So, what i dont understand from the stars and bars crowd, if this really is about heritage, is why the reemergencee of this particular flag during the 1960's as a symbol opposing the civil rights movement?

Read any of the Confederate leaders post-war literature. Nearly everything burro posts come from that and they directly counter most of the pre-war literature, speeches, declarations, etc.

Hell, even the WPA slave narratives have contributed greatly to the softening of slavery in a lot of people's minds, including Dylann Roofs.

I can see how someone, until recently, would feel it's about heritage not hate, this is what pretty much everyone told us growing up, and people don't think about or question things.

It's not until you step back and learn about the history a little, or realize it's the kkk and Charleston shooter types that most proudly and prominently fly the flag, that you would realize that even if you feel to your bones it's about your heritage, when some KKK or neo Nazi sees your bumper sticker, they're going to feel they could come up to you, say some racist things, and you probably won't be too mad about it.

And if these same people really felt it was about heritage, they would show this, but I literally don't see anyone actually standing up for the heritage of what being a southerner means. Shouldnt pro rebel flag people be able to mount a much larger counter protest to the KKK and " take back"the flag? Couldn't pro rebel flag people get together and collect money for the burnt black churches, or help them rebuild? Couldn't they even join black lives matter protests for fairer treatment of blacks by the legal system? These would be uphill battles but this is how you define and redefine what a symbol means. Shouldn't opposing racists and helping people be part of southern heritage?

I haven't seen it anywhere reported that people who support the flag have protested for anything except to keep flying the flag. If it's actually about heritage, it seems to be a heritage that no one is proud enough to articulate what it means.

Did anyone here ever watch dukes of hazard? I can't imagine it having positive depictions of minorities, given the time period and setting, but maybe this is where most white people ground their understanding of the rebel flag?
