Justin, are you a Panthers fan? Jake was not a great QB but he was pretty good, and most Panther fans I know seem to understand that he was pretty much the right guy for us for most of his career.

Did we need to give him that crazy deal in his last years? Nope, huge mistake, obviously.

But I love that goofy bastard because we did a lot of good shit during his time here. The brink of a Super Bowl, for which he was fantastic, another NFC Championship game, 12-4 season. He wasnt a top 10 QB in this league, but he was top 20 IMO.

I'm kind of a panthers fan. I didn't like jake during the super bowl run.

He was just an average qb. The panthers would have been better off if they had a decent qb who wasn't prone to making boneheaded decisions. That argument that he was the right guy for the team is dumb. The right guy would have been a better qb.

I don't have some sort of vendetta against him, but I find it ridiculous that fans just rush to say he is the best panthers qb ever. Hell, cam is already 10 times the qb jake ever was.

And yes in his pro bowl year there were probably 15 qbs in the afc better than jake. He was just the beneficiary of playing in the nfc, where there were no good quarterbacks at all (other than hasselbeck).

I just think it's hilarious that so many of you deify jake and then shit on alex smith. They ain't that damn different. Bad qbs on teams with good defenses and running games. Alex smith > joe montana & steve young

Alex Smith = Jake Delhomme is a pretty valid comparison. They were both middle of the pack QB's in their best season.


Delhomme actually had a chance to be good that year he blew out his elbow. He started off great for 1.5 games. He was never any good afterwards though.


I didn't know anyone deified him though. Most people i know don't. I was a pretty big hater for sure.

We still need help in the redzone, especially sans Shockey. Cam can bulldoze in from the 5 and closer, but outside of that they settled for a lot of field goals last year. Plax can win a jump ball vs anyone in the league. I don't think it really 'stunts' the growth of our young guys since Plax is a specialist and will only come in near the goal line or in 3 and 4 WR sets. Only real negative I see is you probably have to part with one of Edwards or Pilares, probably Edwards.
