I'm very happy to be done with TWC. I don't like this DVR box, but I think with time I'll be efficient enough that it won't bother me so much. I do miss the ability to rewind the previous channel you were on though...If you are watching a show a few minutes behind the live feed and you accidentally switch channels you lose that cache to be able to rewind to where you were on the previous channel. That's pretty weak.
For those of you who switched from TWC, did they refuse to cancel your service until you returned the boxes? They refused to cancel mine when I called. I argued with the lady and told her that I would return the boxes within three business days and she finally agreed to cancel my subscription. When I returned the boxes two days later I found out that I was still being billed. That is some bullshit. You should not be forced to pay for a service that you no longer want.

hows the internet compare to TWC? I currently got 7mbps Earthlink for $40, and I didn't see any u-verse plans that were better 9/22/2009 2:29:23 PM |

why wait for HD only? thinking it will be cheaper without all the other channels?
and the internet is great - you get the advertised speed, the upload speed is much better than TWC hands down, and it actually works without failure... unlike TWC

Well I signed up for U450 with MAX 18 Internet service... I will be surprised if it all works as advertised on day 1.
BTW: my package was $166/month for six months, with $250 visa card. No promo codes, purchased straight from att's site.
Only shitty thing so far is that I have to wait until Oct 13 for install.

well there is unlimited phone too, but I dont really care about that...
i am already paying 128/month to TWC for 10mbps internet and digital cable with hbo sho... So 166/month isnt that bad, considering there are 110 HD channels on uverse. 9/22/2009 3:24:08 PM |

your line probably ranges at about 46mbps on average, they can definitely handle the extra traffic from your house to the VRAD. the problem comes in the backhaul from the nodes - that would choke it, i'm sure. 9/28/2009 1:25:47 PM |

So I got this installed last week, and really haven't played with it yet due to the flu.
Here are some things that I have discovered and pardon me if there already mentioned in the other 14 pages...
To access a more detailed RG management screen browse to http://192.168.1.254/management
I signed up for the 18 MAX net connection. I get about 17.25 Mbps stable from giganews with no TV's on. 16.1 Mbps with one HD TV on. I think I am going to downgrade to the 12 Mbps speed to save $10 since all I really wanted was that 1.5 Mbps up anyways.
Below is a tracert to ncsu.edu, I am travelling through 1 wireless bridge before reaching the RG.

I've been having problems with my web host. Anytime I try to ssh it takes ~1 min before the server responds for a password request. Uploading files that are ~4-5kb takes forever and sometimes doesn't go through. (ftp) yet I can open and edit files remotely (ftp) fairly quickly. So I opened a ticket and they asked me to run a traceroute which i did. It appears after hoping from my router i get a bunch of **** for the next 30 hops or so. No info about any of them other than 1 or 2 '*' Anyone have an idea whats going on here? I can access my site just fine (HTTP) and every other site, play online via console, watch tv etc...just seems to be my web host but it can't be an issue with them if my hops are fubar immediately after my router.
I'm going to try a reboot of the router or RG(whatever its called) when i get home. 10/12/2009 11:12:37 AM |

^I doubt it's relevant to your situation but just out of curiosity does SSH do a FCrDNS check?
Check that your current IP is resolving both ways. I had to escalate to a Tier 3 DNS engineer via CenturyLink a couple months back to get mine fixed. Even T2 was swearing I was retarded and demanding I reset the modem.
We had similar issues with telnet and https lag, albeit perfect trace routes. 10/12/2009 1:08:41 PM |

So my U-Verse install went well today except for the fact that I can't disconnect the Time Warner signal to my rented townhouse. Time Warner locked the outside box where all the rooms/units coax terminates and I can't get in to remove their splitter. The complex said that they do not have a key to the box. I noticed that some of the dish installs had run into the box but the AT&T tech didn't have a key. Any tips on getting Time Warner/AT&T to resolve the issue or anybody have a key (normal key not the round one)? 10/19/2009 3:28:15 PM |

I only have one complaint really with the u-verse service... That damn 3800HGV-B box really sucks.
I think that u-verse really missed the boat on having all the router/firewall shit there in the RG instead of just having a "internet" port that you connect a router to for net traffic.
If anyone has some tricks to better optimize the RG for large amounts of connections at one time, such as USENET traffic. Can you please reply! For example, having a lot of connections open to giganews causes "connection timeouts" to occur every so often, maybe ever 10 minutes or so... 10/19/2009 3:51:54 PM |

I can't get into the junction box outside and every jack terminates to there (all 7 that are in the house) 10/19/2009 3:57:31 PM |

Has anyone else been having trouble with the signal lately? My screen will turn bright red (audio continues) for like 10 seconds usually and then go back to normal. 10/20/2009 6:14:13 PM |

Nope I have not seen that issue... The only thing that has plagued me is on the DVR box, I will sometimes loose the ability to pause live TV. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Its like the box doesn't record the channel that is currently tuned and sometimes it does.
But I did fix my TCP timeout issues. I just removed the Linksys router that I DMZ+ through the 3800hgv-b and just plugged everything directly into the 3800hgv-b. Presto, no more timeouts. Must have been something in the DMZ+ routing that was causing the issue. Since I only have one wired PC connected to the net I really don't care what router its plugged into. But it does suck to loose all the features of DD-WRT cause of this.
Also to report I have the Max 18 internet profile, and I get on average 17.3 Mbps to giganews using their accelerator program, and roughly 1.45 Mbps up. This is all while one HD channel is tuned, and if I have 2 HD streams it goes down to about 12.5 Mbps/1.45 Mbps.
Anyway, just thought I would let the U-verse TWW community know how my experience is going. 10/21/2009 10:49:26 AM |
