things to alienate her black supporters.

Keith Olberman covered the issue pretty well in the clip I just posted.

Personally, If I have a choice to vote with an Obama camp that has been trying to keep race out of my decision... and a Clinton camp that does nothing but make it about race... I'll obviously go with the Obama camp.

do you think clinton has done so many things to alienate her black supporters...or that black voters are tending to vote for the black candidate?

also fwiw, the majority of democrat women in the same poll said they'd vote for clinton

its hard for me to think that for many of them its anything different than either "i'm black, i'll vote for the black candidate" or "i'm a woman, I'll vote for the woman candidate"...obviously black women are in the overlap but still

no Treetwista, I really don't think that. 1 reason I don't think that is because of the polls last year that showed Obama with only 30% of the black vote. The Hillary camp fucked up on many occasions, and that resulted in her losing lots of black support.

I give whites in places like NH, Wisc, and Iowa credit for not letting race of the candidates influence their votes - they voted because they liked the way Obama was running his campaign.

I give blacks the same credit, because it wasn't until Hillary's campaign started fucking up and alienating blacks with all the subtle and overt racial over and undertones that she LOST her black support.

Like I said, Olberman laid it out will in the clip I posted.

at the same time though, i think there are plenty of white people who will vote for mccain just cause he isnt black or isnt a woman

Oh my God, Hillary is digging her own grave

WHAT AN IDIOT

http://www.scrappleface.com/?p=2911

Quote :
"(2008-03-13) — Just a day after Hillary Clinton repudiated Geraldine Ferraro’s suggestion that Barack Obama’s presidential bid has succeeded in part for racial reasons, Sen. Clinton assailed her rival for what she called “a betrayal of Affirmative Action programs spawned by the Civil Rights movement, and therefore, a betrayal African-Americans in general.”

“My good friend Geraldine Ferraro was wrong to say that my opponent succeeds because he’s black,” said Sen. Clinton. “In fact, the problem with Sen. Obama, for Democrats, is precisely that he has succeeded without regard to his race. This is deeply disturbing and against our fundamental principles.”

“Black voters need to take a serious look at the way Sen. Obama has achieved his national prominence,” Mrs. Clinton told an evening forum sponsored by the National Newspaper Publishers Association, a group of more than 200 black community newspapers across the country. “His arrogant, ‘pull yourself up by your own bootstraps’ mentality, implies that my brothers and sisters who have received a leg up from Affirmative Action are somehow inferior.”

Sen. Clinton added, “The fact that Sen. Obama graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, served six years in the Illinois state legislature, got elected as a U.S. senator, and now runs a 50-state presidential campaign that’s raising more money, winning more votes and capturing more delegates than mine, all points to a disturbing pattern of hard work and vigorous competition. His whole life is an endorsement of the kind of meritocracy that Democrats have rejected for decades.”

Umm....yes, I will tell you right now that I think it's been a major advantage, at least so far in the primary process. There are definitely people out there that want to look "accepting and open-minded" by supporting a black man. It makes people feel good about themselves, which is what liberalism is all about.

I think Obama is popular because he is young, charismatic and because people like and trust him...being black isnt the thing that is making him popular.

However, were he not a black man and just another white man Democrat, he would likely have no chance to beat Hillary in the primary. In that way, being black is an advantage to him. Its going to win him the nomination. It can work both ways.

Obama's Pastor: God Damn America, U.S. to Blame for 9/11

Quote :
"Sen. Barack Obama's pastor says blacks should not sing 'God Bless America' but 'God damn America.'

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's south side, has a long history of what even Obama's campaign aides concede is 'inflammatory rhetoric,' including the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism."

In a campaign appearance earlier this month, Sen. Obama said, 'I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial.' He said Rev. Wright 'is like an old uncle who says things I don't always agree with,' telling a Jewish group that everyone has someone like that in their family.

Rev. Wright married Obama and his wife Michelle, baptized their two daughters and is credited by Obama for the title of his book, 'The Audacity of Hope.'

An ABC News review of dozens of Rev. Wright's sermons, offered for sale by the church, found repeated denunciations of the U.S. based on what he described as his reading of the Gospels and the treatment of black Americans.

