New smartwatch on the block, Olio. Founded and run by ex software and hardware engineers from Apple, Pixar, NASA, HP, Kindle, etc.

https://www.oliodevices.com

All models are $250 off.

Looks nice, but is a bit big at 47 mm, but I guess that's expected for readability of the notifications.

There's more than a few Breitling Aerospace available on ebay and other sites that are used.

I have a Citizen pilot watch that I wear all the time that I'd like to replace. The Specifics on the watch are here:

http://www.chrono24.com/en/breitling/ref-f56062.htm

My question I guess is what do you think of this watch? Even the newer models don't look that much differently and if I can find one for 700ish isn't that a great deal on a little older, but perfectly useful Breitling?

Breitlings will last you a lifetime. Having said that, that particular model looks quite plain and boring, to me. As for price, I will let the experts reply.

In general, quartz watches don't hold their values as well as automatic. The aerospace seems to be the cheapest Breitling you can get. I would hold out for something a little bit prettier, for example an older Breitling Chronomat.

Yeah, I like the extra functionality of the aerospace and I could not find anything with a GMT or 2nd timezone function for less than 2,000.

Ended up getting this one:
Breitling Colt GMT+ Steel

http://www.chrono24.com/en/breitling/colt--gmt-steel--id2659074.htm?manufacturerIds=32&models=379&picnum=0&tab=pics&urlSubpath=%2Fbreitling%2Fcolt-gmt--gmt--mod379.htm

It's certified but used... I like the GMT functionality and the clean look of the watch bezel vs. having things that stick out. Plus it is automatic which I appreciate hearing quartz would not hold its value as well..

Not much time left! If I had the disposable income now, I would definitely get it!

The founders and curators of Watchismo (http://www.watchismo.com) - 2 brothers - designed their own watch last year, the Xeric Xeriscope. It was funded to 1,100% on Kickstarter!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/watchismo/xeriscope-the-orbiting-mechanical-automatic-watch/description

Uniquely gorgeous... you gotta watch the video of the movement! It cost $350 on Kickstarter, and now it can be bought on Watchismo for $500.

Well, now they have come out with their 2nd model, the Xeric Halograph, and the Kickstarter campaign has just 5 days left, and has already been funded to 1,400% of the goal!!!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/watchismo/the-halograph-an-unusual-mechanical-automatic-watc

Again, $350 now, or $500 after the campaign. Or, there is also a quartz chrono version for $190.

Again a very unique dial with a very creative way of telling time, see the video in link above. Here are just 2 of the color combinations:

JUST 5 DAYS LEFT!!!!

Spirit of St. Louis chronograph

Really thinking I need to get this. Already have a nice dress watch but love the face and numerals on this thing, and how it looks with the brown strap.

Where is that brand from?

OK what the hell this is ridiculous, a watch and an apple watch on one strap for one wrist:

http://www.engadget.com/2015/08/04/apple-watch-watch/

The second one costs $9,300.

just inherited a grandfather clock - does that have any place in this thread?

it's a pearl and i think built in the 1984 range - it's been in storage for the past ~15 years so having someone come service it and replace a broken cable

Makes sense. Yeah come to think of it my Citizen says it on the face. I'm still wearing the one I got years ago at Costco for $199. Perpetual calendar, sapphire screen, and atomic radio syncing and world timezone bezel. Awesome value for a Citizen:

^^^^I really like that one though. The colors all fit well together with the leather band.

Yup similar watches on Amazon (World AT+Perpetual+Sapphire) are all $400-500. That's why it was such a sweet deal at $199 but yeah to your point a perpetual calendar on a Citizen is rare under $400 unless it's a sale or flash deal or something.

thanks for the link! Scrolling through and I just saw my (one and only) watch on there Not surprised after all the other stuff I had seen on the site up until that point. Some are a little too contemporary for me but lots of stuff rooted in classic modern design on there. I ma y have to pick up a couple.

it is a Braun. I love it. Not expensive but 100% my design taste. I've actually had multiple people ask about it over the past year or so.

And I can't remember if that is one of the ones you linked to me before or not, but I will check it out. I want to just have 3-4 budget watches that I can swap out now and then.

Some Patek Philippe owners do indeed know how to tie bowlines but the majority of potential customers are close-but-no-cuban to these aspirations, they wish they had enough to start a family legacy and get their name on the backs of orchestra programs because that would mean that they go to orchestras, that they are sophisticated, they have made it. Not Hollywood and dotcom made it, which was what they dreamed about twenty years ago, but the kind of made it where last names matter and "summer" is a verb. "

Thanks...I really like it

It's hard getting used to an automatic though. Had my eco-drive daily wearer for about 12 years with no winding , battery, maintenance, etc

The Le Locle is too fancy for a daily wearer...even to work sometimes (don't always dress in slacks. Sometimes just a polo and khakis)

It's got a 48 hour power reserve (allegedly) but mine is stopping after 36 hrs or so of not wearing it. Guess that means it's not fully wound. Don't really want to get a watch winder. I don't really mind resetting it when I pick it back up...it's just not as "convenient" as I'm used to. Love the looks of it though!

