Really like our DL especially if Street is all that he is supposed to be.
Norman, Teal, McGill, Street can be as good as any in the ACC.
The LBs still look awful. Secondary should be decent with Tocho, Burris, non-injured Byrd (poor guy), and Jones. 7/19/2014 9:50:18 PM |

^ ^ seems pretty reasonable for State. And man...can't believe UNC is #4 in the division. Granted, it's anybody's to win. But seems like there's been a lot of talk from media about this bein the year UNC actually lives up to expectations. Then again, 6 of 7 teams (Pitt?!?!) got 1st place votes so it's all pretty close

Quote : | "“I thought it was a great way to simulate just the stress of the game day atmosphere for a young football team,” said Doeren. “Seventy-one percent of our team is freshman or sophomores so we're just trying to find ways to help those guys be ready for game day mentally.”" |
I wonder what that number is if you exclude redshirts...7/23/2014 11:57:55 AM |

71% being Freshman and Sophomores is a good thing long-term. Those guys getting game reps early and often will lead to them having better years down the line. It will also allow us to build a program where we can actually afford to RS guys and only play the guys who are so good that they earn a spot on the field instead of being forced to play before they're physically/mentally ready. Like look at McClendon, going to be our future at QB behind Brissett, going to have to play this year instead of RS'ing like we'd prefer to.
Last year we played quite a few Freshmen, some of those guys looked pretty solid for Freshmen. Just going to get better as they learn the system and grow. It was much the same idea that TOB had here and achieved at BC. It's just that TOB really only had a few instances of that here and then left the cupboards pretty bare for Doeren. 7/23/2014 12:41:18 PM |

Wolfpack Football to Play Home and Home Series with West Virginia
Quote : | "In 2018, the Mountaineers will travel to Carter-Finley Stadium, while the Wolfpack will travel to Morgantown for a 2019 matchup.
NC State has faced West Virginia 10 times in program history, with the series tied at 5-5. The last meeting was in the 2010 Champs Sports Bowl, when quarterback Russell Wilson led the Wolfpack to a 23-7 win over the No. 22 Mountaineers. The squads also met in the 1972 Peach Bowl, which NC State won 49-13, and the 1975 Peach Bowl - a 13-10 WVU win.
The teams have not played on either's home field since 1979, when the Wolfpack enjoyed a 38-13 victory in Morgantown. NC State has won the last three meetings and four of the last five.
The series with the Mountaineers is the second major series added by the Wolfpack in recent weeks. NC State recently announced a home-and-home series with Mississippi State of the SEC for 2020 and 2021. " |

The two behind Brissett are a former walk on and true Freshman McLendon. The backup (which I assume McLendon will be in the running for regardless) will see extensive reps against the 4 OOC opponents. Very, very risky to try and Redshirt McLendon (because he may even win the #2) because if anything happens to Brissett you just wasted a lot of reps and a lot of game action he could have seen against the OOC teams because he would then have to burn his redshirt so the team can carry two QB's.

Why is our backup QB going to see extensive reps vs. our OOC opponents? We aren't going to be up 60 at half in those games and our #1s needs all the reps they can get. This isn't rec soccer for 8 year olds. 7/24/2014 12:12:32 AM |

Coach Doeren said that if McClendon wins the #2 job in the fall then he will receive game reps to be in a situation where he can play if Brissett goes down.7/24/2014 8:18:18 AM |

^Exactly.
I didn't pull my claims out of thin air. Coach Doeren literally said that if McClendon wins the #2 job, that he will indeed play in the first four games. From everything I've read from people who have covered some of the 7-on-7 drills, it sounds like McClendon is very likely to win the #2 job.
Doeren is coming off one of the worst, if not THE worst, football season we've ever had. Large part of that was due to the QB rotation and injuries. You know he's feeling the pressure to put together a better season, so he's going to play his best players regardless of redshirts. If Leatham wins the #2 job, then that's awesome and good for him, would love to redshirt McClendon. Just hard to imagine a former walk-on beating out a 4* QB that has drawn rave reviews so far. 7/24/2014 8:31:50 AM |

I remember TOB did this with Glennon during RW's last year. The first few games of the season, Glennon would get a couple of series.
I didn't like it back then, but it makes sense. I'm just worried that McClendon is going to get killed back there if he wins the job. He's going to be a really good QB and already has some serious skills, but he's just so skinny right now.

^^^I would hope McLendon wouldn't have to play enough time to worry about him getting injured badly. Unless of course you mean him having to start because Brissett gets hurt. If all McLendon is doing is playing mop up time or whatever, injuries probably aren't a big concern 7/24/2014 4:23:23 PM |

We looked like a bunch of broke dicked dogs out there for a majority of the season. I've learned that we are a very forgiving fanbase.
And by forgiving, I mean we immediately forget the past and start believing in greatness again once the season is over. Especially on QBs, be they proven or not.
Every QB we've had has been a Heismann contender in our minds at this point. In my lifetime, our great QBs have been:
-Rivers -Wilson
Serviceable QBs (good, but not amazing): -Glennon -Kramer -Jordan -Montgomery -Bender -Harvey -Barnett
Bad QBs -Laureano -Stone -Davis -Evans -Beck -Thomas -Mitchell -anyone I forgot
NR: Olin Hannum
I'm holding out to make sure Brissett is serviceable first. I think he'll fall somewhere around the middle for now. 7/25/2014 9:03:08 AM |

Geoff Bender was pretty solid.
I think you can put Glennon in that top list. He threw 60 fucking touchdowns in two seasons and had like 500 yards and 5 (or 6?) tds in one game against UNC. He unfortunately played on some shit-tastic teams...but if he had another year or two...his stats would put him up there as one of our best.
He's not on the Rivers/Wilson level, but I think he's closer to them than the guys on the next level are to him.
