I assume AT&T has better coverage in the triangle than T-Mobile right?
Anyone used T-Mobile around here for any length of time? I just played with a friends Nexus one, and his phone was in Edge/EVDO/whatever the non 3G is called, with two bars, while my iphone had 5 bars of 3G
also does anyone here have the nexus one? what network do you run it on?] 1/11/2010 4:05:20 PM |

There's an issue with the Nexus One staying on EDGE (non-3G) or flipping between EDGE and 3G a lot.
Quote : | "T-Mobile acknowledges Nexus One 3G issue by Andrew Munchbach on January 11th, 2010 at 9:25am Filed under: Android, HSPA, HTC, News, T-Mobile 74 Comments
We’ve been hearing grumblings on the intertubes about the newly minted Nexus One having 3G connectivity problems with T-Mobile’s network. Users have been reporting that the Nexus is constantly bouncing between 3G and EDGE, even in a 3G saturated area, or, in some of the more severe cases, not connecting to the 3G network even when it is available. A moderator on T-Mobile’s forums states, “Google and T-Mobile are investigating this issue and hope to have more information for you soon. We understand your concern and appreciate your patience.” Let’s hope this is a minor coding snafu and can be resolved quickly by a software patch. Any early adopters of the “Sexy Nexy” seeing 3G issues?" |
From their maps, 3G coverage should be about the same with at&t and tmobile for raleigh. AT&T extends out further though
List of phones subject to the mandatory data packages which I think some of those already required data anyways. Now you just pay 29.99 for "unlimited" instead of 19.99 for 75MB

It begins
Quote : | "Google swamped by Nexus One complaints From developers, as well as customers Product: Nexus One | Publisher: Google by Spanner Spencer Google's first home-grown smartphone, the Nexus One, hit the ground running last week, delivering not only a new update to its Android operating system but a whole new marketing model that leaves the networks out in the cold. The internet giant was sitting on a throne of gold and silicon.
It seems that it's not been a particularly smooth ride, however. One of the things that Google clearly didn't factor into its new sales model for the Nexus One - which must be bought through Google's own store front rather than through a network, as all other phones are - is dealing with complaints.
According to a report on PCWorld, Google's support forums are on fire with customers looking for support for their new Nexus One, but unable to find it. Normally the network (Vodafone, here in the UK) would be fielding such complaints, but quite understandably people are going back to the place they bought the device to solve their issues, which is evidently unprepared.
The networks are apparently turning customers back toward Google for support (and why wouldn't they?), which is currently only offer email contact with a 48 hour turnaround on replies - far too long, from what disgruntled Nexus One owners are saying.
And the complaints don't stop there. Beleaguered Android developers are voicing their annoyance that end users have received the 2.1 version of the operating system before they did, with no SDK having been released as yet.
This means devs are unable to test their software against the latest update without buying a Nexus One, and this is already proving an issue with developers receiving complaints that their software is having issues on Android 2.1 - and they're unable even to test it.
It's appearing more and more likely that Google rushed to market a little with the Nexus One that, despite being solid and impressive hardware, doesn't have the infrastructure in place to back up its launch." |

With T Mobile I am pulling just shy of 1 Mbps (usually .93). I have NEVER had a dropped call and have 3G almost always in Wake County unless I am indoors.
T Mobile came in 2nd in Consumer Reports latest data. Really do not understand why people have a negative perception of T Mobile... especially when it is nearly 1/2 the costs of Verizon or AT&T (who came in last of CR data). 1/14/2010 10:44:40 AM |

unlimited everything Verizon- 89.99+29.99=119.98 Tmobile- 69.99+30=99.99
so you save $20/month with tmobile for unlimited everything on a smartphone. Big whoop. Tmobile wins by a ways if you have maxed out family plan (5). Family plans would be $30 savings on 2 lines and $10 for each line after.

pooljobs All American 3481 Posts user info edit post |
the even more plus plans are no contract plans, they don't have discounted phones on those plans. (unless your contract was a few months from ending, they give you the option to switch) The advantage to that is you get lower rates on the plans and instead of discounting a phone the basically allow you to finance it and pay monthly installments if you want. those rates are so low because they don't have discounted phones.
those are the rates i am paying (actually $10 less because i complained so much about the nexus shitstorm) 1/14/2010 9:38:54 PM |
pttyndal WINGS!!!!! 35217 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, those prices are accurate. TM is the Even More plan and CPE is Even More Plus. The prices with data are a little misleading since those aren't for smartphones and tmobile charges $30 on top of their Even More text/talk package.

Quote : | "Google lowers Nexus One upgrade price to $279, issues $100 refund to early upgraders
Good news, earthlings! Apparently Google's taken all the complaints about Nexus One upgrade pricing to heart, because it's giving $100 rebates to current T-Mobile subscribers who paid $379 for the HTC-built handset -- and it says it'll be widening the net and offering upgrades to even more current T-Mo subs, although we still don't know how that's determined. That means the new Nexus One pricing tiers break down like this: $529 unlocked, $279 upgrade for (some) current T-Mo subs, and $179 on a new 2-year contract. Handshakes all around. Now, let's fix up family plan activations and that crazy double ETF, shall we?" |

The verizon plans currently on their website won't be accurate on monday. look at the damn image I posted. Verizon will be 89.99 for unlimited talk and text + 29.99 for data so 119.98. The Even More plan is 69.99 for unlimited talk and text + 30 for data = 99.99. The 79.99 unlimited everything isn't for smartphones. If do the Even More Plus, it's 79.99/month but then you're paying more upfront or paying extra for the first 19 months to pay off the phone. IE to get the Bold 9700 and not pay 449 up front, you'd end up paying $102/month for the first 19 months.

you obviously have reading comprehension problems. It's 99.99 for the Even More plan (subsidized price, 2 year contract). Try going online and getting a cliq, mytouch, or blackberry. Yes it's only 79.99 for the Even More PLUS plan (non-subsidized, no contract) but either you pay retail for the phone up front or you tack on extra money each month to have it financed with the 19 month payment plan.

I chose the regular even more plan for the cost comparison since Verizon doesn't offer an Even More Plus Equivalent. The $79 plan I mentioned was for the TM column which is the Even More plans. That number is for unlimited talk, text, data on a regular phone. Tmobile charges $30 for data (instead of $10) on smartphones put on even more plans. You are correct that anyone with sense would go with a Even More Plus though with no contract and would save a few hundred over the course of the comparable 2 yr contract.

If you're in the major raleigh, charlotte, or greensboro area, I don't see anything wrong with Tmobile. For a new curve (8530 v 8520) you'd save about $30/month (with up front phone cost factored in) on Tmobile Even More Plus plan over a Verizon unlimited plan. So that's about $730 over 2 years. I go between here and Wilmington a lot and the verizon coverage outweighs the cost/no contract advantage of Tmobile.
Tmobile Curve 8520- 279.99 24 months service- (79.99*24)= 1919.76 Average cost/month- 91.66
Verizon Curve 8530- 49.99 24 months service- (119.98*24)= 2879.52 Average cost/month- 122.06

We'll read between the lines and guess that the phones will be "postponed" if China plays nice, or "never gonna happen" if it doesn't.
