yeah, Kiffin is either a crazy son of a bitch or he has balls of steel... or both.

Hes told two fairly high ranked QB commitments (especially Boyd who was really high) that they were free to come to UT but they werent going to be QBs. Some people are saying hes got someone lined up (some people said Barkley decommitting from USC but I really really dont think thats going to happen, if it does Kiffin is the fucking man) or he noticed something with Crompton, Stephens, or Coleman that he thinks can be fixed.

If this year in the NFL has proven anything, being a third-string USC QB isn't such a bad thing.

That decommitt from Barkley would be crazy... guessing the older Clausens might be the reason for the talks? Nunes committed in large part because of them.... just wondering if they've been in Barkley's ear.

Ehhh, it's all speculation I guess, something to talk about though.

"Kiffin fires back at Spurrier

New Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin confirmed the hiring of three assistant coaches, including his father, during a press conference Saturday.

Kiffin said his father, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, will join UT's staff two days following Tampa's final game of the season.

As previously reported, former Oakland Raiders offensive line coach James Cregg will join Kiffin's staff, along with former South Carolina assistant David Reaves.

Both those hires ruffled feathers in Oakland and South Carolina.

Asked about that Saturday, Kiffin said:

"I don't really care," "I'm not concerned about that. I got a job to do in our athletic department and that's to put together the best staff we can put together and the best players we can put together. I'm not really concerned about that stuff.

"If Steve's concerned about my test, I got 39 out of 40," Kiffin said, responding to comments made by Carolina coach Steve Spurrier shortly after Kiffin was hired about whether Kiffin had passed the required NCAA recruiting test before contacting prospects. "I'd like to see what he got."

Kiffin offered no word on the status of four assistant coaches under former UT coach Phillip Fulmer – Latrell Scott, Greg Adkins, Stan Drayton and Jason Michael – who have been recruiting for UT since Kiffin was hired Nov. 30."

sweet, got a 4 star WR out of Florida

Quote :
"
Tallahassee, Florida (Leon High School) wide receiver James Green got the Christmas present he had been looking for Monday morning with a phone call from Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin.

"The phone rang and it was from the 865 area code and I thought it was my recruiting coach (Stan Drayton)," Green said. "I said hello and it was coach Kiffin. He said he was watching my tape and liked what he saw and asked me if I wanted to be a Vol. And I committed. I was really amazed it was coach Kiffin himself calling me."

Green said he didn't just hang up the phone, but instead spent several minutes getting to know his new coach.

"He told me to just relax and talk to him like I was talking to one of my friends," Green said. "Sometimes you are kind of nervous talking to a head coach, but he was really cool to talk to and I felt real comfortable with him. We seemed to have a good chemistry."

Green is also comfortable with the Vols having followed them for several years.

"I have always liked Tennessee," Green offered. "I just have liked them. They have had a lot of good players. Donte Stallworth is one of my favorite receivers and a guy I model my game after. They also had a guy like Jason Witten who is the best tight end in football."

The 6-foot-2, 202 pound four star wide out was scheduled to visit South Florida, Florida, and Ole Miss. He was also still hearing from hometown school Florida State. But that is all over with now.

"I am taking my visit up there on January 23rd and that is the only visit that I am going to take," Green said. "It feels good to have everything over with. I am excited about being a Vol."

As for his game, Green said his combination of size and speed is what Kiffin told him he liked most about his game.

"Coach said he liked my speed and what I do with the ball after the catch," Green said.

And it's how Kiffin uses big receivers that is what impresses Green the most.

"Like I said, I have always liked Tennessee and when they made the coaching change I was watching things closely," Green explained. "When I saw it was coach Kiffin I was excited because of what he did when he was the offensive coordinator at Southern Cal. You look at what he did with guys like Mike Williams, Steve Smith, and Dwayne Jarrett and how can you not be excited to be a receiver in that offense."

Rivals.com ranks Green as the 32nd best wide receiver in the country."

Quote :
"Rodney Garner said he hopes to have a quick decision on whether he'll leave Georgia and return to Tennessee.

Garner and his wife, Kim, were in Knoxville on Saturday meeting with new Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin, who's offered Garner a job on the Vols' staff.

"It was a good visit. I got to see some old friends, got to meet Monte (Kiffin), Coach (Ed) Orgeron and all the coaches," said Garner, the assistant head coach, recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach at Georgia. "They're putting together quite a staff, and I hope to come to some conclusion by (Sunday) afternoon."

