Why should we care? At this point this game means absolutely nothing to our season other than a chance to get players hurt. This really does setup as a trap game because next week is the biggest determiner of our season to be honest. We win that game we stay in the hunt for the division championship. We lose that game we drop to the 4th or so ACC bowl game and whether or not we beat ECU doesnt mean shit either way.

The only reason I care if we win is because I dont feel like hearing a bunch of EZU fans talking about how great their football program is when we all know differently. Easier to just blow em out and shut em up with a quickness.

the academics aren't all that different. State has engineering. ECU has business, nursing and med school. Its apples and oranges. ECU is in a low population area, so they accept freshmen with lower standards to bring in money. But once you get into your major its as good as you make it. And thats true at any school. My girlfriend just got her MBA at Duke and agrees.

It's a meaningful game because they are our 2nd biggest in state rival if football. Yes, it is a rivalry game. I've missed less than 5 total home games in the last 25 years, and the atmosphere for the ECU only lags behind the Carolina game. It absolutely sucks losing to them.

My point was for this season this game doesn't matter.. this is of course working off the assumption that we dont end the season on 6 straight losses. If this happens then well we fail anyways. I dont believe a win or loss here makes any difference for this season other than bragging rights. Sure overall winning games like this helps in local recruiting but I think this year it simply comes down to bragging rights for a year. That being said I hope we win by 20+

ecu is the little guy in the grand scheme of things.. they won't be able to outrecruit UNC or state anytime soon (even Wake forest and Duke get better talent) They have less $ for facilities & won't draw in "brand name" coaches... this won't change as long as they are in a non bcs conference. state and unc SHOULD beat ecu year in and year out. so can anybody tell me why state only has a 16-10 lead in the overall series against a far more inferior opponent?

Lets face it.. we aren't exactly a powerhouse in football either. We have a good year here and there but overall we are pretty mediocre. Despite the fact ECU isnt in a BCS conference they have had some pretty significant wins over the years and fielded some decent teams so that is not a surprising stat to me.

here's a hypothetical situation. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

NC State finishes the season 9-3 overall, 6-2 in conference
Miami, from the Coastal Division, finishes 9-3 overall, 6-2 in conference

Since the teams never met during the season, there is no tiebreaker to settle the ranking.
If NC State had beaten ECU during the season, their overall record would have been 10-2.
Miami had a tougher strength of schedule, playing 3 out-of-conference BCS opponents (Ohio St., Pitt, USF).
NC State played 1 out-of-conference BCS opponent (Cincy) and 2 Conference-USA teams (UCF, ECU) and LOST to one of them.

Therefore, Miami gets selected to the ACC #3 spot and goes to the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando, FL and gets to play Notre Dame.

Meanwhile, NC State gets selected to the ACC #4 spot and goes to the Sun Bowl in El Paso, TX and has to play a Pac-10 team, let's say Oregon State.

Not necessarily. iirc, as long as a team is within one conference win, the bowls can select whichever team they want. And since both would have the same conference record, a bowl could choose State over Miami. The ECU game is pretty much negligible. Highly doubt the bowl committees will look at the overall record and be "ooh, they beat ECU, lets pick them"

It's something the schools did to try and encourage the rivalry b/t the two teams.