'The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing "God Bless America." No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people,' he said in a 2003 sermon. 'God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.'

In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism.

'We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye,' Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001.

'We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost,' he told his congregation."

The "Reverend" Wright on Bill Clinton:

While I do think that guilt by association is a logical fallacy, no one ever said politics is logical. This story is getting some traction, and I think Obama may have some explaining to do concerning it.

In any event, had this been the questionable comments of a conservative presidential candidate's pastor, you'd better believe that candidate would have to continually explain the association.

Well, America's foreign policy did have a lot to do with 9-11; and lots of people in the administration knew it was gonna happen. The whole thing was fucked up on both ends.

Either way, he said that years ago - but his sermons right now are NOT helping Obama. It is time for that minister to shut the fuck up.

^ So where does Obama stand now? On foreign policy in particular.

I mean, in 2006, Obama said that a date for withdrawal directed by Congressional edict rather than realities on the ground was a bad idea.
http://obama.senate.gov/speech/060621-floor_statement_6/

10 months later, he introduced legislation that set a withdrawal date.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/13/us/politics/13obama.html?ref=politics

However, his legislation left the option of extending our stay in Iraq open if the Iraqi government met goals layed out by the Bush administration (of course he doesn't mention that in many speeches these days).
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/30/AR2007013001586.html

So where exactly does he stand? Do we have a withsdrawal time table or don't we? Will we stay in Iraq or won't we? If we stay in Iraq, how long will we stay? Obama is not very forthcomming on these issues. And that is a very bad thing.

Really, I'm suprised no one in the press has pressed him harder on this. They never even mention his 2006 speech opposing a congressionally imposed deadline for withdrawl. You know McCain will ask him these questions. And I can't wait, because I don't think he has a good answer.

^ That's your answer to my question on Obama? To attack McCain?

McCain has made it clear that he would keep troops in Iraq to maintain security while the Iraqi government is formed, while Iraqi troops are trained, etc. He hasn't given a withdrawal date because he realizes this isn't something you just walk out on. We fucked up these people's country and we don't know how long it will be before they can maintain security on their own.

At least McCain is honest about his commitments, even if you disagree with them. Obama slips and slides with the polls. First he says we don't need a time table, then he says we do. He makes it sound like he would have the troops home soon, then he hides details in his legislation about how the withdrawal may be halted if the Iraqi's meet the Bush administration's goals.

If you don't want to explain how you can support those "policies", fine. But don't think deflecting the issue will make the problem go away. Obama needs to make his plans for Iraq CLEAR, if he wants to be forthright with the American people. None of the press seem to give a damn, but some of us do.

so we have been bombing random villages? hmm. who said anything about Bush you idiot? nowhere did I justify any war with my post. nowhere did I mention Bush. what I did justify is what an evil asshole Bin Laden is and I tried to show you that OBL doesnt need any other reason to kill you and your children painfully than the fact that you are not Muslim. period. this point is not debatable. it has been proven by his own words and actions. you are a fucking clown.

so what if McCain considered Nathaniel Forrest his inspiration? are you telling me that you and Jesse and Al wouldnt be shitting yourselves with angst because a Presidential nominee was inspired by a racist asshole? because that is exactly what this pastor is. you dont see that because you are busy jerking off to your Obamagasm. I dont think Obama agrees with what the guy is saying, I just think he is an idiot and a hypocrite to call him such a good friend and advisor...not to mention sitting in his church for 20 years listening to that garbage.

its relevant to running the country because it proves that Obama has very little common sense for so publically identifying himself with such a contraversial and polarizing figure. douche.

Quote :
"Hagee interprets the Bible to predict Russia and the Islamic states will invade Israel and will be destroyed by God. This will cause the anti-Christ, the head of the European Union, to create a confrontation over Israel between China and the West. A final battle between East and West at Armageddon will then precipitate the Second Coming of Christ.[10] In a discussion concerning Muhammad, Hagee asserts that Muhammad was a man of war and that this influence on Islam is the cause of the troubles of Jerusalem"

-John Hagee
