Quote : | "Newyorkposter – Somewhere over the Pacific, Pabst Blue Ribbon began putting on airs. That reliably blue-collar Milwaukee lager, later adopted by unbearable hipsters on the coasts, has turned up in China. And P.B.R., best known in the U.S. for being the cheapest beer on the grocery-store shelf, has—like so many expatriates before it—taken the move as an opportunity to change its image. For a beer, that appears to involve an elegant glass bottle and a fantastically ridiculous price tag. One bottle: forty-four dollars. P.B.R. has been reborn as “Blue Ribbon 1844” beer in China, advertised in magazines as a “world famous spirit” to be savored from a champagne flute. As a recent advertisement in Window of the South magazine put it: It’s not just Scotch that’s put into wooden casks. There’s also Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer 1844." |

I'm not generally a huge fan of the deep cocoa taste in beers and kind of has that with a coffee-ish taste. I am such a huge Sierra fan that it left me a bit disappointed. Still, I hope it comes to Saucer on draft shortly to try it outside a bottle.
They replaced the Anniversary Ale which was my favorite IPA with the Tumbler, so that kind of sucks.
** Oh, and I was NOT a fan at all of any of the Full Steam beers. They ranged from truly awful to no taste to blah. Just not a top tier brewery IMO. Will probably not have again.

I didn't think Tubmler had much of a coffee flavor at all, more of a caramel/toasted bread/toffee thing going on. Personally I didn't mind them replacing the Anniversary ale, they already make so many hoppy beers that all kind of run together flavor-wise (pale ale, torpedo, celebration, all 3 harvest beers). 8/14/2010 4:23:14 PM |

how is that rumble ipa? for some reason oak-aging an ipa seems really weird to me, but i love my beers super hoppy 8/14/2010 5:58:01 PM |
armorfrsleep All American 7289 Posts user info edit post |
I haven't had a chance to try it yet, since I worked last night and am working tonight. I'm sure they just added oak chips to the conditioning tank, so it might not have been "aged" any longer than your average IPA. Plus it was bottled less than two weeks ago so it should be plenty hoppy.

I had a Aecht Rauchbier Marzen last night.
It was really good, but I'll be damned if it didn't smell like bacon at first whiff. Very smoky smell and taste. Didn't taste like the typical Marzen I'm used to. 8/15/2010 1:52:10 PM |
