after the green white checker final crash klye petty was saying the they would use the scoring loops to determine the winner. they actually use the video to see who is ahead when the caution light comes on.
kyle busch got lucky last night, the 99 was faster before his splitter broke and he would have never passed the 48 without the 38 blowing up. of course the fastest car rarely wins

it's official newman's gone, expect his announcement of where he's going next weekend. http://www.penskeracing.com/news/index.cfm?series=n&cid=18055
most likely Stewart/HAAS
Quote : | "Sources say David Stremme is one of the drivers being looked at to replace Newman in that ride." |
that would be a step in the wrong direction for penske, IMHO.
Penske has probably the most money & resources yet they aren't improving. why.

i was going to post this earlier but Truex is actually on Penske's list as well as Stremme (and maybe Mears) http://www.jayski.com/cupnews.htm#news12b
Quote : | "# UPDATE: Newman acknowledged on Saturday in Chicagoland that he has three serious options outside of Penske. A source close to the situation said Newman has been in discussions with Stewart Haas, Joe Gibbs Racing and Richard Childress Racing. The source added there is a firm offer from Stewart-Haas and that potential sponsors are set, but that the deal is not done. Newman said one of his options included ownership of equity in the company. Stewart-Haas general manager Joe Custer said his company is not looking to give up any more ownership than the 50 percent already given to Stewart. JGR officials have consistently said they are not interested in giving up ownership. Team owner Joe Gibbs and president J.D. Gibbs talked on Saturday as though 18-year-old sensation Joey Logano could replace Stewart in the #20 Home Depot car next season. RCR, looking for a driver for a fourth team sponsored by General Mills, and GEM already are divided into partnerships.(ESPN.com)(7-15-2008) Comment here
# Truex or Stremme to the #12? Penske has offered no hints as to who might replace Ryan Newman. Martin Truex Jr.’s name has been mentioned, but Truex’s current contract with DEI is still the subject of legal debate, and it is unclear if DEI will indeed force Truex to return for another season or give him his release. Truex has been pushing quietly to become a free agent. David Stremme, who drove for fellow Dodge owner Chip Ganassi until being released at the end of last season, has been a Penske test driver this season, and Stremme could also be under consideration.(Winston-Salem Journal)(7-15-2008)" |

^ the tires are ill-suited for the track surface and the right side tires aren't putting rubber into the track, but are becoming dust. They are basically being chewed up and wearing out way too early. 7/27/2008 3:48:33 PM |

I know, but a win is a win. About like Kurt Busch's win.
Anyway, I heard that 1/3 of it was run under caution and it just sucked from the tires and no testing, etc etc etc... I didn't watch a single lap, I was at the Big Buck (STH) Expo today. 7/27/2008 11:51:32 PM |

they should have put wider tires under the cot from the beginning. its heavier, has higher center of gravity and less downforce but has the same tires.

so something like a 17" diameter wheel and a 12 or 13" wide tire? kinda going along the whole staying 10+ years behind the times thing.... 7/28/2008 9:34:40 AM |

how about just bringing a harder compound tire? I mean, they did a tire test there and still bring a shitty tire. 7/28/2008 1:53:37 PM |
titans78 All American 4038 Posts user info edit post |
Where they went wrong is that generally rubber builds up on the track during the race(at least with the old cars) so even if tires got chewed up early they were fine at the end and sticking well. I'm guessing when they tested the tire they made the assumption the same would happen with the COT, but it didn't. So no rubber built up on the track, and their shit tire was just turning into dust. 7/28/2008 2:24:30 PM |
