Finally got around to watching it. The shaky cam wasn't as bad as I had imagined it would be, and I'm the kind of person that gets easily annoyed by that kind of thing. I guess all the complaints set an expectation of a high annoyance level so it didn't seem as bad as I had imagined.

Yeah, I've got to agree with this.

And I kept imagining this guy

saying F'n A, Cotton. F'n A.

My problem with Haymitch was that I always kind of envisioned him as a veteran with PTSD sort of deal. The Hunger Games fucked him up and watching children die year after year trying to train them only made it worse. Woody Harrelson didn't play it like that at all, it was basically his character from Zombieland.

Funny you should say that. When he first made his appearance and went right for the food I found myself wondering if he'd get pissed that there were no twinkies.

Finally caught it this past weekend. Fairly impressed. And I was one of those people criticizing it as a Battle Royale knock off when I first heard the premise.

The Hunger Games has aged well in my mind after a few months. Knowing the characters as opposed to relying on the poor character development from the movie definitely improved things, and I enjoyed the second viewing much more.

That being said, as per the comment above:
-Watch 'The Hunger Games' if you are interested in an overarching story or a fight-against-the-1% plot.
-Watch 'Battle Royale' if you want action and complicated social scenarios.

That being said, I still think I prefer the Battle Royale lighthouse scene over the entire Hunger Games movie.

I am very disappointed in the movie and glad I didn't pay money to see it in theaters.

I thought Woody did a pretty good job as Haymitch. I think he could have been a little more of a drunk and an asshole...but I definitely didn't see him as the guy posted above. You have to remember that he won the Hunger Games at some point...so he was fairly athletic in the past.

after going back and rereading the second and third book, i felt like Haymitch's character evolves a lot more as you get further along in the series. i think katniss also starts to understand Haymitch more.

The books however, are much better.

I like Woody as Haymitch, but his acting.... seems forced or something at times.

Before I saw the movie I thought Lawrence was a perfect katniss (pretty and athletic), but after watching it ... blah she is a terrible actress

Soooo I think I'm satisfied with the choice for Finnick, but who should play Annie?

I saw Annie as someone that looks like Alison Brie (wild eyed and pretty ) with an athletic build (since her skill was swimming)

or maybe Emma Roberts

... but they have to be able to pull off crazy

Emma Roberts would be a good choice. i pictured Annie as a thin tall blonde haired girl.

i think i pictured everyone that way though

well if you go by the book, Annie is dark haired and green eyed with some mental issues.... but at this point I just want someone who can bring some acting skills to the movie (so I am leaning toward Brie only because I would be wary of an actress that I amm not familiar with)

What was the problem with Rue? I thought the book described her as dark skinned. I didn't picture her as being black when I read the book, but I liked the actress in that role. She was one of my favorite characters in the movie.

Is everyone going to be black in this next movie? If so I'm not watching.

i was being sarcastic about the rue thing... there were a bunch of closet racists that flipped their shit when a black girl was cast as the part (even though the book very clearly described her as dark skinned)

Did the racists at least appreciate the part where district 11 started the riot?

That's what I had in my head when I was reading through. Maybe its because I had also recently watched Galaxy Quest.

This is being called a teaser trailer; I'm sure there will be arena scenes in future trailers.

Personally, I'm perfectly content with this trailer as it stands and could go without seeing any more. I'm hyped with plenty left to be seen.

i really like the trailer. doesn't give too much away

i think they'll save the arena for the movie - should be a good one - i think i remember hearing that they filmed that in Hawaii.

Just rewatched The Hunger Games on Netflix. It was a lot better than I remember when I saw it in the theater.
On the big screen it was so hard to follow everything during a lot of the quick cuts and fast camera work. On the small screen there was much less to keep track of visually.

^^ i read somewhere earlier today that he had 7 days of shooting left for part 2 of mocking jay. That's probably a few scenes. From what I read, they didn't think it was going to cause too much of an issue, but that one specific scene would have to be re-written with another character doing something that he would have been doing.