Garner coached at Tennessee in 1996 and 1997 before joining the Georgia staff. He coached tight ends and offensive tackles with the Vols before switching to defensive line with the Bulldogs.

If he decides to return to Tennessee, there's a chance he would return to the offensive side of the ball, possibly as some type of running game coordinator.

"It's best that Coach Kiffin talk about all that, but it's something I think could definitely enhance my career," said Garner, who played on the offensive line at Auburn. "I'm comfortable on either side of the ball."

Garner earned $253,000 this season at Georgia. His salary at Tennessee, if he takes the job, could approach the $400,000 figure.

One of the best recruiters in the SEC, Garner has also coached four first-round draft selections in the defensive line at Georgia -- Richard Seymour, Marcus Stroud, Johnathan Sullivan and Charles Grant.

"

looks like Rodney is deciding quickly.

Rumor was just leaked from Georgia's O-Line coach.

Garner is quickly deciding on a $500k deal as LB coach. Mainly just waiting to hear if Georgia wants to give him a pay increase, but it seems as if this might be a done deal. Official announcement is supposed to be made by tonight.

I think he is stuck in line at Macy's in Knoxville trying to pick out the right Orange tie for the press conference

Mandatory weightlifting is at 5:00AM starting immediately.

No bending over to catch your breath during workouts. You will pay dearly for it.

No earrings, hats or stuff like that in the football facilities. You will show respect for yourself, your teammates and your university.

Don't be late for meetings.

If you embarass the team, coaches, university the penalties will be severe"

Kiffin was also spotted at certain classes at 8AM this morning... checking on guys like Berry, and Creer...

this guy has officially put recruting duties on the shoulders of his dad and Coach O... and placed his own focus on the team itself.

Ill miss him talking on FSS, but having a Championship ring should help with recruits.

"We can confirm this morning that former Auburn running backs coach Eddie Gran is on his way to Knoxville today and barring any snag with his contract, Gran will join the offensive staff.

Gran, who was actually a GA at Miami when Orgeron was there interviewed with Lane Kiffin before Christmas and earlier this week at the AFCA Coaches convention in Nashville, Gran visited with Orgeron and offensive coordinator Jim Cheney.

Also, we think there is a possibility of more coaching news later day as there is a chance that Kiffin will have his staff complete by the weekend.

One name we are checking on offensively is Frank Wilson who was with Orgeron at Ole Miss. Wilson could coach receivers and was recently hired at Mississippi State.

This is getting pretty ridiculous. Who knows how good Tennessee will be in terms of X's and O's, but if this staff doesn't land a top 3 recruiting class next year, I'll be a little upset. Kiffin has been able to steal away a huge portion of the SEC's great recruiters. And they can all recruit different areas really well. Should be fun to watch this staff land guys -- hopefully they will know how to handle the 5-star mentality and coach them to success though.

Oh yeah, I agree. I think there might be a while until the big wins start coming. But with this staff, the recruits should start coming right away.

I am worried that some of the coaches will get upset that they aren't automatically given the job of recruiting the top-notch talent in the country. With the staff they have, the big-name 5-star and 4-star guys will be split among the coaches. And most of this staff is used to being one of the only guys going after those top recruits. Time will tell.

Lttle more info on Gran

"Kiffin hires Gran, former Auburn running backs coach
By Drew Edwards (Contact)
Originally published 01:09 p.m., January 16, 2009

Former Auburn University running backs coach Eddie Gran is the newest member of the University of Tennessee’s coaching staff.
UT coach Lane Kiffin hired Gran, likely as running backs coach, the News Sentinel confirmed today.
Gran spent 15 seasons with Tommy Tuberville, first at Ole Miss and most recently at Auburn.
Gran, 43, coached running backs at both stops and also coached special teams at Auburn since 2000.
As of 2007, six running backs coached by Gran were in the NFL: Ronnie Brown, Heath Evans, Kenny Irons, Brandon Jacobs, Deuce McAlister and Carnell Williams.
A native of Southern California, Gran played wide receiver at California Lutheran. In previous coaching stops, he has worked with receivers, running backs, defensive backs, linebackers and quarterbacks.
He also spent time as a graduate assistant at Miami when UT assistant head coach Ed Orgeron was defensive line coach there.
Gran is the seventh assistant coach hired by Kiffin.
