The Mets are still playing outstanding baseball so the Braves just have to keep winning each series. That damn White Sox series allowed the Mets to close up the gap on the Braves. Braves need Hanson to get back to form as they cannot have him going out every 5th day and giving up 6+ runs in 5 innings (plus my fantasy team can't have it either).
Gotta love the Braves bench though. Guys like Hinske, Infante, and Conrad have just been unbelievable. Got to give Wren and Cox a lot of credit for the way they put together the team this year.
Also I personally have to eat crow after bashing Pendleton early in the season. If it was his fault for the hitting woes, then he deserves credit when the team is hitting well and getting on base. 6/29/2010 10:05:15 AM |

with talks of the Cliff Lee trade being inevitable it seems a lot of analysts have the Twins and Mets as great chances to make the move. I haven't been paying too much attention to the money situation for the Braves but is this something they could potentially have a shot at or are we all spent? I'd hate to see him go to the Mets and have to face Lee and Halladay all fall 6/29/2010 1:01:57 PM |
DalCowboys All American 1945 Posts user info edit post |
No reason at all for us to go after Lee, WAY too much money for quite possibly a 1/2 year loan. Plus the Braves don't need anymore arms (probably the deepest pitching staff in the majors), if they get anything they will get a bat in CF or LF. 6/29/2010 1:09:40 PM |

So now that Utley is on the DL, I guess it is likely he will not play in the All-Star game? If he doesn't then Prado would be the starter, which I think he should be anyway b/c they have similar numbers except Prado is batting .331 vs Utley .277. But in baseball your name gets you into the all-star game rather than actual stats. 6/29/2010 4:10:55 PM |

Prado will be on the All Star team. He is leading the league in hits and BA and is the main reason (along with Glaus) that the Braves offense turned around after that dreadful April.
Whether or not he'll start will be up to Charlie Manuel I assume (which should bode well for Prado seeing that Manuel knows how well he is playing). 6/29/2010 5:48:32 PM |

Lowe up to his old tricks tonight. 4 good innings followed by disaster in the 5th and 6th. Also I like how the Braves made some AAA pitcher look like Strasburg for the Nats. Oh well at least the Mets lost. 6/29/2010 11:36:04 PM |

i dont know about trading for Dejesus. yeah his batting average is better than some of our guys...but it seems we already have about 20 outfielders in that mold already...not exceptionally fast, not exceptionally powerful
^yeah, last night was bad. I'd see Prado get a hit or get walked and move up to the edge of my seat only to see Cabrera step into the batters box and bring the instant dissapointment with him.

KK taking to move to the bullpen pretty well.
Quote : | "In order to make room for Jurrjens in the rotation, Kenshin Kawakami was switched to the bullpen. Kawakami understands the reasoning behind the move.
"Looking at my stats, I'm not surprised," Kawakami said. "For me to say I'm disappointed a little bit, I wouldn't be the right person. In the bullpen there's also a job, too. A very important job. As a member of this team, I just need to do my best and contribute as much in a different role now " |

It will definitely be a boost for the bullpen, because even though KK has only one win he still has a half-way respectable ERA. He is still a decent pitcher and can only help us coming out of the bullpen for long relief. 6/30/2010 2:41:17 PM |

Jurrjens looked like his 2009 form last night. I also heard the Braves might try and lure Matt Kemp away from the Dodgers. We would probably have to give up a decent amount to get him, but he's a much better option than any of the other players the Braves have been considering. As much as I like mcLouth he's been terrible this year and I also don't trust an outfield consisting of diaz, hinske, and cabrera if we're trying to win in the playoffs. If we can get Kemp and still keep most of our top level prospects, then hell yeah get that deal done 7/1/2010 8:03:25 AM |

I don't think we should be giving Yunel up, I mean who is going to play SS for us if we let him go? (Infante will not get the job done) I like the idea of getting rid of McClouth and a prospect.
^ Why would the Dodgers be selling? They are 3gb in the West. I think they will be buying some pitching before the trade deadline, not giving up their #1 offensive guy.7/1/2010 8:28:22 AM |
rflong All American 11472 Posts user info edit post |
Dodgers are not going to be trading Matt Kemp or Andre Ethier. Two young guys still relatively cheap on a big market team that is in the playoff chase = not going anywhere.
I'd like to see the Braves add a power bat in RF. McLouth is worthless, Cabrera is nearly worthless, but I hope they keep Hinske. Dude has playoff experience and comes through in clutch situations. I'd actually be surprised if the Braves made any moves to be honest with you. I think the team they have is strong enough to win it all as long as Heyward gets healthy and Chipper/McCann produce.
Quote : | "He's on the DL, definitely out for the All Star game." |
I know he is on the DL, but he is scheduled to come off it right before the break and could play if voted in and the thumb feels okay. Heyward said he would not play in the All Star game if he is not playing for the Braves and he also does not want to re-injure it in the All Star game.

^ oops, I obviously meant LF.
Also I don't understand the hate on Escobar. Yeah he is not having a great season, but I'd hate to trade him unless we are getting some other SS that is going to be much better. There are not that many great SS in baseball anymore. I just wish the Braves had never included Andrus in that Tex trade. So stupid.
Infante could fill in well for Escobar (as he did earlier in the season), but Infante is so valuable as a super utility guy that it is nice having him on the bench if when Glaus, Chipper, Prado, and any of the OFs need days off. 7/1/2010 9:48:39 AM |

The Yunel rumors were swirling a few weeks ago, he's having a terrible season offensively, below-average in the field and generally has a shitty attitude. Whatever we would lose defensively, Infante can't be any worse at the plate than Yunel. Despite all the negatives, he'll probably rebound next season and has gotta be our most attractive tradeable commodity.