That's a perfect watch with polos and khakis. When you wear polos and khakis, it is great to bring it up a notch with the accessories: nice belt, nice shoes (even dress oxfords), nice watch, etc.

After how many hours of continuous use are you putting it down when it runs for only 36 hours? After a full day of work it should be fully wound. Well actually, if what you are doing all day is sitting on a computer then it won't wind it fully.

I would suggest that after a day of work you take it off and manually sway it to wind it, for about 15-20 minutes. Or put it in pants pocket and go for a walk for that long. Then put it down and time it.

Since you have to reset it means you are not using it daily, right? Even if you used it every other day, 48 hours should more than suffice. I don't like having to set my automatics (I have 4 and no winder) as well, but it is not a bog deal. However, I don't bother with the date as that would get tedious then.

P.S. Can it be wound using the crown? Many automatics can be, especially premium/Swiss ones. You will have to turn the crown when in the pushed/in position. See if that works. You will feel like you are turning gears and will feel/hear it.

Nice watch and I agree that it's not too fancy for daily wear. It reminds me of the Rotary that Sherlock wears. Yours is way nicer, obviously

I've been eyeing the Type B of this one for a while. Seems to be a good price for the quality in the style (Hamilton/Archimede's are wayy closer to $1,000) but I'm fairly new to the watch game. Anybody got other recommendations for a comparable pilot watch?

When you say pilot watch you just mean that kind of display, and not any pilot functions, right?

Check BobbyDigital's post about 1/3 of the way down from top on this page. It is a Citizen Eco-Drive. Powered by light, can store energy for 6-9 months even if kept in complete darkness after it has been fully charged. Never needs a battery. I have linked it below.

Here are some nice ones:

Seiko makes automatic ones:

Seiko, Japanese automatic, $66
http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNK805-Automatic-Stainless-Canvas/dp/B000LTAY1U

Seiko, Japanese automatic, $104 (not a pilot watch I suppose)
http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNZG09K1-Analog-Automatic-Canvas/dp/B005NYLO08

Hamilton, Swiss quartz, $359
http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-H64611535-Khaki-Pilot-Black/dp/B0043RWFO0

Hamilton, Swiss automatic, $516
http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-H64425535-Khaki-Night-Pilot/dp/B0054ZVCLC

Hamilton, Swiss automatic, $377 (not a pilot watch but similar in a way)
http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-H70555533-Khaki-Field-Black/dp/B000EQ0BM2

Laco, Swiss quartz movement, $234
http://www.amazon.com/Laco-1925-861806-Classic-Stainless/dp/B00BGMLN3E

Laco, Japanese automatic movement, $324
http://www.amazon.com/Laco-Miyota-Automatic-Pilot-861690/dp/B005ECKPL8

Info on Laco brand (German brand, but I have never heard of it)
http://www.amazon.com/Laco-1925/b/ref=bt_sl_b_wa_web_7480984011?ie=UTF8&node=7480984011

Citizen, Eco-Drive (light-powered), $146
http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-AW1361-10H-Sport-Stainless-Leather/dp/B00KCF7JL6

Torgoen, Swiss quartz, $263
http://www.amazon.com/Torgoen-Swiss-T25102-Stainless-Steel-Aviation/dp/B003TU83TS

Torgoen, Swiss quartz, $245
http://www.amazon.com/Torgoen-Swiss-T34103-Pilot-Watch/dp/B00FYZJ54I

Many of them come in other colors too.

P.S. The one you posted has a Japanese automatic movement (Miyota by Citizen), but the brand is unknown. If you are going to buy a watch, it is always best to go with a well-known brand.

yeah, that kind of display is what I'm after. I guess it's a flieger? I really like the Hamilton/Laco in your post as they're almost identical to the one I'm looking at. They're just a little more than I'd like to spend on this style of watch at the moment.

True it's a bit of an unknown brand but I've found a decent number of positive reviews for the brand since I've been researching.

< $300, since I'll probably upgrade the strap too. I have no real preference on quartz/automatic. I really only like that exact design, not just pilot watches in general. That's the only reason I'm considering this one, especially after reading some reviews of it. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking any in that price range.

This is the ideal watch in that style but no way I'm spending that much. https://www.stowa.de/lshop,showrub,142743825217680,en,1427443378-16372,flieger,index,,,.htm

I really like that Orient with the navy face. What's the brand reputation?

My gf keeps telling me i need a watch. i haven't worn one consistently in probably 8 years. Honestly something as simple as a Timex Weekender is all the design I really want.

I also like the look of these, but i've never heard of the brand.

This was my first watch purchase a few months ago and I've been pleased with it. I don't care for the bracelet so I wear it with a nato strap most of the time. You can find it around $100 on amazon sometimes

http://www.amazon.com/Orient-Mens-CEM65002D-Automatic-Watch/dp/B001EWEQ3K/ref=pd_sim_241_5?ie=UTF8&dpID=41HeeYpoNUL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR98%2C160_&refRID=16TG2G9315P3AJPATP5Z

Digging around on the watches sub on reddit has helped me figure out what I like and don't like. They have some pretty good guides and FAQ worth reading if you can ignore the pictures of the same 5 watches being posted over and over in front of their steering wheels
